Have the 7 arrived at Balmoral yet?

Same! I'm no royalist etc but actually feel rather close to tears!

Same here and so are a couple of my friends, we are all late 60s so she's been all we've known for such a long time. 😥

BBC presenter has just said that the energy crisis /energy bill was insignificant compared to the queen's health. 🤔🤨

People need to get this into perspective. It's sad (as I said earlier) but she's a public figure who most of us have never met and has very little impact on our lives.

I know this is a difficult time for people who are going through this personally or are mourning loved ones and I send you strength.

And no, I wasn't actually watching the news for updates.

Did they really say that?! Jesus Christ!

LouisCatorze · 08/09/2022 17:06

@tactum the 'dear brother' (works in broadcasting/journalism) of one of the previous posters.

ThickCutSteakChips · 08/09/2022 17:06

Surely she has either already died, or they know she is in her final few hours, perhaps has already had a stroke or something? Otherwise they wouldn't be having this rolling coverage on the telly, they can't keep this going for potentially days can they?

Willbe2under2 · 08/09/2022 17:02

It feels surreal, just the longevity. I realised earlier that my DD (aged 1) shares a monarch with her great great great grandparents. The baby I'm currently carrying (due next spring) is likely to be born under a King.

Many people will have only lived through one - the Queens - Coronation I guess whereas my kids will live through Charles, Williams and George's! Possibly even George's first born

Will all schools and shops close on the day of the funeral ?
A previous poster mentioned this above , I had never heard of this part of the protocol before ?

Shops were closed for Dianas funeral.

Yes. But it was only four - William, Edward, Sophie and Andrew. Harry making his own way there.

TheKeatingFive · 08/09/2022 17:06

Why they are so intent on harping on about Meghan is mystifying

And then they'll start the complaints about it 'all being about Meghan'

You couldn't make this shit up.

I hope she doesn't stand too close to a window again this time. She'll get lynched.

chatterbug22 · 08/09/2022 17:07

Is it just me or does anyone else think the current news presenter sounds very sad and like he’s struggling to speak?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/09/2022 17:07

The royal party have just arrived at Balmoral. Nobody knows where Harry is.

Diana's funeral was on a Saturday. It wasn't a Bank Holiday but I think many shops felt it was a waste of time opening as so many people would be glued to the TV coverage.

Yes!!! Glad I'm not the only one who noticed!

TheKeatingFive · 08/09/2022 17:07

Quite. An announcement is imminent

On BBC? I think it's more that hes struggling for something to fill time with!

SleepingStandingUp · 08/09/2022 17:08

spoonielife95 · 08/09/2022 17:01

Given how traumatic Diana’s funeral was and her children were older… do you think the Cambridge’s children will attend the funeral when she does pass away? I can’t imagine W & K wanting to expose their children to howling and hysterical people like how it was for W & H when they were kids…

I suspect the older two, but perhaps not the procession etc, brought in out of the way along with Peter and Zara's girls.

Yes, a couple of minutes ago he looked down like he was reading and then his demeanour changed.

IHateWasps · 08/09/2022 17:08

BBC presenter has just said that the energy crisis /energy bill was insignificant compared to the queen's health.

Seriously? WTAF. Heads should roll over that.

funnelfanjo · 08/09/2022 17:08

What a ridiculous palaver. The country is on its knees and they're concerned with these silly rituals.

@ChagSameachDoreen generally people take comfort from the structure of rituals at times like this. It also protects the message that while the Head of State has changed, the country carries on as it always has. Very in keeping with Her Majesty’s reign.

I find bereavement a strange state where time rushes past if you are occupied by stuff like the sadmin, ringing extended family and friends, and organising the funeral. And at quiet moments it feels like the clock has stopped and will never start again. I think having a well organised and rehearsed plan will provide structure and stability in the eventual event of HM’s passing. It will provide a framework for both the private grief of her family, and also for the public, and the authorities to manage the public emotions.

I remember the strange days following Diana’s death. I think the emotion will be just as widespread and deep, but more contained as people mark the passing of an old lady who has lived a long and interesting life (and not the shock of a violent sudden death of a relatively young woman).

abovedecknotbelow · 08/09/2022 17:08

They're all in black, must be an announcement.

roratone · 08/09/2022 17:08

@chatterbug22 Yes - he seemed to be reading something. Voice went all wobbly and he was terribly distracted

spoonielife95 · 08/09/2022 17:08

@Tierne yes but normally children don’t have to be subjected to thousands of people crying hysterically, howling - William has commented on how it made him feel hearing ‘strangers’ doing that at his mother’s funeral… so it won’t be nice for the children given they are much younger…

you can tell that they already know on the BBC and what’s happened because they are really struggling with knowing what to say now and keeping composure… it’s like they are just trying to bide time

tactum · 08/09/2022 17:08

God Clive Myrie seems to be in a bit of a state

Vapeyvapevape · 08/09/2022 17:08

Everyone has a different perspective and so this will affect some more than others. There's no right or wrong way to feel .and everyone has a right to their own feelings .

jennakong · 08/09/2022 17:08

Strange that William and Edward both travelled in the same plane. They are the closest adult heirs to the throne after Charles - Andy and Harry are both out of the picture, I'd imagine.

Saucery · 08/09/2022 17:09

I think it’s a case of Clive Myrie not being as good at smooth waffle and filler as Huw Edwards. Although I do prefer CM as a news presenter.
