And withdraw his book?

A rapprochement looks possible if he meets the RF halfway.

Yes, agree with @derxa if their view of themselves matched their real selves it'd jarr less. Maybe they will see this in time, that they don't have to be perfect but they should stop telling us who they are when the aren't aware of that.

At this point, I think the Sussexes would complain if they were offered semi-skimmed milk rather than skimmed for their cereal. 😂

Give over, she must have oat or almond milk surely?

That only works if Charlotte and Louis complete their families before Charles dies. If new LPs are issued saying grandchildren don't get HRHs, it would mean only George and his children were entitled to HRHs after William is crowned.

Yes, exactly, this is how the Norwegian and Swedish do it and the Swedish monarch only made this change in 2019. The children of the first born child of the monarch will get titles and that will carry on down the generations.

I realise I said yes exactly, but I am not agreeing with you. What I mean is if the LP are changed they can make it that the children of the first born child to the heir will get titles and royal duties and this will continue down the generations. This is as said how they do it in Sweden and Norway.

There was a point to bizarre ramblings about Harry becoming fat, Meghan turning into a plastic surgery addict, and a baby growing up to become a cokehead? Really?

Because it looked like unhinged ranting.

It was a little tongue in cheek.

Have you ever seen what happens to people who are essentially washed up reality tv stars? That's the direction they are going in if they carry on.

Right now things are about as good as they are likely to get. They are going to become middle aged before long. They won't have any more revelations. Their attempts at producing really original content have had mixed success. And they more they try and stay relevant by trading on their connections the more desperate they will seem.

Hence the idea of a descent into being Hollywood d-list celebs with all the trappings. Always looking for the next gig.

If there is more to them, they should try offering that now rather than making themselves into caricatures.

But there are many things I've done which are justifiably open to criticism. I have regrets and should have done things differently. Every human being on earth is the same. I'm not a saint. Are you? H&M are not saints but they attempt to portray themselves as such. They've caused pain to their family. And for what?

Anything is open to criticism to people who are emotionally looking for people to criticise.

Their family have caused pain to them. So what? That’s life. I can’t muster up enough interest to split hairs over their behaviour though as I really don’t care what they do.

I just wish there was more truth out there than DailyM, Wootton, Tominey and the likes of Levin who people seem to buy into.

I think they have been badly misrepresented in the British papers. If there isn't a story they just make one up for clickbait. I feel sorry for H&M
What I said in 2019 on threads stands..
They cannot do a thing right

I've actually got to the point (and I never thought I'd say this)... I am hoping they throw a bomb under the RF and tell it like it is. They have not been protected or looked after.
The RF shod have stood up for them far far more than they did
They were more concerned about discounting stories about KM having hair extensions than tackling vile racism from the RF's favourite media

If they’ve got bombs to throw good luck to them.

To be fair though the RF are hoist by their own petards - the consorting with paedophiles, the cash payments from rich Arabs, the dodgy deals, the tone deaf colonial tours of commonwealth countries. They hardly need bombs for all the shooting themselves in the foot.

IrisVersicolor · 18/09/2022 21:40

Bottom line is if the RF had treated them appropriately and decently, there wouldn’t be the rift and there is now. This is a problem that’s entirely of the RF and courtiers’ making.

They've done nothing wrong this trip but they're slated everywhere...M smirking (not), carrying flowers, just breathing and being there
I dont blame them for anything they say given they've behaved impeccably and generated loads of threads here about nothing and having to suffer a load of bollocks articles in the rags. I'd be fighting back if it were me!

quote : This is the same Kate and William who entertained the Obamas with a slave painting on the wall, with its label “the negro page” hidden by a plant pot. The same K&W who embarked on a cloth-eared tour of the Caribbean that was by all accounts excruciating to watch.

The painting was in a palace then William and Kate would not have known the painting I expect there are quite a few on show! but agree advisors should have noted it and had it removed.
I doubt W and K go round checking each picture before a visit, it’s not like they will have a few from Ikea. The Obamas and W and K are great friends so that speaks volumes.
Also I do agree the visit to the Caribbean was badly handled, excited children grabbing their hands through a wire gate isn’t a good look but apparently it was a football or sports event and just excited kids. Once again it’s all perception.
Not one bit of this shows W and K are rascist but if Meghan says it enough in interviews then mud even imaginary mud sticks.
Trump was an expert at this, with his I’m going to open all the coal mines inflation is down employment is up etc it was all lies but no one could prove it till ages afterwards. Meghan seems to be employing the same tactics.

Does anyone think the Obamas would really find the painting offensive? They are educated people, they've been all over the world, and it's not actually an offensive painting. There are a heck of a lot more questionable topics in art.

The fact that somebody felt the need to cover the title is what's pretty silly.

I agree. I’ve actually avoided all the interminable twaddle over this funeral - but I’ve not heard of them doing anything but showing up.

I understand why they’re done with the whole toxic shitshow. The palace fucked over Diana and now they’re fucking over her son. It’s what monarchies do historically - brides and younger sons are ruthlessly manoeuvred.

Let’s get this straight - in the context of a RF who have profited enormously from the wealth of the slave trade, not least the Duke of York’s Royal Africa Company which actually traded in slaves: you can’t see why members of a white imperialist institution displaying a picture of an African slave to a couple, one of whose forebears were slaves, would be in anyway awkward, insensitive, or culturally unaware?

While I think Michelle Obama is tough as old boots and dignity personified, if they’d wanted make them feel subtly uncomfortable I can’t think of many better ways of doing it.

That's really interesting isn't it. An American journalist!

I don't think that's terribly surprising. There was some American journalism around that time that really seemed keen on the whole idea of an inner city, black, American actress marrying Harry, and they laid it on a little thick.

The vibe was a bit like a Hallmark special of some kind and I don't think it was intended to be mean especially. People love a rags to riches story and the idea of shaking up a staid institution.

I could never decide if that was what the DM thought they were doing with that article or not. Obviously people didn't like it much and the whole narrative was somewhat fictional either way.

Yeah, actually I think your description here is pretty far off base. If people were really this fragile we'd be in serious trouble. BO is a person who greaw up in an international setting. He's well aware that slavery is an almost ubiquitous social institution in every part of the world and among every race, and that there are plenty of historical artifacts depicting it.

I'd add, if you have seen the painting, it's just a picture of a boy holding the bridal of a horse. He status as a slave is not as obvious as you seem to think, it's entirely possible he was no more (or less) a slave than any boy acting as a page might have been at that time. Do you really want all 17th century paintings depicting black people to be shut in a cupboard? Do you think BO would?

The concern of whoever took of the plaque seems to have been with the word Negro, but there is no reason to think that BO is unaware that it was the preferred term of black Americans up through the first half of the 20th century, and so it would not be odd to find it on an old painting.

It really doesn't require being hard as nails to be reasonably comfortable with that painting in the room.

They told Harry the Queen died minutes before making it public after telling the prime minister who had only even been pm a couple days. They did not allow him on the same flight hence him being so late to get there. They made him travel alone. The treatment of Hatry had been awful during this. They gave Andrew a seat and his far more a disgrace than any of them.

FromEden · 19/09/2022 01:13

Probably because they didn't want Omid Scobie announcing on Twitter that the queen had died before the official channels had reported it

Would you have been happy to give clicks to racist content in a different publication?

@ReneBumsWombats What do you mean exactly? Even if it’s a different publication, of course I wouldn’t click on it if it had racist content. That’s such an absurd question.

I just pointed out that I wished you had mentioned it was from the Daily Mail since you provided links. It would have taken one short sentence to add a disclaimer. Instead of singling me out, perhaps you should look into why there are such abhorrent clickbait titles and why it’s better not to share such articles in the first place? Clearly a lot of people are clicking and sharing and commenting whether they agree or disagree with the main sentiments of the article so why would tabloids even stop? It’s a free country so you can read what you want.

@JustAnotherManicMomday Where did they give Andrew a seat? And why couldn’t Harry get on the same flight? Maybe it was fully booked? Also, logistically they had to tell the PM because she’s the PM and we live in a constitutional monarchy. As for telling Harry minutes before telling the public? Has this even been confirmed? If so, maybe just maybe people were just following the rehearsed plans and procedures in the event of the Queen’s death and Harry and Meghan and the kids . living in America wasn’t part of that original plan? But I’m sure someone called or messaged him. I’m also assuming there is a time difference so there is a possibility that he could have just missed the call?

You knew it was racist content because I quoted it in the post and it was in answer to someone demanding to see evidence of racist articles.

If you wouldn't click on racist content anywhere, why did you click on it?

And what difference would it have made if it had been a different publication?

You're making out Harry IS Omid Scobie, having seen him on a BBC programme, I can assure you, he is not!
What a ridiculous thing to say. Harry would be shell shocked that his Grandmother has died and you think the first thing he is going to do is ring OS?
You're just saying that to be funny or clever. Give him a break.

I didn't post it. I reposted it. I said they are not on Easyjet, I presume you are disputing that 🤣 I must go and check Easyjet's twitter feed and see if they've capitalised on it!

I'm also just amused at the poster who didn't realise he was in the UK when the Queen died and saying the reason why he heard after others was because of the time difference with him in the US. No knowledge from me about phone calls, no, apart from the fact there's no time differences in the UK!

Getting called 'the pilot' makes a change from 'Are you Meghan'
'Are you Doria'
'Are you getting paid'
'Do you work for Sunshine Sachs'

Good one!
