To like this poem about the Queen

Phillip came to me today,

and said it was time to go.

I looked at him and smiled,
as i whispered that "I know"

I then turned and looked behind me,

and saw I was asleep.

All my Family were around me,

and I could hear them weep.

I gently touched each shoulder,

with Phillip by my side.

Then I turned away and walked,

with My Angel guide.

Phillip held my hand,

as he lead the way,

to a world where King's and Queens,

are Monarch's every day.

I was
given a crown to wear
or a Halo known by some.

The difference is up here,

they are worn by everyone.

I felt a sense of peace,

my reign had seen its end.

70 years I had served my Country,

as the peoples friend.

Thank you for the years,

for all your time and love.

Now I am one of two again,

in our Palace up above.

I saw it on Facebook and loved it but only seen hate for it on mumsnet :( I think it’s beautiful ❤️

I did actually find the comment asking if it was a Ryan Giggs special rather hilarious

Giggsy's would surely be:
Q is for Quick (you left us so quickly)
U is for Unique
E is for everlasting
E is for eternal
N is for never forgotten

😂

Ohh yes. Don't I know it!

PinotPony · 09/09/2022 16:28

I can't get past the bad grammar. It makes my teeth itch!

All the people I've seen sharing it are kind hearted, good natured people who aren't brilliant at expressing themselves and haven't had certain advantages that some other people have had.

It's a terrible poem but it doesn't follow that anyone who likes it is a terrible person.

Yes but we don't actually need to hear everyone's opinions on everything all the time. It's like some people think 'something big has happened, I must comment on it' but they have nothing to actually say so they share this poem instead.

DemBonesDemBones · 09/09/2022 16:34

It's mawkish. I wish people would stop sharing nonsense like this.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 09/09/2022 16:49

It says more about the person who wrote it (and those who share it) than about the queen or about death.

There is no harm in writing to express yourself nor in reading what is comforting to you.

However - it does make my teeth ache and I wish you hadn't shared it with me :) .

soulinablackberrypie · 09/09/2022 17:10

It's not my thing, but the misspelling of the Duke's name annoys me more than the sentimentality. What next - Elizzabeth?

CPL593H · 09/09/2022 17:23

It's mawkish doggerel and I don't imagine Simon Armitage is too worried about being upstaged, but it is of the moment and essentially harmless.

Yes but we don't actually need to hear everyone's opinions on everything all the time. It's like some people think 'something big has happened, I must comment on it' but they have nothing to actually say so they share this poem instead.

What they have to say is what the poem expresses for them.

If you don't want to see what people are sharing, don't look at social media. Is your post here so immensely valuable?

Azerothi · 09/09/2022 18:00

I wonder what the Queen would have thought about that illiterate crap.

It's a terrible poem but I'm torn between that and that dreadful 'hello again Lilibet' drawing that's circulating (where Phillip weirdly also has a full head of white hair), as to which is worse. It's infantilising someone who was a strong woman.

I thought that was supposed to be the Queen Mother. The white hair, I mean?

It's a terrible poem. I'm embarrassed for the queen even though she's dead and doesn't have to read it. It's just awful. And the Paddington stuff and that drawing.
But each to their own.Just wish they wouldn't plaster it all over public Facebook.

Octomore · 09/09/2022 18:07

Thankfully my FB friends haven't shared any of this shite! 😂

Hugasauras · 09/09/2022 18:09

Awful twee maudlin nonsense.

RainydaysandFridays · 09/09/2022 18:12

That is truly awful.

MsTSwift · 09/09/2022 18:13

A friend shared it and sad to admit made me think a little less of her!

Veeragall · 09/09/2022 18:13

It's absolutely awful. I've been amazed by some of the people who have shared it.

Philip isn't even spelled correctly.

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 09/09/2022 18:18

Utterly dreadful, and I'd secretly judge anyone who liked or shared it.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 09/09/2022 18:18

It is mawkish, sentimental doggerel. Absolute tripe.

Littleoakhorn · 09/09/2022 18:43

This thread has really cheered me up.

Gingerwarthog · 09/09/2022 18:43

Hi OP.
I'm with Dave Grohl - there are no 'guilty pleasures'. If you like something, like it.
If that poem touches you or means something to you that's all that matters. X

I thought that at first too but actually upon closer inspection I think it's Phil.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 09/09/2022 18:51

Yes very unreasonable it is dreadful

Bloody hell, I was jealous when I read that you were with Dave Grohl!

Gingerwarthog · 09/09/2022 19:01

I wish!
