I've had to cancel a holiday to repair my car - (was paying monthly) anyhow I phoned the travel agent and asked how much the cancellation charges would be. They said it's £150 per person. Fine £450 in total. Just been refunded now and instead of £2500 I've been given £300! Fuck! I'll be straight on the phone in the morning but fuck!

@bahlong omg the same thing has happened - they must do 2 payments! The £2k has just landed in my account - I've just cried with relief 😂

I'm so relieved for you

Jellywobblescobbles · 13/09/2022 07:38

So glad you got the rest of it, I felt stressed just now reading what had happened. So sorry you had to cancel, hope the kids weren't aware they were going yet too.

Porcupineintherough · 13/09/2022 08:10

@Doingprettywellthanks what sort of travel insurance do you think would cover the OP changing her mind about a holiday so she can fix her car?

Glad it worked out OP. Smile

popcornfrenzy · 13/09/2022 08:25

No, kids didn't know but going to look at booking something for next summer

Echo the post earlier.
Save a buffer if you can for unexpected expenses. Holidays are nice but not being extra able to afford basic repairs aren’t great either.
Really pleased they refunded you.
Hope the rest of the day goes ok despite your lack of sleep.

popcornfrenzy · 13/09/2022 08:34

@Doingprettywellthanks yep had travel insurance but don't think they cover changing mind

I honestly feel sick - I've lost my holiday and also can't afford to get my car fixed either. I know this is a bit of a first world problem but I'm wondering what I've done to deserve everything being thrown at me at the moment.

Wooh! So glad to read your update. What a relief.

On the 'first world problem' thing: it's a first world problem because you live in the 'first world'. It would be a bit nonsensical if you were worrying about third world problems. These are the sorts of problems you get in the first world, it's fine to be upset about them, even if you also recognise that it's a good problem to have lol.

They don’t

but it is intriguing that someone would be prepared enough to buy travel insurance but not to set aside anything for emergencies

No judgement! Just you were savvy enough to buy Travel insurance but not to squirrel anything away for emergencies and now to lose hundreds (albeit better than thousands!)

You easily win the Prize for twattiest post of the day! 🏆

Well done. You’ll need to try harder with your next effort though.

Well fuck me you are delightful aren’t you.

@popcornfrenzy so glad you got your money back! Sorry about your holiday and hopefully keep saving and you can get it next year

shinynewapple22 · 13/09/2022 09:05

Could it be that as you have paid in instalments that is how the refund is coming- and the other refunds will show up later?

shinynewapple22 · 13/09/2022 09:08

Oh - should have read to the end . Glad you got all your money back OP . It's a shame though. Hope you'll be able to go next year .

CharlotteRose90 · 13/09/2022 02:04

Was the whole package with jet 2 so flights and hotel etc? If not I think you’ll have to claim on your insurance and you’ll only get the remainder of hotel paid. I used to work for Jet2 and they definitely are a none refundable airline but if the holidays fully booked through them you may have a chance.

What is there to claim on insurance? Changing your mind isn't an insurable event.

JoeyThePrawn · 13/09/2022 09:16

Funking hell, what a relief
I felt sick for you there

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 13/09/2022 09:25

I'd be tempted to keep it, but then I'm a bit of a twonk. Grin

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 13/09/2022 09:27

Oh ignore me! I read it as you being given £2500 when it should have been a few hundred. Sorry. Blush

ancientgran · 13/09/2022 10:02

So pleased for you. I felt panic reading it, don't know how you coped.

@Doingprettywellthanks

just stop it. It IS judgemental as well as snarky.

And before you start, I've been on Mumsnet practically from when it first started.

@popcornfrenzy ☕️ ☕️

I'm glad you got the money back & putting that money into a savings account each month will be good.

sorry about your Lapland holiday though, however, very mixed reviews on the experience, a summer holiday will be better value for money IMO.

popcornfrenzy · 13/09/2022 10:09

@TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination funny you should say that - in between cleaning and trying to sleep I looked at the reviews and 80% were quite bad! Maybe a blessing in disguise.

This will go down like a lead balloon…

but you didn’t check out the reviews before you booked?

fruitbrewhaha · 13/09/2022 10:29

I'm glad you've got the money OP, but you would probably have less sleepless nights if you have a bit of a savings fund for emergencies. Stop booking holidays until you can afford them. £450 is a lot of money.
