Nothing open, schools off, people stuck at home*.

My street is usually busy but it's been so quiet today. Buses seem to be running a Sunday service too.

(*I know many people are still at work. Just seems like a lot of people are off, especially with the likes of McDonald's and Starbucks being closed!)

Autocorrect! Not a royalist, not 'big' a royalist

mondaytosunday · 19/09/2022 14:10

The streets are a bit quiet but I took my dogs to the park this morning and there were loads of kids running around and two exercise classes being held! I imagine now that the funeral itself is over and the sun has come out people will be out after lunch.

Ffsmakeitstop · 19/09/2022 14:13

I've been to work this morning. Food shop we were closed so took the opportunity to get stuff done properly.
We've had signs up for at least 4 days and on local FB groups that we will be closed until ,5 pm.
I heard at least 7 different people banging on the be door to come in. We had the shutter 3/4 down but because they could see we were in they thought they were entitled to come in. No fuck off.
But yes the roads were quiet.

Newrumpus · 19/09/2022 14:15

Not for because I worked throughout lockdown and am not working today

TheClogLady · 19/09/2022 14:17

Local pubs and social clubs round here have been open and showing it on big screens definitely nothing like lockdown, more like Boxing Day (aka Xmas without the good bits).

savehannah · 19/09/2022 14:17

We cycled down to town just after 12 and the roads were pretty quiet yes, but in the town centre there were still plenty of people about.

Hawkins001 · 19/09/2022 14:17

@IroningThrone today seems to how a proper lockdown would be, yes we would need the essential services and supermarkets, but none e.g. Home bargains ect

Daydreambeliever1175 · 19/09/2022 14:19

It doesn't even compare to lockdown. It's one day and the circumstances are completely different.

autumnboys · 19/09/2022 14:19

We went out for a walk just after 9am and said the same. Beautiful day, very quiet, hardly anyone around and no traffic.

dottiedodah · 19/09/2022 14:23

Went for a walk by the River early .Not as busy as normal but quite a few families , Nothing on the roads at all! A few dogs for mine to sniff, thats about it

FairyLightAddict · 19/09/2022 14:24

Not like lockdown as the pubs are open 🥳🥳🥳🥳

I didn't say "was exactly like lock down". I said it reminds me of lock down!

In principle it's similar In some aspects

Blueblell · 19/09/2022 14:28

I like it !

thecatsthecats · 19/09/2022 14:30

I like having odd bonus days of closure.

I've just sewn up all my bras where the wire poked out then I'm going to mend a fuse.

I don't get the fretting over productivity. I think it's entirely counterintuitive. If it was raining and you had plenty of food in in your cave, you'd just bum around playing with the kids and sharpening your flint tools. This is no different IMO.

Idontgiveashitanymore · 19/09/2022 14:31

Starbucks is open in the midlands

Haudyourwheesht · 19/09/2022 14:32

I went for a run earlier and the streets are busier than your average Sunday morning I'd say. Independent shops and cafe are open.

mast0650 · 19/09/2022 14:32

Yes that's what my husband said. He just came back from a long bike ride, having started at 10am. Great day for it.

BirdyWoof · 19/09/2022 14:32

Some of the local shops have resumed their opening hours, apparently there’s queues to the door.

I can’t believe people can’t survive without a shop being open, which they knew would be closed, for a few hours of one day.

I find it really embarrassing, to be honest.

21secondstogo · 19/09/2022 14:33

I feel weird about the shops being shut and the thought that I might run out of something. (Rationally not a problem as they will be open in the morning!)

ClinkeyMonkey · 19/09/2022 14:34

Well apart from the massive crowds on the streets, I guess.

The streets of central London you mean? One or two of us don't live there.

It reminded me of lockdown too, when I went down to care for my elderly mother. Nothing open. Very few cars.

Just an observation from the OP. No need for anyone to get their knickers in a twist.

Notplayingball · 19/09/2022 14:35

I hear you. It's like this eeriness in the atmosphere. Horrible. Stuck in limbo.

Some elements are the same

35965a · 19/09/2022 14:40

It doesn’t have the same weird lockdown vibe for me. More like Christmas Day, nothing much open but you know it’ll be business as usual tomorrow.
