To think Prince Harry should now do whatever it takes to cancel his book contract?

And withdraw his book?

A rapprochement looks possible if he meets the RF halfway.

I think that people who are already American can accept titles from forrin countries. But as Meghan's title is through marriage to Harry, I don't know what would happen if he couldn't use his in the US. Any immigration lawyers around??

If Charles gives Archie and Lilbert their own titles, they'd belong to them, I presume.

dudsville · 20/09/2022 18:07

I don't fangirl anyone and I'm not a royalist, but H&M are my favourite royals. They're what i wish the rest were like.

Maireas · 20/09/2022 18:17

Confused about titles in the USA now!
Charles hasn't "given" Archie and Lilibet titles, they've inherited them by virtue of them being grandchildren of the monarch.
Can they call themselves Prince and Princess? Harry still calls himself Prince and they both still use the Dukedom titles?

What do I mean, what?

Your post said Harry probably heard about the queen only minutes before the public because of the time difference. What time difference???

He was on the UK and had been for days

@Roussette With all due respect, I’ve already said I don’t following the comings and goings of the royal family, so I wouldn’t have known if Harry was in the UK “for days”. When I said that, I literally meant it.

I was just thinking of my own personal experience, where due to the time difference, I missed a phone call that still haunts me to this day. I even make it known in workplace meetings, Perhaps that is what what I was projecting my feelings onto. Thankfully in my case, my loved one survived and the operations were successful, but she never regained her speech and so I was never able to fully speak to her again. You won’t have known that, I don’t divulge personal information and I won’t go beyond that and even writing even an ounce of it, still triggers deep-felt emotions.

So yes, in my eyes, I thought Harry was abroad and may have, just like I did, missed a crucial phone call.

I often forget how toxic Mumsnet has become when I got most of my info about the royal family from here so I wouldn’t have to watch the news repeatedly for things that are of no interest to me, and whilst here I am trying to give others the benefit, it’s clear it doesn’t go both ways.

Agreed!

@Maireas
I have absolutely no idea. and I suspect Harry didn't look into any of this before he moved to the US either. 😂 All I know for sure is what's stated on the naturalization application, and it sounds as if he wouldn't be able to use his titles in the US if he applies for citizenship

It's just a bit of a bugger if you want to live somewhere long term and need your titles to be relevant.

OK, and with all due respect to you, it was just bizarre to think of time differences when there had been just countless threads on here and media articles literally everywhere about him and Meghan in the UK.

Now you've explained, I understand but I really didn't know about your loved one or missing a call due to time differences. I am sorry you went through that. If I had known, of course I would not be saying 'oh dear' . I didn't understand about your circumstances and I do hope you realise that... I agree on giving others the benefit of the doubt, but in doing so I do need to know the circumstances.

Anyway, all the best to you Flowers @MsBucket

He’s still the son of the King of England whether he uses his title or not so it’s a irrelevant really.

He doesn’t need citizenship anyway, he can just take residency.

Imagine the kerfuffle here if he ditched his title and became a US citizen - we’d never hear the end of the squawking - betrayed the country, turned his back, all the fault of the scheming hussy yadda yadda.

I should think a lot of people would respect him for that, actually.

derxa · 20/09/2022 19:11

King of England Please stop using this incorrect title. It's really insulting to those of us from the rest of the UK. No wonder the SNP do so well.

@IrisVersicolor I'm sure he'll be fine, but it's an odd situation, definitely a case of half in and half out.

IrisVersicolor · 20/09/2022 19:20

Nanh he’d mainly be called a traitor to his family and country etc.

To take citizenship you actually have to renounce ‘allegiance and fidelity’ ‘to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty’ of which you have been a subject.

So he’d have to renounce allegiance to his own father as well as his country.

He’d also have to swear to fight for the US army if required by law.

IrisVersicolor · 20/09/2022 19:20

Right. So is Harry just a "resident" and his wife and children "citizens"?
How long is he able to be resident?

Depends whether he's a permanent resident yet, @Maireas Once you have permanent residency, you have to renew every 10 years and you can't spend more than six months of the year outside the US. Residents are held to higher standards than citizens and mustn't break any laws or do anything dodgy, or they can be deported.

He'd better not get a speeding ticket. 😂

coodawoodashooda · 20/09/2022 19:37

If he ever wants a relationship with his brother again he needs to cancel it.

He needs to be careful with those juggling balls, then!

Justkidding55 · 20/09/2022 20:02

Disgusting because they both know the royals won’t defend themselves so they can say whatever lies they want. The worst thing is that he’s clearly not happy with Meghan and yet there is literally no way back for him. He knows Meghan wouldn’t make it easy to leave and the public will be difficult to win back. He’s so stuck and you can see he’s completely miserable.

Justkidding55 · 20/09/2022 20:04

😂 long ones. V v long titles. Prince of that town in Wales with the v long name.

@mumsneedwine 😂😂

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 20/09/2022 20:17

Do you know who's one of the luckiest guys there is? Trevor Engleson. He must be so relieved. He's never spoken about Meghan, to his credit, but I imagine life wasn't plain sailing given the circus of the last couple of years.
