To be furious with Lloyds online banking?

Keyansier · 09/09/2022 18:09

I logged onto my internet banking with Lloyds Bank and upon signing in was greeted with a message about The Queen passing away and giving solitude to Lloyds bank customers. Erm, does anyone else think that this is slightly WTF territory? How dare they assume their customers feelings? AIBU to think banks should not be giving out political messages like this? It's okay to say if they are sorry for someone dying, I'm not expecting them to be someone's pro-death, but AIBU to think they should stay out of giving what might be seen as provocative statements like this to people that may be against the idea of the Royal Family?

I don't have a message when I log on. Sad times Sad
Maybe it's because I'm overdrawn. I'm too poor for the message. Wink

I hope the OP doesn't shop online with Joules. They've got a lovely statement on their page. I find it dumbfounding that you can be "angry" with anybody sharing their condolences.

Are you able to read? Did you read my OP?

"I find it dumbfounding that you can be "angry" with anybody sharing their condolences."

I literally said the opposite of this in my OP:

It's okay to say if they are sorry for someone dying

Gosh, i'm sorry, I am personally dumbfounded myself at the responses I've received so far, I shan't bother no longer with this thread and after these replies, might second guess even considering bothering to reply to anything on a general level.

YABU, across the board. You asked the question.

Your fuming because they are paying respect to a 96 year old who died??
Have you always been a complete idiot?

Maybe you're the idiot.

A lot of privileged idiots on this thread who don't realize that the queen might have been a positive image to some, but ask people from other countries colonized by Britain how they feel about the British monarchy.

A family who has exploited people and nations, stolen wealth, shielded a peadophile. Not much to be proud of and people are allowed to have conflicting feelings on the death of someone who was the proud ambassador of all the negative things that were a result of the royal family.

Luckily, your rant is superceded by what organisations feel by doing the decent thing. They can't all be wrong.

Sure they can. For starters, most of these companies are just using her death to plaster their logos and branding all over the social media & website messages to customers.

It's just more advertising. And you fell for it. Congratulations.

The OP logged onto the website in question. What are they meant to be advertising?

Advertising/marketing isn't just billboards and paid ads.

Branding and using her image to gain positive sentiment from customers is a cheap tactic.

It obviously works because the British public loves it but it's hardly done for the right reasons. These companies care about profit not your feelings.

@Miajk . She was the Head of State. You really are overreaching to make this about marketing ploys.

Just providing info as someone who works on the industry and understands that brands will take any opportunity to jump in on something and be relevant.

You're the one who decided that my "rant" about some important issues surrounding the monarchy is invalid because private companies aiming to make money are all praising the queen.

They are because they know people will fall for it. You included.

KeyboardCat · 10/09/2022 00:12

I think it's remarkably overwhelming for a lot of people - The Queen was one of the most famous people in the world, and her death is pretty much the biggest death that could have happened in the UK.

It may seem a bit much to have so much outpouring of grief, but she was an inspiration to many - I never had much interest in the Royal Family but I have been in tears several times over the news (especially watching Huw Edwards' announcement followed by the national anthem). When you think of Britain you think of The Queen, and now everything is changing and it's a bit scary.

So I can understand you having a strong reaction to this, especially if you're not much of an online person (I have had emails from my contact lens company and others!) It will seem odd that all companies are putting up announcements, but she was the most important person in the country, and it's very sad she's died. We are grieving as a nation overall, despite individual opinions.

I haven't fallen for anything, so don't be concerned about that.

@Keyansier She banked with Coutts, which is part of NatWest.

And yet natwest haven't said anything as far as I know. Ingrates! 😂

‘Assume your feelings’

Whatever your personal views of the monarchy it’s a fact that she was our head of state and served for many many years. It’s appropriate to recognise this. It’s not a political statement.

This^

Bullshit.

Boreded · 10/09/2022 01:33

@Keyansier best Friday Flounce I’ve seen in a while…thanks for the entertainment, shame you gave away your true persona when you opted for the mumsnet favourite ‘dominos is disgusting’ haha 😂 too much of a cliche for this to be real, just an aim for the classics or the daily mail.

@mnhq maybe this one isn’t worth having around anymore???

onlythreenow · 10/09/2022 01:38

You are being beyond ridiculous! Just get on with your online banking and don't give it a second thought. Honestly, "furious" - get a grip!

apintortwo · 10/09/2022 01:55

Given that we have to tolerate banks jumping on the political woke bandwagon while they advertise and conduct business, YABU.

Showing respect at this time is a decent gesture and something I would expect TBH

lickenchugget · 10/09/2022 06:03

‘Furious’ 🤣🤣🤣
