AIBU to think you shouldn’t take a newborn baby on a holiday abroad

Ive recently just came back from a holiday to barcelona and it was the worst plane ride of my life! A poor newborn baby was screaming at the top of its lungs the whole flight. I have kids myself a Daughter who is 20 and a son who is 16 so i know how stressful i can be in a public place when your baby starts crying but i would never take a tiny baby on a 4 hour flight. It’s not fair for the baby and it affects all the other passengers on the plane. I think it’s quite irresponsible to bring a freshly born baby on a plane, i’m sure this will be an unpopular opinion but a lot of the people on the plane were being affected by it. From what i seen on the baby it was only about a month old, atleast wait a few more months until your baby is old enough to play with toys and be occupied!

I don't believe anyone is motivated by concern for the newborn's welfare.

It's OK to find screaming babies on planes annoying. Nobody likes it. But it's public transport. A flying bus. Babies are part of society, sometimes you'll have to encounter them if you move in public spaces.

Are parenting websites not annoying as fuck for people who hate kids so much that they're reduced to calling them unfunny names?

There are other parts of the site that would appeal to anyone but this thread is the equivalent of being next to an annoying baby and surely only a parent would entertain the aggravation.

Everyone in the vicinity has to entertain it unless they want to bail out at 30,000 feet. Ironically, I think the parents are probably the most tempted.

At any rate, if someone dislikes kids, one has to wonder why they had them and/or frequent forums about them. If I hated dogs, I wouldn't visit a site called Dogsnet, if only because I'd be a bit embarrassed to show that I didn't appear to have made the connection.

YABU. The parents are perfectly entitled to take their newborn on holiday if they choose to. None of your business.

I don’t think she is being unreasonable to voice her concern and to be upset. There are actually some very good reasons not to take a newborn on a flight. A newborn cannot regulate pressure in their eardrums hence possibly why the baby is screaming. Plus you have the air conditioning and bugs people always pick up from flights a newborn won’t have the immunity. There was also research which demonstrated a higher risk of cot death. Obviously there are circumstances where people really don’t have a choice but this is likely to be in the real minority.

I am a parent of young children but I do recognise that people have the right to travel without my children annoying them. I therefore use my common sense and avoid situations which would create an issue and annoy everyone else and this would include a long flight with a newborn.

We seem to have lost our ability sometimes for common sense, when you have young children you do have to change your lifestyle for a little while why should everyone else suffer for you. It’s such a small amount of time but there are people out there who think everyone else should adapt to them. Why should 100 plus people on a plane who have paid and saved for a holiday, plus as argued whose circumstances you don’t know suffer a screaming crying baby. It’s not like a four or five year old who can be reasoned with and may or may not behave. You know you can’t reason with a newborn. If you take your newborn on a flight and they scream it is very unreasonable to expect everyone else to tolerate it and you have put yourself in that position.

First of all, you have no idea why that family were on a plane. You don't know why that baby was screaming. You don't know it was a new born. My baby weighed 7lb at 5 months.

Because it's public transport and babies are members of the public. If you don't want to take your chances on public transport, stay home or take a private jet.
