To be impressed that Holly and Phil queued to see the Queen

I saw on the news today that they both paid their respects. I know MPs got tickets to jump the queue which is fair enough given how busy they are running the country, but obviously run of the mills celebrities don't get that sort of treatment. We haven't seen many celebrities actually pay tribute given they wouldn't want to queue so long, so I was quite touched to see the picture of them walking through. True British gems.

Holly was wearing a face mask and I wondered whether it was an attempt to be inconspicuous. It would have worked if Phil had worn one too - the camera-person probably wouldn't have realised who they were if they'd both been wearing masks and wouldn't have zoomed in.

Magblosschertent · 16/09/2022 11:52

@DonnaBanana

Oh I thought Phil & Kirstie and that would be more plausible 😏

ScrambledSmegs · 16/09/2022 11:53

Yes, she said she joined the queue at Butlers Wharf at 1:23pm, with her mum and a friend. Entered Westminster Hall at 8:43pm, so queued for 7hrs 20 mins.

She's getting lots of kudos for it, which is making me feel oddly proud of this strange small nation. Only in Britain do we praise someone for queuing Grin

Sorry that's to @ancientgran about Susanna Reid

lickenchugget · 16/09/2022 11:53

Phil, hiding in plain sight as usual

Aubriella · 16/09/2022 11:56

Did they actually queue, or was it a photo op?

Greyarea12 · 16/09/2022 11:56

Get a grip!

girlmom21 · 16/09/2022 11:59

They probably queue jumped so they could talk about it on GMB tomorrow, like Sharon Osborne who 'queued' but was interviewing people for her talk show.

DrDetriment · 16/09/2022 11:59

I'm pretty sure they didn't queue. The lanyards etc give it away. The press reported it wasn't clear though but they were not seen in the main queue.

NipplesSkywards · 16/09/2022 12:01

Are you their agent ? You must be to post something so vomit inducing

Mumspair1 · 16/09/2022 12:04

op it's exactly people like you who are the gullible fools. What exactly are you impressed about? They are just normal people like everyone else?? What makes them above you, that you need to be impressed and gaga over?

Goatling · 16/09/2022 12:06

Who?

NooNakedJacuzziness · 16/09/2022 12:07

Don't forget how BRAVE Philip is though - this is just another example

sponsabillaries · 16/09/2022 12:09

I saw them on the live feed. They weren’t in the public queue. They were in the fast track queue to the left of the shot.

tigger1001 · 16/09/2022 12:09

Very much doubt they queued in the public queue. It's nothing more than a photo op.

If they genuinely wanted to visit the coffin, they would have done so with no mention of it. Same with the photos holly shared of the poems etc her kids wrote.

Fuuuuuckit · 16/09/2022 12:09

Mail online says they were in the press queue.

HangerLaneGyratorySystem · 16/09/2022 12:11

Loved this Guardian article on the psychology of "Queue": www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/sep/15/crowd-behaviour-london-mourning-queen

I think they should just go and see it and walk in as VIPs, who cares? You wouldn't say a journalist should queue to cover the viewing itself (although obviously they might choose to queue in order to cover the whole event from a man in street POV). They are on TV, they'll talk about it, a lot of people will enjoy hearing their account of it. Its no more batshit than Centre Parks etc

Thanks for the info. I only caught it briefly as I was trying to get GS out of bed for school. Can't imagine he'd manage to queue for hours, unless it was football related.

I haven't really been watching much of it, trying to avoid it as I put news programmes on hoping to hear something else but most of it is The Queen. I was thinking it is all a bit bonkers and then I remembered getting on a train, spending an evening sitting in a field, then a night sleeping in a field to hear the Pope, John Paul II, saying mass. So I suppose I was there for a lot longer than 7 hrs but we did have the advantage of being able to sit back and relax, the queues for the Queen seem to be constantly on the move. I do remember the same camaraderie, sharing out food and drink with people round us, giving a thirsty child some of our squash and her mum offering us a coffee etc. So I suppose I'm bonkers as well just religion bonkers instead of monarchy bonkers. Takes all sorts.

limitedperiodonly · 16/09/2022 12:13

They queued but not in the sense that other people are queueing for nine hours. They got a press pass and waited for about an hour or so indoors with access to refreshments and loos.

I don't blame them. If someone gave me a pass to jump the normal queue I'd probably go. If my mum was still alive she'd kill me if I not only turned it down but didn't wangle one for her.

But don't confuse this perk of the job for a humanitarian act.

PS have you seen Alice Beer making a right balls up of talking to people in the actual queue for Holly and Phil's show?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 16/09/2022 12:13

Who even cares?

There you go then. Seems reasonable to me.

True British gems
People who don´t believe in the monarchy are not truly British? So sick of all this fawning mawkish crap.

Aubriella · 16/09/2022 11:56

Did they actually queue, or was it a photo op?

If they had queued they would have had a camera crew following every weary footstep, every “bless you” to the crowd , every change of Holly’s outfit, every trip to the portaloo……….

Kanaloa · 16/09/2022 12:20

Why are you impressed that two rich celebs went to a little room to wait (in much higher comfort than others) to do a photo op? What’s impressive to you about that? Are you really easily impressed or have you just not seen much genuinely impressive stuff?
