I know I’m not being unreasonable at all. Made me love him even more. What a loss.

I loved reading it this afternoon. So excited for the book. Don't think I can wait for Christmas

weebarra · 24/09/2022 20:24

So looking forward to listening to these!

torthecatlady · 24/09/2022 20:27

Thanks! I've just reserved it at the library, 3rd in the queue but I'll wait!

Crucible · 24/09/2022 20:35

It's him as Colonel Brandon. That's what got me, particularly the scene where he first sees Marianne playing piano. Heartbreaking performance. I loved him before, adored him after that.

Nsws2015 · 24/09/2022 20:42

Omg thankyou for this! I have pre ordered myself the book for my birthday! I adored the man!!! I would have listened to him read the dictionary, an encyclopedia...anything! I can't wait for this!

travellingfamily · 24/09/2022 21:02

I have been a fan since Obadiah Slope! Anyone else remember that?

ThinWomansBrain · 24/09/2022 21:12

I loved it, thought it was brilliant, a really enjoyable read.
WIll try and hold out on the book and suggest it as a Christmas present

I think there's more in the Observer tomorrow

Oh I didn't see that when I searched for it on Audible. Looked again and still can't see narrator listed but I'm sure you're right.

Soz everyone!

But wouldn’t it have been great if they could have used technical wizardry to have him read it. You know they could take recordings of him and run it through some programme. 😍

fatgirlslimmer · 24/09/2022 21:36

Oh and thanks for sharing it @Endlesssummer2022 that was a rabbit hole worth going down.

MummyJ12 · 24/09/2022 21:51

Thank you 😊 I’m a huge fan/was a huge fan of him and his “under the radar talent”.

I’m looking forward to reading this in its entirety.

I’m guessing the note on Emma Watson’s dictation wasn’t a compliment…?!!

Bouledeneige · 24/09/2022 22:11

First fell in love with him in Truly, Madly, Deeply. In fact that's my favourite of his performances.

I imagine he met Ruby Wax at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

I was amused by the idea that he was reading the diaries - given they are coming out now and he died in 2016.

Me too!

DeoForty · 24/09/2022 22:32

It's brilliant! I think I first saw him in An Awfully Big Adventure. Went in to the cinema fancying Hugh Grant, came out a woman.

Alwaystired99 · 24/09/2022 22:37

Oh wow. I loved the remarks about Boris Johnson becoming mayor, such foresight.

And he mentions Private Lives! I saw it in the west end and when he entered as Elyot the audience did a collective gasp.

Him and Victoria Wood are still not dead in my world.

Ha ha. Oh yes, me too. I need to watch it again.

EspressoPatronumm · 24/09/2022 22:40

He's truly missed

angelsinstead · 24/09/2022 22:41

I loved reading that, thanks for sharing

Summerhillsquare · 24/09/2022 22:42

Was slightly surprised at the luvvieness and him trying to get his wife a peerage.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 24/09/2022 23:04

Thank you very much OP, very much enjoyed that and will definitely buy the book

Thank you for this! I had no idea.

Can anyone explain this bit:

"and Emma [Watson]’s diction is this side of Albania at times"

He's saying she doesn't enunciate properly to the point she could be speaking Albanian

stephaniestephanie · 24/09/2022 23:11

I loved this today - what a treat. The names! It really served to support my misguided belief that all actors are in one big friendship group together. He really did seem to know everyone.

AgathaMystery · 24/09/2022 23:20

God I love him. I cannot wait for the publication date. I think it will be one to buy on paper rather than kindle in case the use his illustrations.

inalso hugely enjoyed Michael Palin’s diaries. So sweet and witty.

also, ashamed but Piers Morgan’s diaries are excellent. He is an appalling human but brilliant diarist. Who would have thought.

PinkHeadphones · 24/09/2022 23:27

I love that he calls the character Potter, not Harry or Harry Potter - like he actually is Snape.

I saw Private Lives too. Time seemed to stop and he had the audience in the palm of his hand in one particular scene with Lindsay Duncan. Breathtaking and sexy as hell.

Still can't believe, don't want to believe, that he's dead Sad
