Why does Edward get to be in uniform after serving for 4 months lol
Harry 10 years, 2 tours of Afghanistan and no recognition!!!

I agree.

Also agree with pp that the unearned medals are pathetic and embarrassing.

mpsw · 15/09/2022 23:21

Out of interest how senior do you have to be to wear your uniform?

Serving, any rank.

Retired - can be done if Lt Col (or equivalent) or higher, but it's considered rather naff

There was a bloke on the news with his medals on his anorak...

That's fine - medals can be worn on mufti, providing the occasion merits it. Usually seen at Remembrance events, funerals and weddings

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 15/09/2022 23:27

Well according to the Daily Fail both Harry and Andrew have now been permitted to wear them.

Pengwinn · 15/09/2022 23:33

They did not strip him of his military honours but of his ceremonial duties.

Meh plenty of serving personnel just have jubilee or across service commemoration type medals.

Harry was stripped of his military titles when he left the Royal family. Its protocol .
Why do you care so much?

It does seem a bit mean to strip Military titles, I’d have thought if someone had Served that they would still be allowed to wear the Dress Uniforms (?) on significant occasions?

That is not the case. When you retire, you no longer wear uniform, any version, regardless of occasion.

See my post at 21:06, which outlines the principle exceptions

He wanted to leave the royal family as a working royal, so he actively chose to give up those honorary titles. He wasn’t “stripped” of them.

We'll see soon enough.

If the monarch (who is also commander-in-chief) decrees that an exception be made, then it'll happen.

And given that Andrew had a 22 year career and retired as Commander (Lt Col equivalent) compared to Harry's 10 years retiring as Capt, I can see why - if exceptions are to be justified on basis of previous military service - it would be both

LuluBlakey1 · 15/09/2022 23:45

This is why. Edward has a whole series of current military appointments, mainly honorary although he has, until the Queen's death, been her Aide de-camp. Harry has no current military appointments and does not serve in the military and so is no longer allowed to wear uniform.

I really hope this is true. Totally unnecessary source of discord if not.

LuluBlakey1 · 15/09/2022 23:50

According to Wikipedia, Andrew is still a Vice-Admiral in the Royal Navy. If that is true, he is still entitled to wear the uniform.

AdobeWanKenobi · 15/09/2022 23:52

Show them the original then from the other day.

MoveMore · 15/09/2022 23:53

It wasn’t mean to strip the honourably military titles Harry left the role he didn’t want to do it. He didn’t even go to the significant military event choosing to attend a Lion King event instead.

I don’t understand why by people aren’t seeing the facts which have been repeated time and again that once out military you can’t wear the uniform (unless you’d reached a certain rank). The WORKING royals have honourary military roles to maintain the link between the military and the royals. The monarch is the head of the forces. No one is pretending they all earned their medals. They are ceremonial.

I mean everyone goes on and on about Harry’s service and two tours of Afghanistan’s. Yet Andrew served in the Falklands (he’s a horrid person but the die do that) and he was in for a lot longer than a Harry every was. Charles served and William served too. No they didn’t go into a war zone (although how much danger H especially was in is up for questioning!) Surely not every single person who has served has seen active war service? Does that make their years in the military worthless too?

Edward did four months he isn’t pretending he served any more than that. His uniform is due to his current service as a working royal and his ceremonial/honour role involved in that royal service.

Its amusing no one questions why Anne is wearing the full get up (and I believe outranks her brothers except Charles). Everyone seems on board with her being in uniform.

The working Royals wear uniform as part of their royal roles. The military is literally HM services after all. Harry plays on his service as far as I can see. He did 10 years big deal hundreds of men and women did that or longer and were on far more danger and they aren’t allowed to wear uniforms either. He needs to get over himself.

LuluBlakey1 · 15/09/2022 23:53

I think neither Andrew nor Harry should wear uniform. I have no idea why their demands would be pandered to. The behaviour of both has been entirely inappropriate and neither is self-aware enough to recognise that or they would not behave as they do.

All those medals Edward got in 4 months. Must have been a mental 4 months!

😂 I’m showing my friends and family this one!

MN ate my quote. Post above was in reply to this.

Whatever the current opinions are about Andrew, he served HM in the Falklands and was often in great danger because of it, one of his roles was to draw enemy fire away from the warships.

Pity his arse wasn't blown out from under him.

He was stripped of honorary military titles because he was no longer in a position to carry out his honorary duties seeing as he doesn't live here any more.

You might have thought they could still wear dress uniforms but you'd be wrong because that us not allowed for any past soldier with the rank of captain.

If it had been, it would have taken out the rest of the helicopter crew.

Not good

Is it any wonder Harry left ? Why would you want a life like this? What a shower of crap. I hope he goes back to America and lives a happy life free from all of this nonsense.

Harry left because his wife wanted to.

Agree - better if he's not in uniform, as he's walked away from it.

It must be exasperating for him (if he ever reads summaries of what people are saying online) to see there are voices persistently trying to put him straight back into the role and trappings
