Yuk no.Ddog is only allowed in the main lounge if we are there and has his own bed. In the dining room there is an old sofa he can sleep on . Not allowed in my bedroom at all but teenage DS allows him to sleep in his . Ddog snores and shuffles and though he does not moult he smells.

The reason I ask is as I have a 2 year old
dog and a 16 week old. Always enjoyed cuddles on sofa with my dog he loves to lay and sleep there. My little puppy on the other hand decides that’s the place he wants to pee!
aibu to allow one on sofa and the other not? Seems unfair and inconsistent but for my 2 year old dog he’s never been a problem!

Well you just need go work on your toilet training! It is nothing to do with your policy of on/ off sofa.

Sprogletsmum2 · 11/09/2022 02:11

There is no dog bed in this house, they sleep on the sofa

Cameleongirl · 11/09/2022 02:11

We bought a faux leather sofa specifically so that grubby children and dogs could sit on it and

Cameleongirl · 11/09/2022 02:13

I hate the thing, but it’s easy to wipe down. Our dog isn’t allowed to sit or lie on any other furniture. He loves going under beds anyway, we have wooden floors and I think he finds them cooler.

CaptainBarbosa · 11/09/2022 02:19

No,

A) he's a 50kg mastiff if he got on the sofa and spread out there would be no room for me 😂

B) I don't want dog hair and slobber on the sofa. I vacuum the floor daily, I don't need to be vacuuming the sofa too daily.

He has a lovely dog bed, that is soft and comfortable for him to sleep and relax in on the floor.

Vegay · 11/09/2022 02:39

Yes, and the bed 😁

Vegay · 11/09/2022 02:43

@CaptainBarbosa omg, you need to be sitting on the floor to accommodate your mastiff 🤣. Such amazing beautiful dogs.

Blizzardbeach · 11/09/2022 02:55

I do, and its the worst thing I think I've ever done.
It didn't bother me too much, until I recently had a baby, and because the dogs on the bed, on the sofa, even climbs up on the velvet chairs at the table, I literally spend my life hoovering, unless I want the baby covered in dog hair.
Soon after the baby was born, I found hair not only on him, but hair had come off of me and into his cot. The same was happening with his pram too.

My bedding needs changing every other day, and tbh it's really hard to not smell like dog when they lounge about where you sit/lay. It takes a copious amount of febreeze and frequent washing of everything. Ugh its exhausting.
Working on getting the dog to learn his place

TiddyTidTwo · 11/09/2022 02:58

Yes currently sharing my bed with my deerhound/lurcher and cat. They can go wherever they like and I love them near me

He secretly wants this to happen! 😂

I adore him though, he is my baby, he is spoilt in other ways he gets the odd baybybel as a treat, or a slice of ham from the fridge every time I open it.

He's the most gentle and softest of animals, we have a cat also, and when the cat was a kitten he would pick him up by the scruff and carry him to his bed with him. The kitten was often covered in slobber. They both now sleep in the bed together, curl up together on the floor. He has always treated the cat as his own and is wonderful with him.

And my son is a only child, and the dog is his best friend. He will sit next to DS on the floor, watch TV with him (if animals are on the TV). DS often drapes over him or cuddles up to him whilst he plays Lego. The mastiff is always an acommodating play mate, weather it's football in the garden or action figures on the floor. They are inseparable. DS also dresses him up from time to time. 😂

Ed is our latest. He's a 9 month old staffy cross and he is chewing his way through our house 😅. We are his third home, and it will be the last home he lives in. We knew that things would be chewed and destroyed, I didn't realise it would be to the extent it is lol, but he's a baby who has been passed from pillar to post, and he's seen more malevolence in his life than I ever have. It just takes time and patience. I won't be getting a new couch or furniture for a few years, put it that way 😂.

The peeing on the couch, the pup obviously needs more house training - you shouldn't not allow your other dog to get up though. That wouldn't be fair.

StoppinBy · 11/09/2022 05:16

By invitation only, however she does sneak off to the kids beds in the middle of the night sometimes which I turn a blind eye to.

Try this group for some ideas on ways to let out his destructiveness in more appropriate ways :-) Great page, lots of fun ideas for doggies.

Leonberger · 11/09/2022 06:19

Ours don’t get on the furniture. If you’ve seen a leonberger you’ll know why…but we have small children too and it’s easier to monitor everyone if the children are up and the dogs down 😄

I don’t think it makes them any less loved or part of the family personally.

WonkasBooboofixer · 11/09/2022 06:21

No sofa no bed. Why because they're huge and there wouldnt be room for me to sit/sleep

Mumofsend · 11/09/2022 07:03

I swore no when we got him.. he's currently flat on his back, goods on show, paws in the air on the sofa. My no worked well!

gogohmm · 11/09/2022 07:05

No, I don't like sitting on pet hair. The cat disagrees and get on it when I'm out, she thinks I don't notice Hmm. (Shutting the door doesn't help because the other residents seem incapable of closing doors)

hattie43 · 11/09/2022 07:07

Yes they go where the like , sofa , beds and then they have their own beds . Not a problem , I put throws everywhere.

EcoCustard · 11/09/2022 07:12

Two dogs they both sit & sleep on the sofa with me or the kids. They used to sleep on the bed with me but stopped when I had first Dc 7 years ago. One sleeps on the sofa at night the other has his armchair in front of our stove 😁. One does jump up & sit on the table or wooden chest if we are out, whilst the other sits on the back of the chair and watches the world. The postman (ex colleague) sent me a picture of them as I had no clue!

Isthisexpected · 11/09/2022 07:15

I never have no because they are not people. Sofas are for people. Not animals (who don't wear shoes/wellies, use toilet paper, wash their hands and generally avoid rolling around in fox poo). I find if go to someone's house and the dogs are allowed on the furniture there is smell and the person has to say where I can sit so I don't get covered in fur. Just a disgusting way of living to me

LadyCatStark · 11/09/2022 07:20

Nope 😂 officially DH is adamant he’s not allowed on but I can’t resist, he’s so cuddly. He now knows that he’s allowed on when it’s just the 2 of us but not when DH is here 😂.

Saucery · 11/09/2022 07:24

Yes, allowed on all furniture downstairs, but bedtime is in own crate in kitchen (crate not shut). Not allowed upstairs because our stairs are steep and it wouldn’t have been good for her joints to be going up and down as a puppy. It will also be difficult when she old - I would hate for her not to be able to get upstairs if she had become used to it and she is too big to carry.

EbbyEbs · 11/09/2022 07:25

WhatIsThisMad · 10/09/2022 22:19

No because you end up posting "what is this smell???" On Mumsnet

I feel attacked 😂

EbbyEbs · 11/09/2022 07:26

Yes I do with my current dogs but I probably wouldn’t next time.
Mostly because of the hair/small but also because when guests come over, not everyone likes having a big dog in their face clambering all over them.
