AIBU?
To be seemingly the only one at work tomorrow
Givenupgivingashit · 18/09/2022 15:16
Apart from me and and my other NHS colleagues, all of my friends seem to be off work tomorrow, teachers, retail workers, office workers.
Please tell me that there's someone else at work keeping the country running?!
Am I being unreasonable?

I'm working tomorrow. Need to make use of the weather while I can. Plus I've been to too many funerals lately.

I'm an office worker & in work tomorrow.
Out of interest, is that your choice or have you been told to go in?
3214StrangeDay · 18/09/2022 15:25
I will be working tomorrow, not NHS
Work for a 24x7x365 department
ScampiFlies · 18/09/2022 15:26
Me, hotel. It will be slightly quieter than usual but not much.
I said I wouldn't mind working, dh is off so no childcare needed.
ManateeFair · 18/09/2022 15:26
It’s not really any different to other public holidays - there will be lots of people working in roles that require it. The country doesn’t implode on Christmas Day or Easter Sunday, let alone a normal bank holiday Monday, so I doubt it will tomorrow either!

That's my view too, but supermarkets only usually close on 2 days of the year!

Are bank holidays a new concept to you? We have 8 every year and the country does just fine. If you're annoyed you've chosen employment that doesn't automatically give bank holidays then just say that instead of this dig at others.
TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 18/09/2022 15:29
I’ll be at work.
Support worker in a small care home.
dadadeedadada · 18/09/2022 15:29
I'm only off because it's my rostered day off (care home).
mycatisannoying · 18/09/2022 15:30
I've made a lunch booking at a French restaurant for tomorrow. 16 year old has been wanting to go for ages, and we're off school and work so ...
I was really surprised that they're open, to be honest (we're in Scotland).

No not at all. I'm just surprised that so many people who normally work bank holidays (not teachers or some office staff) are being told not to work tomorrow because their place of work is closed. I know that the Center Parcs thing has already been covered but there's lots of other examples too, eg filling stations
girlmom21 · 18/09/2022 15:31
I'm not working but I don't keep the country running when I am anyway.
And I already had it booked as annual leave so was a bit annoyed when it was announced as a bank holiday!
SpringRainbow · 18/09/2022 15:31
My (ex?) DH will be working tomorrow. I don’t know anyone else working.
RamblingFar · 18/09/2022 15:31
I work mainly nights, so I'll be doing my normal hours tonight and tomorrow night. I'm self-employed though and probably would have taken the 'day' off if it had be one of the days I normally have the odd client meeting.
Shiningstarr · 18/09/2022 15:34
I work for the NHS and surprise surprise, was on the rota to work tomorrow. I was annoyed as really wanted to watch the funeral.
A friend wasn't bothered about it, so swapped with me.
Cantstandsmugness · 18/09/2022 15:35
I have to work, normally get bank hols off but its so last minute there is too much going on. Can get an extra days pay but I would much rather be off! Gutted to say the least.
LuaDipa · 18/09/2022 15:36
I’ll be wfh and a few others in the office are working. We are an ‘essential service’ (hate that term, reminds me of the lockdowns) and volunteers were requested to cover and take our day later. I’m happy to work tomorrow and very much looking forward to a midweek day off soon when everything is actually open.
BungleandGeorge · 18/09/2022 15:37
It’s a bank holiday akin to Easter or Christmas where the vast majority of things close. Which I think is right as it’s a day of mourning and not a ‘holiday’ to visit non essentials like leisure etc. if most things were open what’s the point?
Harridan1981 · 18/09/2022 15:38
It is slightly different to a standard bank holiday, as there is something specific to watch, so I kind of get it. We are unlikely to watch
CakeCrumbs44 · 18/09/2022 15:40
There are quite a lot of places closed which would usually be open on a bank holiday - entertainment venues for example, pubs and restaurants, fast food outlets, family places like soft play and farms and theme parks.
