To think the later queuers are just going because of FOMO

I think those queuing this late into it are just there because they are part of the hysteria and just want to go for the sake of it. Sheep basically and it’s nothing to do with the queen.

Bumpsadaisie · 18/09/2022 23:20

I'm not sure how many queued in the end but it must be into the 100,000's I imagine.

All with different circumstances and motivations for deciding to do it.

Angrymum22 · 18/09/2022 23:20

Sorry, my DM died 26 yrs ago.
And if by magic I’m watching the news and they are interviewing a woman who lost her DM during Covid and is there in memory of her DM. She felt cheated of a funeral.

TugboatAnnie · 18/09/2022 23:21

Who repeats the fuckwit conspiracy theory of the coffin being empty? THAT is someone with half a brain not the queuers.

Justkidding55 · 18/09/2022 23:20

@PaddleBoardingMomma I never said or implied anyone is an idiot for doing it. You are the only one who has called anyone unintelligent? You make good points it’s just a shame you lack insight into your own hypocrisy. Fancy telling someone off for supposedly implying others are idiots when you actually told them they didn’t listen in class and only watch love island.

Oh I AM sorry, you didn’t call them unintelligent… just hysterical sheep! 🙄 I’d be very careful about throwing the word hypocrisy around when you’ve made such a mean spirited thread

DdraigGoch · 18/09/2022 23:23

Why does it bother you? They're not forcing you to join them.

As an aside, queues were only five hours long when I went to Edinburgh.

Justkidding55 · 18/09/2022 23:25

It’s natural to get swept up in hysteria and follow the crowd I never said it’s stupid I said their reasons are most often than not disingenuous

It is not lauding the monarchy to want to be a first hand witness to an historical event. I’m surprised someone who is supposedly a PhD in a similar vein would say something so vapid.

In fact, were it not for the scribes and people who attended court that were able to witness the events and document them for future generations, you’d have had no information, evidence or literature to have studied, would you? 🧐 If the people who documented through stories, words and paintings hadn't of done so during the medieval period, how do you suppose you would have been able to look back and learn about it? Teleporter, perhaps?

The numerous historical sources that are available to us now are not in any way comparable to thousands of people queueing to see about 3 seconds of the same sight that has been photographed/filmed extensively. Anyway, I was replying to your classist claim that people who aren't interested in this charade must be lacking intelligence or an interest in history. Surely, the blind subservience to the monarchy without questioning their flaws is showing an even greater "idiocy," as you put it.

So every single one of the 100,000’s who have queued are all of menial intelligence and couldn’t possibly have the grasp of history as someone as yourself does?

Im surprised a supposed learned doctor didn’t read what I said before directly responding to it, that stories told through family members of older generations that were ACTUALLY there have their own value?

I fear the 7 years to achieve your doctorate may have been wasted. If you have one at all, that is.

PaddleBoardingMomma · 18/09/2022 23:31

At no point have I suggested everyone attending is a monarchist, a lot will simply want to be part of history. Lived history, not learned history.

from what @Spencerfloral has suggested, you must be thick to go, and not understand anything about the monarchy at all 🤣

In all seriousness though, I think it’s very sad that so many people are putting such little value on being about to tell future generations “I was there” 🤷🏼‍♀️

No, unlike you, I wouldn't make broad judgements about people's understanding of history to make myself feel better about my own insecurities. Also unlike you, I wouldn't claim that my experience/interest with history somehow makes me better than people who prefer other pursuits.

This. ^ As I said, the OP did NOT start this thread with good intentions. It's very mean spirited, catty, and unpleasant.

Justkidding55 · 18/09/2022 23:33

@PaddleBoardingMomma shame you never studied how to talk to people without coming across as a pretentious pompous twit

While you and @PaddleBoardingMomma are being as nice as pie of course.

workiskillingme · 18/09/2022 23:37

Yep just noticed that hideous 'man behaving dadly' has rocked up after moaning about people queuing for the past 4 days. And of course posted a selfie on his fb page. Can't miss a bandwagon

Justkidding55 · 18/09/2022 23:41

@workiskillingme I don’t know who he is but yeah a lot of people I know have moaned about the royal family for years and suddenly are going to “pay their respects”.. I don’t buy it

I love Man Behaving Dadly. He raises a lot of money for excellent causes.

He's pretty much said he's gone out of FOMO. At least he's honest about it!

Justkidding55 · 18/09/2022 23:45

PaddleBoardingMomma · 18/09/2022 23:05

I fear you are entirely correct. Some people will never have a grasp on occasions of historical importance, no respect for a situation and those involved. It’s perfectly fine to say you wouldn’t personally go, but mocking those who do by calling them “halfwits” simply let’s everyone know you either had a poor education or a pretty sad upbringing.

@PaddleBoardingMomma again… where did I call anyone a “halfwit”… ?? You put it in quotations so clearly you are stating I said that. Where??

OP posts:
workiskillingme · 18/09/2022 23:46

I can't stand him. And to take a selfie to post on Facebook like it's queuing for a ride is just disgraceful

workiskillingme · 18/09/2022 23:47

Blimey @PaddleBoardingMomma and @WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps so defensive and invested about this 😂

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 18/09/2022 23:47

Can't join the queue now so all those FOMO folk will be right pissed off.

maybe rude at times yes but pompous or pretentious no. Paddle boarding mama thinks long words or banging on about her education make her sound smart.

basilmint · 18/09/2022 23:56

When Churchill died, 320,000 people are estimated to have queued for several miles over the three days he was lying in state to view the coffin. That was years before I was born but I still know it was a significant occasion. This is the lying-in-state of a monarch who has served for the entirety of most people's lifetimes. It's hardly surprising many have wanted to take part in the occasion.

I was watching the tribute to the Queen earlier and there were enormous crowds in the streets at her wedding and coronation. Royal events have always attracted vast numbers of visitors and this is in many ways the most momentous occasion of all. There have been many royal weddings and jubilee celebrations in living memory but tomorrow will be the first funeral of a monarch for most.
