Should I tip the pizza delivery person?

JamesBondOO7 · 22/09/2022 20:18

Tomorrow I'm ordering pizza from Dominos
I usually leave to our children but I'm doing this
I will be ordering approx 85 quids worth of food for
6 of us inc 2 toddlers. As we are paying online
and IMO the bill is lager than the usal 50-sh after discounts - I will feel bad not tipping the man/woman

A quid is not right but then I'm thinking why should I as I', pay 2 quid (1-99) in delivery and the employer should be paying a proper wage

It will be easier not to tip as paying online but I don't want the delivery person
giving me faces etc though that would make it easier for me later ie not giving a tip

What do you think but I'm almost a 100% cert I won't

(on the odd occasion we eat out we tip 10% but it does hurt.

Many thanks as per above post cheaper via their auto code. plus 1-99 delivery hence no tip

Use UNIBIG50 or DINEON50 and you'll get 50% off everything (except ice cream) not just pizzas. There's a £40 minimum spend. Latest Deals always have the best Dominos codes available.

Fucking king hell, there are some tight fisted people on this thread.

Tip, don’t tip, I couldn’t give a shit.

But all this ruminating and navel facing over £1?!

What do you imagine the driver will be able to do with your £1?

And then finally OP ends their posts with ‘I work
hard for my money’. As if no one else does.

What a load of shit. Never been more grateful
for my husband and family who tip if and when they want to not because ‘the driver might pull a face’.

What a load of shit.

CakeCrumbs44 · 23/09/2022 15:08

I wouldn't typically pay a delivery person as they're paid for their job already.
If you are to tip them, I would go for £5. £1 on an £85 order will just look silly.

Chouetted · 23/09/2022 15:14

I've never had one stick around long enough to tip, I don't know how you are all managing it. I'd have to somehow chase after them while juggling my pizza.

BarbaraofSeville · 23/09/2022 15:15

But imagine if everyone gave them £1? You only have to observe tipping in action to know that a lot of tipped workers are getting a lot of extra money, especially restaurant workers. A few quid per shift here and there really adds up over time.

I don't know how many deliveries they do per shift, but let's say its 10 per day in a 5 hour shift? That's an extra tenner on top of their wages every shift. If they work full time, that's an extra £50 a week or over £200 pm in tips, that's probably untaxed. Even if it's not that much, it's a hell of a lot more than a lot of people get that never receive tips.

phishy · 23/09/2022 16:25

@BarbaraofSeville Oh I'm all for tipping, I know it adds up. It's just the way OP is acting like Jesus and that the £1 tip will be responsible for multiplying loaves and fishes for this driver, that is making me cringe.

UnfoundedLogic · 23/09/2022 17:02

I'm going to be blunt, not tipping food workers is something you do at your own risk. They do remember and I just don't want to take the chance that my food would be tampered with. But also, workers will let other workers know which accounts don't tip and that's when you get delivery drivers taking their time or fighting over who takes it. So, like I said don't tip at your own risk.

MyHusbandTheIdiot · 23/09/2022 17:06

Trickle down economics in action….!

Have literally never tipped a delivery driver and never had a problem with a takeaway or quality of food.
I didn't know people tipped delivery drivers

This says a lot more about the personalities of food workers than it does about people who choose not to hand out free money for no good reason.

Blrrrd · 24/09/2022 08:07

Sure Dominies should pay a proper wage but that’s not up to the driver. If it wasn’t for them you would have to get your food yourself. At least a few £ is fine but nothing is rude.

also sending your son to get the door because he doesn’t tip is cowardly.

Blrrrd · 24/09/2022 08:08

Its money drivers earn since you are too lazy to get your food yourself

UnfoundedLogic · 24/09/2022 08:10

Yea I'm sure your local drivers who deliver to you regularly have never given your food a little cough or spritz of spit...smh you don't have any clue.

OnTheBrinkOfChange · 24/09/2022 08:18

Geepee71 · 22/09/2022 20:24

I ordered Domino's online recently and was asked not to tip driver with cash and instead to tip online, after delivery.

That's because the driver wouldn't get the whole amount, presumably.

Scarbarough · 24/09/2022 11:14

Great, Domino's should pay a proper wage. Domino's doesn't care if you tip or not, they don't get the money either way. You not tipping hurts the drivers and does nothing to get Domino's to raise their wage. The only effect you not tipping has is to make it harder for the drivers to pay their bills.

Abraxan · 24/09/2022 11:18

jetadore · 22/09/2022 20:19

Yes you should. They earn fuck all.

Whilst I do tip in various situations I really don't like this argument at all.

It isn't the customer's fault that the delivery person, or the wait staff, or any other employee isn't being paid enough. That's down to the employer. It is the employer's responsibility to ensure that employees are paid a decent wage. If that means increasing overall prices then so be it. Customers can then decide if they still want to use the business and can be less guilt tripped into tipping.

Tuckifubuck · 24/09/2022 12:32

Enjoyed reading how all you lazy assholes justify/manage not tipping.

If you can't afford a tip then get your fatass up off the couch and go pick it up.

😂
If you could be arsed to read the thread properly, you'd see it's not about not being able to afford the tip ( that is assuming you are able to comprehend views outside of your own)
Always with the insults, isn't it? Almost like you don't really have an argument.

Cocopogo · 24/09/2022 12:45

No I don’t tip, anyone ever. I think it’s weird and should stop.

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 24/09/2022 12:46

@tuckifubuck Are you American? ( just clocked the use of asshole instead of arsehole) so was just wondering.

As if you had at least attempted to read the thread you'd see that it's completely different in the UK to the US when it comes to tips.

Vikinga · 24/09/2022 12:50

I tip. It doesn't have to be much but it soon adds up. My daughter works in a hotel restaurant and earns a really low wage (she's 16). If everyone tipped a couple of quid, she would get more in tips than her wages.

canttipwonttip · 24/09/2022 12:52

As a server I can say the job can be absolutely horrendous at times. We still make an effort with all our guests to make sure they have a good time. Even a quid left on the table is appreciated. As for supermarket workers shop staff etc let's be honest you don't spend anywhere near as much time with them, the tips are for the service. What's wrong with that really?

And your kid would earn a much higher wage if people like you stopped tipping.

Because tips create low wages and poor working conditions.
