Why does Edward get to be in uniform after serving for 4 months lol
Harry 10 years, 2 tours of Afghanistan and no recognition!!!

@Peapop777 I asked an army friend about this, because I thought the same:
Only serving military are allowed (that's probably not the right word but you know what I mean) to wear uniform (other than medals which can be worn when not serving).
Most of the royal family hold honorary military titles and therefore are classed as serving. Harry no longer has a military title and therefore is not classed as serving, much the same as how anyone else who had done active duty like Harry, and been rightly commended but gone on to be discharged, would under the rules (also not the right word but I can't think of anything better) not be able to wear uniform to an event.

His (my military friend's) bigger issue was around Andrew - he also apparently (according to my friend, I'm not an expert) no longer has an active military role so it is inappropriate that he will be wearing uniform, particularly given the circumstances of him giving up his military role vs Harry...

SorryForTheRant · 15/09/2022 21:10

@mpsw explained it much better whilst I was still typing!

GreenLunchBox · 15/09/2022 21:18

It backfired on them.

They all blended into one. In this pic he looked like a king with his bodyguards 😂

Thank you for this, it maybe explains it better, for those who have served and have upmost respect for who they serve at this time.
Harry deserves his uniform, whatever he decides from now on he served his country

Carol Vorderman is an Honorary Gp Capt as an Ambassador for the Air Cadets & prances around in the uniform like it's a themed stripper outfit so it's not just the Royal Family that get to play dress up in Military Uniform!

This has really made me laugh 😂

TooHotToTangoToo · 15/09/2022 21:26

Harry is a veteran, he has no military titles or official associations with the uk armed forces, no longer serving, veterans we are allowed to wear medals and berets along with Regimental badges on blazers and wear the corps tie for official occasions including weddings, christenings and funerals. This is why he's not wearing uniform.

I don't know what Andrew is allowed..

OneFrenchEgg · 15/09/2022 21:27

'The (unearned) medals are pathetic. I’m genuinely embarrassed for them. I’ve got a few I earned (nothing too exciting) but seeing Beatrice and Eugenie’s husbands wearing the jubilee medal just cheapened the whole thing. One of my colleagues commented on that, and they’ll never wear theirs. Don’t think I will, nor will my son. We all have others we’ve earned that isn’t given away for marrying someone’s grandchild.'

Thank you for replying - interesting to see I'm not alone. It just makes me cringe a bit seeing them when there are so many people who are serving/have served.

sst1234 · 15/09/2022 21:29

Because Harry is petulant and entitled. Pretending to care about his grandmother, whose institution and name he trashed at every opportunity.

He behaves like a z list celebrity, the Royals should treat him like one.

Does anyone else think the uniforms and badges are a bit weird? Like dress up? (Not for those that actually served in positions, obv)

I completely agree, seems bizarre that the monarch gives them increasingly senior honorary military positions, often as birthday presents. Half the medals are commemorating jubilees. It’s bizarre.

antelopevalley · 15/09/2022 21:33

Because mummy gave Edward medals, and daddy does not want Harry to wear his in public,
The rest is justifications. They do what they want to.

Peapop777 · 15/09/2022 20:56

I care because being stripped of royal duties doesn't mean he didn't serve.
Can you honestly write someone off because of who he is?

But you can’t wear military uniform after you finished serving-unless you’re a really high rank. It’s the same for everyone. The working royals have honorary military titles, and are still serving, if you like, so they can.

You don't have to be in uniform to wear medals

VladmirsPoutine · 15/09/2022 20:31

Because he chose to leave the fold methinks. From what I've read about their military histories only really Harry deserves to wear much if anything at all.

William's contribution...

wonderstuff · 15/09/2022 21:39

Andrew was given permission to wear uniform while guarding the Queen’s coffin but not for other ceremonies.

Towcester · 15/09/2022 21:39

All those medals Edward got in 4 months. Must have been a mental 4 months!

They are Jubilee medals.

Only Andrew and Harry have campaign medals.

Those who serve ❤
Honory titles?? How and Why?

OP posts:
theoriginalteletubby · 15/09/2022 21:46

Ceremonial rather than military duties at the bequest of the monarch. Harry is no longer part of the fold so no longer undertakes ceremonial duties on behalf of the monarch.

Its the old having your cake and eating it issue - he refused the cake when he left/dissed the firm so can no longer eat it.

mpsw · 15/09/2022 21:53

Honorary titles

How - conferred by the monarch qua Commander-in-Chief

Why - to maintain the close relationships between Crown and Forces. Your brothers will be able to explain to you why this matters, as do other things that broadly support the Military Covenant

twilightermummy · 15/09/2022 21:55

I’ve been thinking this also; The only people who seem to really deserve to wear the uniform, can’t! I really do think that it’s jokes seeing the royals in military gear. Some things do need to be questioned but at the minute, people can get arrested for that!

😂 I’m showing my friends and family this one!

anonacfr · 15/09/2022 21:59

Also Harry quit the army- therefore is not supposed to wear his uniform anyway.

HeadNorth · 15/09/2022 22:01

The RF love playing fancy dress with their chocolate medals - pathetic really.

Dodie66 · 15/09/2022 22:04

Just reported that there has been a change of heart and Harry will wear a uniform for the vigil

I posted a link from the Mirror up thread saying that but wasn’t sure it was reliable. ^
