Some people might say she deserved it. Others might disagree.

Some people on here think TWANW. Some corporations might in turn deem that thought as heresy.

Encouraged more and more each day to go digital, paperless and cashless... what are we walking into here?

There was a thread on MN a while ago where something similar happened to the OP.

Banks are a business and can refuse to serve whoever they choose.

Banks are also subject to legislation that means if they are found to be (even unintentionally) funding illegal activities, then they can be held accountable.

TwinGirlsOnTheWay · 15/09/2022 16:32

You only have to read the article to see it's far right propaganda - clearly there was an element of fraud etc., or this would have never happened

Quveas · 15/09/2022 16:33

how come they know so much about her in order to have made that decision ? ... they would have had to have done some serious digging.

She and her compatriots are exceptionally and publicly vocal in their beliefs. It wouldn't take any digging at all. She's been banned by just about everyone and everything - including, and I am very serious about this, Yorkshire Tea. And she and her colleagues have been linked to banned terrorist organisations. The cautionary tale here is "if you want to be treated like a human being, act like one". I'd like to say what I think of her, but I'd be banned for the language, so I will leave it at that.

Would someone like to summarise, because I don't like clicking on random links. Ta.

Far right people, bordering on extremism and terrorism, have been investigated and had their bank accounts closed for these actions

Woman with links to a terror organisation got her bank account suspended

OP seems upset about this

iwantasandwich · 15/09/2022 16:37

@AspireMe

Do you usually have sympathy for terrorists or is this a one off?

AspireMe · 15/09/2022 16:37

beastlyslumber · 15/09/2022 16:05

No, you can't just wipe out someone's bank account because they hold views you dislike. Right now it's happening to people whose views I find appalling. But they could do it to you, too. That's the whole point. Who gets to decide what is an acceptable belief?

Thank you getting what I'm (and the article) is saying. Which is why I specifically mentioned a hot topic on here - TWAW or TWANW. Some people, disproportionately in tech, think that that view (the latter) is "literally killing/erasing millions of people". That sounds like the definition of genocide to me. I wonder how many that have responded so far applauding the actions of the bank agree with the latter example?

Her bank froze her account without explanation, and some weeks later told her she wasn't welcome as a customer and sent her her balance in a cheque. Article accompanied by photo that makes her look like a virginal cutie, and not the rabid right-winger with terrorist connections that she is. I think that covers it all.

Racist far-right nobhead acted in ways consistent with being a racist far-right nobhead, including associated with neo-nazi terrorist organisations. Laws exist that says your assets can be frozen if you are known to be/suspected of funding terrorism. Their assets were frozen. They're being pissy about it because apparently its not far to do that to white people just for having opinions.

OP linked to unHerd which is a serious publication in the same way that Lozza Fox is a serious politician. Also tried to make some weak allusion to transrights and TWAW.

You seriously need to look up what genocide is.

"genocide
/ˈdʒɛnəsʌɪd/

noun
the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group"

@Quveas - That photo is a scene from Black Mirror btw

She had linked to terrorism, the consequences of that is right there in the terms and conditions.

Would you be complaining if this was a brown, Muslim male and not a white woman, who was associating with terrorist organisations..

I recently attended a training session for Prevent. I live in a part of the country where far right terrorism and radicalisation is a serious threat and there were people there who didn't seem to think it's even a problem.

One person (a safe guarding lead ffs) kept banging on about Islamic terror all day, he genuinely acted like it's not possible to be a terrorist if you're white.

WTF do you think any of this gubbins has to do with transrights? Do you think banks will ban people for posting on MN that they think transwomen are/are not women or transmen are/are not men?

Having opinions doesn't get your assets frozen, no matter how hateful those opinions are.

Funding terrorist organisations who literally advocate murdering people who don't agree with your opinions, that will get your assets frozen.

Why is this so difficult to understand?

EmmaH2022 · 15/09/2022 16:44

where's that gif of someone completely missing the point?!

But that is exactly my point. People say that that phrase alone is akin to murdering/erasing people because it means they "think they shouldn't exist". Whether YOU think it's true or not doesn't matter, it's a viewpoint that is agreed on disproportionately on social media and in the tech world, especially.

Fantastic. Now that you have looked it up and know what genocide is, I will explain that this bitch you are defending ADVOCATES genocide. She is not a victim of it.

I'm not defending her - My thread is about sleepwalking into a society dominated by tech with no other options available.

It concerns me. If they wanted to close her account they should have given her the cash from it, there and then.

FarmerRefuted · 15/09/2022 16:59

Except it was cash suspected of funding terrorism so the law says it stays frozen until the investigation concludes.

And the only example you could find for that was of a terrorist?

Nobody, including the OP knows why her account was suspended, but the most likely cause would be an investigation, quite possibly instigated by the government. These types are often investigated because they are criminals / associated with criminals. They are not going to give them money until the investigation is completed. Or would you suggest that we hand over the money of suspected drugs lords so they can hide the proceeds of their crimes? Same rules for everyone.

She had links to a terror group

There are good reasons for banks to hold the funds in cases like this

Quackpot · 15/09/2022 16:59

I was reading that open mouthed in shock until I got to the bit where they tell you she's a complete utter cunt. Never heard of her. Good on the bank though. Serves them all right.

FarmerRefuted · 15/09/2022 17:00

As a PP said, they'd think this was fine if it was a brown person suspected of funding Islamic terrorism. How sad for these white supremacists that they've learned that these laws cut both ways.

No, actually, someone made a thread earlier about being unable to get into her account because the system was down and she couldn't access her money.
Another user joked it would turn into The Handsmaid's Tale soon where "They" could shut down our accounts with a flick of the switch, losing access to all our money and joked we should be warned and aware. I then posted the link because it was directly in response to what the reply was about and said it's already happening.

The replies on that thread understood the dangers of it more than posters on this one.
