Today reminds me of lock down.

Nothing open, schools off, people stuck at home*.

My street is usually busy but it's been so quiet today. Buses seem to be running a Sunday service too.

(*I know many people are still at work. Just seems like a lot of people are off, especially with the likes of McDonald's and Starbucks being closed!)

Um yeah...what's your point though? It's only for a day

5foot5 · 19/09/2022 13:56

I am surprised busses are running at all!

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 19/09/2022 13:57

I said exactly the same to DH this morning!

Sparklingbrook · 19/09/2022 13:58

Me too. I would have been at work today. And now it’s raining, adding to the gloom.

IglesiasPiggl · 19/09/2022 13:58

Well apart from the massive crowds on the streets, I guess.

AnyFucker · 19/09/2022 13:59

what's your point though

there doesn’t have to be a point. Op is just idly reflecting I assume, a day like today there will be a lot of it

itwasntmetho · 19/09/2022 13:59

Yeah I made sure we were very social Saturday And Sunday because I thought I might be feeling a bit low today if we weren’t.

itsnotdeep · 19/09/2022 13:59

Yes but it's reminded me of the best bits of lockdown - I've had my teens around, chatting, and we've also baked. Later on we'll have dinner together.

It's lovely and sunny here though so that makes the difference.

Windinthepillows · 19/09/2022 13:59

It’s one day. I guess someone will be along to say they have ptsd next.

GoneWithTheWine1 · 19/09/2022 13:59

It's the same on Christmas Day though....?

georgarina · 19/09/2022 13:59

Was just thinking the same!

Walked down the high street this morning - everything closed and shuttered, not many people on the streets.

Quite nice.

Mmm. But you get presents and dinner and it’s a bit of a different vibe. 😂

Nameless3 · 19/09/2022 14:01

It's very quiet here. Very eerie. It's usually a fairly noisy area.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 19/09/2022 14:01

I am old enough that every Sunday and Wednesday afternoon was like this. Mayni say politely, it’s nothing like lockdown.

IroningThrone · 19/09/2022 14:01

Christmas is Christmas and you expect it. No point really, just home alone and kinda thinking.

I've also baked! Friend's birthday tomorrow so have some bits for the buffet.

I’ve felt like this - when we were asked to stay home for bad weather

But not today. Maybe because I wanted to watch the funeral and I don’t mind the quiet

Neverfullycharged · 19/09/2022 14:03

It’s the quietness of the streets.

We live very rurally but we are not far from a busy A road - it’s out of sight but you can hear it. Today you can’t. It reminds me of the very start of lockdown.

Elieza · 19/09/2022 14:04

Yup. It’s so quiet.

Local corner shop open for an hour or two first and last thing for emergency supplies. Or booze for those who can’t get it elsewhere as the big shops are shut.

Apart from that it’s like day of the triffids here with nothing moving.

Apart from my neighbour whose van was out to work first thing.

TDoginHats · 19/09/2022 14:04

Yes very quiet on the roads and usually very busy motorway near us. We live fairly near the channel, I saw a few non GB registered lorries but no GB ones.
I had to visit my elderly parent to do their care this morning, eerily quiet drive there and back.

darisdet · 19/09/2022 14:05

DC activities still on! They even run on bank holidays and don't cancel for anything.

Otherwise it's very quiet, and I'm not watching any of the proceedings (big a royalist) so using it as an opportunity to catch up on admin and other small jobs. Oh, and I had a lie in this morning.

randomsabreuse · 19/09/2022 14:06

Feels more like Easter and Good Friday afternoon used to be rather than lockdown tbh...

properdoughnut · 19/09/2022 14:06

Lock down was shit

Trytoavoidthebastardbus · 19/09/2022 14:06

The number of people moaning about how there’s nowhere to take the kids today makes me think how they coped in lockdown, we don’t usually leave the house on a normal Sunday 🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh that's absolutely what it is! I'm within hearing distance of a major A road too and there's no traffic noise.

Lots of cafes/bars/ corner shops open where I am and busy parks full of families this morning.
