AIBU to think you shouldn’t take a newborn baby on a holiday abroad

Ive recently just came back from a holiday to barcelona and it was the worst plane ride of my life! A poor newborn baby was screaming at the top of its lungs the whole flight. I have kids myself a Daughter who is 20 and a son who is 16 so i know how stressful i can be in a public place when your baby starts crying but i would never take a tiny baby on a 4 hour flight. It’s not fair for the baby and it affects all the other passengers on the plane. I think it’s quite irresponsible to bring a freshly born baby on a plane, i’m sure this will be an unpopular opinion but a lot of the people on the plane were being affected by it. From what i seen on the baby it was only about a month old, atleast wait a few more months until your baby is old enough to play with toys and be occupied!

It is a very long time since you had babies. They will often cry for much much longer than a few months. Like others I think you are very naive in thinking the only reason people use planes is to go on holiday.

What is repatriating ?

Public transport is public transport. You take your chances.

I had to take myself and my kids including one who was a newborn on a plane. It was for a funeral. I'm happy to think that people judged me for it and thought I was irresponsible.

Never mind that I didn't have anyone to mind them. I must've been on holiday and I was doing the wrong thing 🙄

I lived overseas for 25 years and flew with my kids when they were babies. Agree with pp that a baby is easy than a 2 year old.

You realise babies cry for a multitude of reasons right?

I don’t agree op but more because a newborn baby is a newborn baby anywhere. It’s unlikely the flight itself was distressing as all she/he will need is sleep, milk, cuddles and to be changed. My only worry would be if their ears were hurting, which suckling milk should help.

Think about it OP, what harm can a baby or toddler do on a plane? No harm whatsoever…meanwhile I have had a number of very uncomfortable flights due to drunken adults…they could actually do some damage. Give me a crying baby any day. I would just offer to give him/her a cuddle to help mum out.

Missing the point completely I’m sure, but it’s only just over 2 hours flying time to Barcelona surely, even though it’s usually scheduled at 2:45 or so. Not 4. And people travel with small children and babies for all sorts of reasons at all times. It is public transport after all!

Clearly an unpopular opinion but I agree with you OP.

For context though, I have a fussy baby who I'm fairly certain would not cope well with a flight. Or a holiday lol. But I'm less concerned about the other passengers (although I get the sound of a baby crying can be irritating) and more about my baby.

Spain is also a top destination for ex-pats!

YANBU. It’s irresponsible to expose a newborn to that many peoples germs in a confined space with recycled air.
