To think coverless duvets seem like a good idea?

Just go in the washing machine when dirty. Use with a sheet and a bedspread. The thought of no longer wrestling with duvet covers and not having them hanging over the banisters and shower door drying is quite enticing. Anyone got one and would you recommend?

I like the posh hotel way of using a massive sheet to envelope the duvet, although wrangling it onto the line would be a challenge.
I use a sheet under the duvet cover so the actual cover only needs changing once a month, the pillowcases and sheets get changed weekly.

I absolutely hate those in hotels. Inevitably the sheet opens up and you're touching the manky duvet that everyone's slept on (and I'm usually relaxed about germs).

While I don't like the 2 minutes it takes to put on a new duvet cover, I can't see the merit of them. I've also yet to see one that doesn't look quite ugly. (I confess I'm a bit of a sucker for a nice White Company duvet cover).

onlythreenow · 26/09/2022 19:46

I live in NZ, where it's common to use a top sheet so the duvet cover doesn't need washing nearly as often. Far, far, easier surely. I also prefer down/feather and wool for my duvet inners. It's really no harder to wash/dry a duvet cover than it is sheets.

onlythreenow · 26/09/2022 19:47

Also, I don't find it at all difficult to put on a duvet cover, and certainly no 'wrestling' is involved.

lljkk · 26/09/2022 19:50

I prefer blankets over duvets & duvets over comforters.

red4321 · 26/09/2022 19:54

I see a top sheet as a backwards step towards the old sheet and eiderdown. Partly as I dislike the sheet at the bottom being tucked in so it gets tangled up.

Bestcatmum · 26/09/2022 19:56

They are the best thing ever. I struggle with duvet covers because of arthritis and I can just shove these in the machine. I have the winter weight ones in every room.

ShaneTwane · 26/09/2022 19:57

Love how people have to announce how they have no issues putting duvet covers on. Do you want medals? Some of us do struggle.

Mine takes a few hours max to dry, on a standard clothes horse

My king size one dries in an hour over the banisters if I turn it over once.

Its not a personal jibe, it’s just not a struggle for everyone so not an issue everyone needs to solve.

How does it dry so quick? Even just my duvet cover & pillows take a day to dry over the bannister!

I don't know. I have one and it takes ages to dry. And that was in the tumble dryer. It doesn't make much sense to me.

georgarina · 26/09/2022 20:09

I have these because with kids having accidents etc you need to be able to wash the duvet. They are great IME. I hate making beds.

georgarina · 26/09/2022 20:10

Oh, and they're lighter than typical duvets, and don't take long at all to dry.

Bumblefuzz · 26/09/2022 20:11

They're fab, been using them for years. I washed my king-size at about 2pm yesterday and put it on the line. Despite being a cold day, was easily dry by bedtime. In cold/wet weather I just hang them up inside and they dry in a few hours. My daughter's double, I sometimes put in the drier for about 20 mins. King size is a bit big though.

No, we don't require medals, but if we don't struggle to put them on why would we need something different? I wash mine very infrequently anyway, so even if I did struggle it would hardly be an issue. Far easier to use a top sheet.

Would they be good for a bedwetter whose duvet needs to be washed fairly often?

DD is a bedwetter. Ideal as whole thing washes and dries quickly and no smell. Even if you change a duvet cover, the urine smell is still in the quilt itself, especially if they cocoon themselves like my DD does. Ordinary duvets take much longer to dry.

pigsDOfly · 26/09/2022 20:17

Can't see the point if you've got to put a sheet underneath and a eiderdown on top.

And don't understand why having that hanging over your banister to dry is preferable to have a duvet cover hanging over your banister.

Also their 'all year round' duvet is only 10.5 tog rating. Far too low for me.

It takes a few minutes to put a duvet cover on.

Not something I'd buy.

Bookaholic73 · 26/09/2022 20:19

I love mine. I dry mine within an hour in the tumble dryer.

rainingcats · 26/09/2022 20:21

I have one for my ds. He still has the very occasional bed wetting accident and its much easier and quicker to wash and dry a coverless duvet then a normal duvet.

TowerRavenSeven · 26/09/2022 20:24

All our beds are: fitted bottom sheet/top sheet/blanket/comforter that doubles as w bedspread. To wash, take off bottom/top sheets & pillowcases. Wash then dry 30 minutes. Simple!

Knittingnanny2 · 26/09/2022 20:28

I’ve got a double 4.5 tog one from m and s which we use September to December and then February to May. It’s brilliant and dries in a couple of hours. I really struggle changing duvet covers due to arthritis.
I’ve also “ made” a summer version by machining a duvet cover to a one tog quilt. An alternative would be to dye it?
so I only struggle changing a duvet cover over the few coldest winter months when we have a 10 tog.
I don’t think a 10 tog would fit in my machine.

No one has told you you need something different. Op literally asked if anyone has one and would they recommend that brand. No where in the opening post has she said everyone needs to throw out their duvet covers and get coverless ones.

Thank you. I think I will get one but ds doesn’t like certain textures and worried that he won’t like the feeling of it …

Bytrgrewd · 26/09/2022 21:30

i suppose I could put a cover on it if he doesn’t like it 🤣

MacaroniBaloney · 26/09/2022 21:48

I gave one a try and loved it so much Ive replaced all the duvets in the house. The night owl ones are super soft and feel really light. The cotton waffle ones are not as soft imo.

I'd recommend them to anyone who struggles to put on a duvet or who likes a smooth duvet cover but hates ironing them!
