Phillip came to me today,

and said it was time to go.

I looked at him and smiled,
as i whispered that "I know"

I then turned and looked behind me,

and saw I was asleep.

All my Family were around me,

and I could hear them weep.

I gently touched each shoulder,

with Phillip by my side.

Then I turned away and walked,

with My Angel guide.

Phillip held my hand,

as he lead the way,

to a world where King's and Queens,

are Monarch's every day.

I was
given a crown to wear
or a Halo known by some.

The difference is up here,

they are worn by everyone.

I felt a sense of peace,

my reign had seen its end.

70 years I had served my Country,

as the peoples friend.

Thank you for the years,

for all your time and love.

Now I am one of two again,

in our Palace up above.

I saw it on Facebook and loved it but only seen hate for it on mumsnet :( I think it’s beautiful ❤️

It's all over Facebook and tons of people seem to love it. Not me.

The version I read even said "seen I was asleep"

Not to mention the greengrocers apostrophes everywhere and the random capitalisation 😱

Sparklingbrook · 09/09/2022 19:06

I hope Dave Grohl is somewhere having a big lie down after last weekend. He would probably like the poem though he likes everything. 😁

Gingerwarthog · 09/09/2022 19:07

Lovely bloke.

Lovely bloke.

He’s had such a bad year. ☹️

Gingerwarthog · 09/09/2022 19:13

I think we've derailed the thread Brook x

Whoever desecrated this nice picture needs a good talking to.

Whoops. Back to the awful poem it is. Grin

Gingerwarthog · 09/09/2022 19:21

His book was great too....

LaPerduta · 09/09/2022 19:29

I know I'm only echoing hundreds of PPs, but it's truly AWFUL. Doggerel of the worst form. Corgi-gerel, perhaps.

80sMum · 09/09/2022 19:38

Oh dear! I understand the sentiment, but if I'd written anything like that I would be too embarrassed to share it with anyone. It's way too sentimental and flowery and a bit silly and fanciful.
Perhaps it was written by a child, though? That would make sense - for a child's poem, it's good.

His book was great too....

And his Mum’s 😁

Gingerwarthog · 09/09/2022 19:47

Oo just googled that one. On the list! Cheers.

thinkfast · 09/09/2022 20:08

Cringe. I died a bit reading that. Awful. Just awful.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 09/09/2022 20:26

I'm not sure about 'a world where kings and queens are monarchs every day'.

Given that QE didn't have much of a retirement, a world where kings and queens don't have to be monarchs every day might appeal more.

I'd like some of the corgis to have made an appearance too.

That said, I do appreciate the thought put into crafting this poem.

DillDanding · 09/09/2022 21:24

I’ve just seen that a friend of mine posted this diabolical dirge on FB yesterday.

so now I have to un-friend her 😂

whumpthereitis · 09/09/2022 23:17

Bet the bear’s a bit pissed too, minding his business and suddenly being exposed as the Grim fucking Reaper.

”And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Paddington”

WavePlant · 09/09/2022 23:20

Glad I’m not the only one who felt this was really bad! Hate the “seen i was asleep” but on Facebook copies

PinotPony · 09/09/2022 23:33

God help us, there's a follow up poem...

Yesterday I wrote a poem,
for all the world to see.
It was about a Mother and GrandMother,
and the head of the Royal Family.

I had never met this lady,
yet with the news I shed some tears.
I thought about her Children,
and all her living years.

As the world joined In mourning,
I brought Philip back to life.
He had travelled down from Heaven,
to come and Guide his wife.

Today my poem went viral.
People turned it to their own.
A Family is out there grieving,
no sympathy is shown.

I wrote a painted picture,
of a visiting place for all.
Of a loving Husband and his wife,
who answered to God's call.

He lead her up a stairway,
to a palace in the sky.
Where the Queen could be herself,
just like you and I.
J. Boyle.

🤮🤮🤮

Please say you made this up as a clever satire @PinotPony Please.

If not, J. Boyle should be stopped, by any means necessary.

A Family is out there grieving,

no sympathy is shown

No sympathy is shown? Confused

The television has been showing wall-to-wall sympathisers!

Even the organisation 'Republic' has temporarily suspended campaigning out of respect for the family!
.

William McGonagall has a rival.

This is an extremely valid point. I'm not sensing the lack of sympathy from most quarters.

Antarcticant · 10/09/2022 00:03

I do suspect 'J Boyle' is taking the piss, actually. We'll know because if there's a third 'poem', J Boyle will likely jump the shark.

The Second is even Worse than the First (random capitalisation intentional).
