So what's the verdict OP? Was it bigger?

Diana Spencer was a highly privileged, rather dim, manipulative, borderline psychiatric, international clothes horse who seemed unable to use the common sense she was born with. It was tragic that she died so young but she should have taken responsibility for herself. Rather than playing puerile games with the paps and a wastrel playboy.

When Diana was a teenager both Charles and camilla were in their thirties. Whatever happened at the end it was obvious what happened at the beginning!

is it? Diana wan’t forced down that aisle, her sister had already dated and dumped him, so it wasn’t as if she couldn’t say no.

DancingBudgie · 20/09/2022 08:45

A decent mother would have been at home with her kids instead of gadding about with another bloke.
Then this ridiculous question wouldn't be asked.

GobbolinoTheWitchesCat · 20/09/2022 13:30

Fairly, it's quite obvious to all that Charles and Diana were terribly suited to each other and both were flawed human beings who treated each other badly.

Most of us have been in bad relationships where things deteriorate to a point in which you bring out the worst of each other. Most of us have lashed out and said or done things we regret when deeply hurt, frustrated or angry. I personally don't think we should judge either too harshly for their marriage and think the fault was equally shared.

Furthermore, yes Diana was terribly young but she was also warned by her family against marrying Charles, who pointed out how poorly suited they were and believed she'd be miserable. Like others have said, she wasn't forced down the aisle.

To the credit of the Royal Family, they learned from their mistakes and changed their entire approach in welcoming women marrying Princes.

And at this rate, I sound like a bloody monarchist, which I'm not..!

Wow I'd love for you to start a thread on Mumsnet asking if mothers are not 'decent' if they have any time away from their children. 🙄

GobbolinoTheWitchesCat · 20/09/2022 13:35

Doesn't anyone else find it ridiculous that over a quarter of a century later people are still bickering about all this?

🙄

eddiemairswife · 20/09/2022 13:42

I thought the marriage was partly engineered by the two grandmothers, and of course Diana might still be here today if she had fastened her seat-belt.

There's a big difference between having a bit of time away from your kids and shagging about abroad as a single parent.
Why would I want to start a thread about it when I have better things to do with my time?

antelopevalley · 20/09/2022 15:58

So what do you think of the dads "shagging" about?
Or is it only the woman who get criticised for this?

I suppose she made an impression. I liked her, not interested in tearing any woman to pieces over her messy personal life. It happens to attractive, popular women that some want to put the boot in if they see a chance. Internalised misogyny or jealousy maybe. Having said it's spiteful I don't have any more to add, really.

Depends if they have residency if the kids or not.
If they do, then the same applies.

It already is.

Diana was really disliked in the period leading up to her death. I'm convinced it was guilt-laden virtue signalling and massive hypocrisy. The morning she died I was on a cross channel ferry. I went and bought the paper - from the day before - it was really attacking her. That evening when we docked I got the same paper but from that day. 'farewell put English rose' on the cover. Total turnaround. I wish I had kept both as nobody believes me. And my mum, like half the country, insists she never said all the anti Diana stuff she did. Personally I didn't like Diana, before or after. Still a tragedy irrespective of that though.

@Damnloginpopup
I believe you. My flat mate used to buy the Daily Mail every day and I would flick through while eating my breakfast.
In the days leading up to her death they were vicious about her and her relationship with Dodi.

I particularly remember a column slating her for her campaign work against land mines. Saying it wasn’t her place to speak publicly on the topic. Of course the editorial line changed immediately on her death to what a saint she was for the same work.

Hypocrites the lot of them.
