To mow the lawn tomorrow?

I planned to do it today but it’s raining. I’m not going to do it during the funeral but would I be unreasonable to do it later in the day tomorrow?

To mow or not to mow, that is the question. I have some other questions: Why are our brains so utterly controlled by the media? Why do we fear stepping out of line, being policed by our neighbours, and how much of our time is ruled by FOMO? How much of social media consumed and regurgitated ends up dictating our thoughts, wishes and actions?

It's like Covid2020 all over again. Am I allowed out etc...

MolkosTeenageAngst · 18/09/2022 16:50

Absolutely fine even during the funeral, assuming your lawn isn’t within the grounds of Westminster Abbey.

On what possible grounds would it be unreasonable to mow the grass tomorrow?

Because it makes a noise and is therefore disrespectful. Lets face it, having a beep to tell you when your shopping has scanned was deemed disrespectful by Morrisons. Just do it OP. Maybe not between 11 and 12.

SamWidges · 18/09/2022 17:07

I wouldn't mind the sound of a lawnmower tmw. What I'd really like (as I do everyday) is for my neighbours to stop their kid from shrieking and screaming outside in the back garden for what seems like hours without any checking from them. They just let him shriek. A lawnmower wouldn't drown his noise out.

Jealousofchiliheeler · 18/09/2022 17:09

God I wish I hadn't read this thread. I'm planning to cut my lawn tomorrow (I'm working today) and now I'm second guessing myself and feeling paranoid that my mostly elderly neighbours will all hate me if I do! Bloody Mumsnet....

So you think it's appropriate to mow a lawn on the day our Queen is laid to rest? The rudeness on this site amazes me.

Oh give over. My neighbour was building a shed on the day I buried my mum....I cared not a jot, and ,to me, my mum was more important than the Queen.

Loics · 18/09/2022 17:37

Do it during the funeral if you want. We'll be going about our day as normal tomorrow. Live TV won't be on all day as we have no interest in the funeral and are tired of seeing mention of it everywhere.

Vinylloving · 18/09/2022 17:38

Good giddy god

mistermagpie · 18/09/2022 17:49

I've got three kids aged 7, 5 and 2. Not a chance are they going to sit and watch an old lady's funeral on tv. I don't even know when it's on, so we'll just be going about our business like we do on any other day when someone we don't know is laid to rest.

Mow your lawn. Unless it's in the grounds of Buckingham palace.

That's what I was wondering.
Might do ours if it stays dry.

Yes, I think it’s entirely appropriate
Unless OP lives on Westminster green, it will have absolutely zero impact on the funeral, anyone’s ability to watch it and anyone’s chance to mourn

The idea that the country should go around silently with tears running down our cheeks is just absurd and nothing at all to do with respect

Testina · 18/09/2022 18:02

@tenbob “Unless OP lives on Westminster green” - I think you just cracked the missing piece of information that would make any sense of the OP 🤣

inmyslippers · 18/09/2022 18:02

It's what liz would have wanted

countrygirl99 · 18/09/2022 18:05

Kind of regretting that DH mowed the lawn today now as it means it won't need doing tomorrow. Mind you, he's working tomorrow and it's a job I hate so 🤷‍♀️

This

Sirius3030 · 18/09/2022 19:14

It’s what her Majesty would’ve wanted.

This is a joke thread isn't it? Please let it be a joke.

Sparklingbrook · 18/09/2022 19:15

Her majesty would not have wanted anyone to have an overgrown lawn surely?

National mourning isn't a joke.

tigger1001 · 18/09/2022 19:17

Jesus. Of course it's ok to mow the lawn tomorrow if the weather isn't good enough.

To be honest, I don't even see an issue at doing it while the funeral is on - not like it will disturb the actual funeral. Anyone who is wanting to watch it, will be indoors watching it.

People die every day. People are buried/cremated every day. The world doesn't come to a stop because of that.

I am planning to work. I don't have an interest in watching the funeral of someone I don't know.

NerrSnerr · 18/09/2022 19:17

It is EVERYTHING to do with respect. You clearly have none for our queen who gave her whole life over to serving us while you can't even have a day set aside to honour her majesty. People like you make me sick.

People can choose to remember the Queen how they wish, if they wish. They have made tomorrow a bank holiday so people can watch not so people have to watch.

You're really deluded if you think the royal family care if Eileen from Norfolk is mowing her lawn tomorrow or if Andy has gone out on his bike in Newcastle.

National mourning isn't a joke.

Nor is it mandatory!

NerrSnerr · 18/09/2022 19:18

Oh I think @Carpy88999 is joking! Sorry if you are- completely over my head!!

If you were my neighbour mowing your lawn while the funeral was on I would shame you so bad on the neighbourhood WhatsApp group. You'd be the laughing stock of the street for all of time.
