Phillip came to me today,

and said it was time to go.

I looked at him and smiled,
as i whispered that "I know"

I then turned and looked behind me,

and saw I was asleep.

All my Family were around me,

and I could hear them weep.

I gently touched each shoulder,

with Phillip by my side.

Then I turned away and walked,

with My Angel guide.

Phillip held my hand,

as he lead the way,

to a world where King's and Queens,

are Monarch's every day.

I was
given a crown to wear
or a Halo known by some.

The difference is up here,

they are worn by everyone.

I felt a sense of peace,

my reign had seen its end.

70 years I had served my Country,

as the peoples friend.

Thank you for the years,

for all your time and love.

Now I am one of two again,

in our Palace up above.

I saw it on Facebook and loved it but only seen hate for it on mumsnet :( I think it’s beautiful ❤️

This must be a joke! The random capitals set my teeth on edge

Gufo · 10/09/2022 07:14

It's dreadful - both in its structure and sentiment. The Queen would have hated it, I am sure.

pompomdaisy · 10/09/2022 07:21

I'm sick of seeing on my Facebook feed! It's not great tbh but if that's your taste then that's fine too.

NinHuguenAndTheHuguenNotes · 10/09/2022 07:48

Jaysus, that follow up poem is truly awful. Barfing your thoughts onto a page and making them rhyme isn't poetry.

WoodlandMummy · 10/09/2022 08:02

😱 my toes will never uncurl from reading this horror. Utter, utter obsequious nonsense and drivel.

Sinthie · 10/09/2022 08:08

It’s pretty bad in terms of poetic form and content imo.
But each to their own.

Sparklingbrook · 10/09/2022 08:25

OMG the follow up poem. Like we needed another. It's put me right off my Sugar Puffs this morning.

And a third poem ... although I'll put my hard hat on and say I quite like this one

Paddington sat down sadly
On a green and quiet glade
And pulled a sandwich from his little hat
Made With the nicest marmalade
He had heard sad news this very day
That the Queen's life had come to an end
He cried because that day they met

She had become his bestest friend
They had shared some tea
That very day when to the Palace he had been invited
He remembered he could hardly speak
He was so very very excited
He offered her his sandwich
Made with such love and care
She smiled at him and with a grin
She showed that little bear
That inside of her handbag
There was something she had made
And that She too kept a special sandwich
Made of the finest marmalade
Although he was just a little bear
And she a regal queen
Watching her take that sandwich out her bag
Was the best thing he had seen
He wondered if any body else would miss her
Now that she had gone
And his heart was filled up to the brim
When he turned his little phone on
He saw that Facebook had been flooded
With her pictures old and new
And that he himself that little bear
Was also in them too
Although today he is the saddest
That he has ever been
He will always lovingly remember
The day he had tea with the Queen..

Gingerwarthog · 10/09/2022 10:24

Like that - would use it with small kids to explain what happened.

God help us, there's a follow up poem...

Yesterday I wrote a poem,
for all the world to see.
It was about a Mother and GrandMother,
and the head of the Royal Family.

I had never met this lady,
yet with the news I shed some tears.
I thought about her Children,
and all her living years.

As the world joined In mourning,
I brought Philip back to life.
He had travelled down from Heaven,
to come and Guide his wife.

Today my poem went viral.
People turned it to their own.
A Family is out there grieving,
no sympathy is shown.

I wrote a painted picture,
of a visiting place for all.
Of a loving Husband and his wife,
who answered to God's call.

He lead her up a stairway,
to a palace in the sky.
Where the Queen could be herself,
just like you and I.
J. Boyle.

🤮🤮🤮

Worthy of William McGonnagall himself!

“And on day kids, Paddington will come to collect your soul too”

Hugasauras · 10/09/2022 11:17

J Boyle, if you're on here, please stop. This is a sad enough time as it is.

PortalooSunset · 10/09/2022 11:34

The spurious apostrophe annoys me but it's quite sweet otherwise.

AuxArmesCitoyens · 10/09/2022 11:36

Proof of alien life at last. It can only have been written by a Vogon.

Gingerwarthog · 10/09/2022 11:46

@whumpthereitis
Think I'd prefer him to the Grim Reaper!

Paddington has caught up with the times then with his own smartphone and Facebook account!

Think I'd prefer him to the Grim Reaper!

Bet they’ve been one and the same all along.

whumpthereitis · 10/09/2022 12:01

I’m wondering if ‘J Boyle’ is actually Ryan Giggs trying to redeem himself under a pen name.

Gingerwarthog · 10/09/2022 12:01

@whumpthereitis
I find that oddly comforting! X

Gingerwarthog · 10/09/2022 12:02

Not the Ryan Giggs thing!!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 10/09/2022 12:10

What is a 'regal queen' - is that to distinguish from RuPaul and friends?

Trying to be kind, I'm reminded of the old quote (was it one of the Mitfords?) about 'for those who like this sort of thing, this is exactly the sort of thing that they will like'. Suffice to say, I personally am not one of 'those'.

I will add, though, that so many people seem to think that assembling semi-random words in any kind of form makes a 'poem'. I'm not convinced that these same people would be happy to pay for a big loose pile of assorted bits of wood if they had commissioned a carpenter to make them a solid dining table.

Antarcticant · 10/09/2022 12:15

What is a 'regal queen'

Well, obviously, a regal queen is a queen who goes around in a really regal sort of way. As opposed to a not-very-regal queen who goes round in ripped jeans and a stained t-shirt with a fag hanging out of her mouth. Grin
