Yes, sofas and beds, no smells here since we regularly wash our items…

Marshmallowmountain · 11/09/2022 08:03

@PatientlyWaiting21 With all due respect (and two dogs myself)…I think someone without animals would definitely be able to smell the dogs on the furniture even if you regularly wash things

DancingBudgie · 11/09/2022 08:07

No, mine aren't allowed on any furniture at all, nor allowed in bedrooms.

LesOliviers · 11/09/2022 08:13

My greyhound is a very good girl. They're know as sofa hoggers but she will only come onto the sofa if invited. She usually has an hour on it each night with me, when DH goes up to bed.

startfresh · 11/09/2022 08:27

Yes, he's my family and is allowed to be comfortable in his home. I usually move if I'm in his spot and he looks at me.

123ROLO · 11/09/2022 08:31

Yes

Constantly wiping muddy marks off and hoovering off hair, and our settee will probably need replacing sooner (we try using throws but he pulls them off), and bedding changed more frequently than we otherwise would. But my dogs comfort and feeling like part of the family is more important to me than my settee looking pristine.

SardineStitches · 11/09/2022 10:52

Yes.
This is their house/home too.

Soubriquet · 11/09/2022 10:53

Yes. Not only that, my two have their own spot on the sofa!

inmyslippers · 11/09/2022 10:53

No but I have a cat who has decided differently and who am I to tell her otherwise

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 11/09/2022 10:55

Def not.

MassiveSalad22 · 11/09/2022 10:55

No, because they have been walking around on the road/mud etc and are hairy and slobbery. Just like I don’t allow shoes on my sofa. If I had a dog I’m sure I would allow it on my sofas, but I don’t have a dog because they are muddy/hairy/slobbery.

FourChimneys · 11/09/2022 10:56

I don't allow dogs in my house or garden.

ManateeFair · 11/09/2022 10:57

Boujisboo · 10/09/2022 22:43

What would you do if one was peeing all over the sofa ?

House-train him.

TheFlis12345 · 11/09/2022 11:00

He is allowed on one of the sofas that is always covered in throws which are frequently washed. He isn’t allowed on the sitting room sofas, when we ordered new ones we trained him not to get up on the old ones so he doesn’t try with the new ones. He is also trained not to go upstairs so beds aren’t an issue.

AlwaysGinPlease · 11/09/2022 11:02

With blankets. They're family members. Why have pets if you ban them from everything.

Simonjt · 11/09/2022 11:02

Yes, because the heirachy in this home is cat, dog, children, husband, me.

The only place the dog isn’t allowed is on my sons bed and in our bed if the baby is in bed. The dog is quite good and will only get on the bed if we give him the command to.

Alfr · 11/09/2022 11:03

Dogs were never allowed on the furniture when I was growing up, and I never intended to let my own dog on the furniture.
Apparently that rule doesn't apply to elderly Irish Setters..

Munchyseeds2 · 11/09/2022 11:04

Yes to both bed and sofa, we use throws and she has a regular bath
Had an estate agent round the other week who commented (unprompted) that there is no smell of dog

Brighteyedtriangle · 11/09/2022 11:06

I had a no sofa and no going upstairs policy for years but she was cheeky and got on sofa for cuddles at night sometimes which i allowed and sometimes encouraged haha

Shes old now and went through abit of nighttime anxiety stage and would literally break the baby gate down to get upstairs in the middle of the night. After weeks of fighting it shes now allowed upstairs because Ive got no energy anymore. She won

mum333 · 11/09/2022 11:09

Yes.
Dog and cat have free run of the entire house. Both have beds of their own, but are rarely used by them 🤦🏽‍♀️.

Whokno · 11/09/2022 11:30

No, he was but he started resource guarding the sofa and growling at the children, so now it's a complete ban and we've made his bed a lovely place to be for him, where treats magically appear.

Stomacharmeleon · 11/09/2022 12:07

longtompot · 11/09/2022 12:19

Yes, but she was taught to get down when asked. She also isn't allowed to jump up when she is wet, she has a special bed for that (an old bath mat sewn over an old pillow) but she does try to, the sneaky spaniel 😉

Rosesandstars · 11/09/2022 12:36

Only the sofa and only when she's dry. I think allowing pets on the bed is too unhygienic as you'll like ingest bacteria from loose hairs, slobber and even small quantities of dried faeces from their fur.

We kept previous dogs off the sofa but have throws on now for our lovely golden retriever and as she's getting a bit arthritic, I'm very glad she can be on the comfy sofa for a pat.

My call would be to keep the puppy off until toilet trained and then allow them up.

LimeTwists · 11/09/2022 12:40

They are allowed on the sofa which is covered in machine washable blankets. Absolutely not on the beds. Their paws have been outside in the dirt, they shed hair and their bums sometimes get dangle berries. I find the idea of dogs in / on beds pretty horrible unless they went to the groomer that day! I love them dearly but they have their own beds and when the covers go in the wash each week the water coming off them is bloody filthy!
