If the worst has happened, or happens tonight, would national sporting events be cancelled tomorrow? I think they would be (and should be) but DH not so sure.

Why should they be cancelled.

If she sadly passes, will they stick the announcement on Buckingham Palace gates first?

No - these things are done with military precision. There will be an announcement and it will be simultaneously announced.

TwinGirlsOnTheWay · 08/09/2022 17:13

CrabbitBastard · 08/09/2022 17:12

wonder if there will be an announcment at 6pm?

Otherwise, something has happened (like a stroke) and she won't be recovering.

I can't imagine it'll be anything that there's a possibility of recovery, after all this? It'll be the inevitable tonight

CanThisBe · 08/09/2022 17:14

It's 5pm the Army's knocking off 😆

Dorisbonson · 08/09/2022 17:14

Announcement is 6

HJ40 · 08/09/2022 17:14

Perhaps the horse box was a Trojan horse to get a coffin in.

Blimmin hope they're out of the line of succession! Andrew Prince Regent?!

He'll never, ever be Prince Regent.
He remains in the line of succession.

orangechoco · 08/09/2022 17:15

How do u know announcements are at 6

baconbuttieswithsauce · 08/09/2022 17:15

And you know that how...?

4-5pm is a pretty standard time to bring ponies into their stables, the rain is causing a flush of grass growth and you have to be so careful with the weight of native ponies.

Finally - I was meaning to post this. It's passing down, the grass is full of sugar (lots of new growth) and native ponies (all horses) can full victim to a very serious condition called laminitis if they eat too much rich grass.

The ponies are being brought in for the night - because that's what you do with ponies at this time of year (mostly).

Tierne · 08/09/2022 17:15

With all the media there, they will have to make an announcement irrespective of the news

LuluBlakey1 · 08/09/2022 17:15

All kinds of strange things have to be put in place. We have a friend who is a High Sheriff. He has to gather together the mayors of the various places under his high-sherrifship, in a particular room in a particular historic building, and read them the announcement of the death of a monarch or Prince of Wales from a scroll. It is only at that point that they can be considered to be formally involved and begin to take actions.

A trojan horse box even...

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/09/2022 17:16

It would take a mass murder or a plane accident or similar to wipe out enough people for Andrew to get anywhere near the throne, fortunately.

Fullupdowntown1a1 · 08/09/2022 17:16

I wonder how the country will react when it’s announced, it’s been a tough year by any measure, I imagine it will be quite a blow for many.

Dinoteeth · 08/09/2022 16:37

If / when HMQ dies do schools and shops close?

Not for the whole time. The period of mourning doesn't close schools, shops, etc down.

Most closures you may find is the day of the funeral, which occurs 10 Days after her death. The day is classed as a national day, but it isn't a bank holiday. If she dies today I think the tenth day is a Sunday, so schools would be unaffected.

However, even if on a weekday the likelihood is there will be no closures, just a two minute silence, based on what I've was. Apparently this was agreed with the queen beforehand.

Xiaoxiong · 08/09/2022 17:17

I'm not mad about Charles being king - having an unequivocal "traditional" figure banging on about the countryside and organic farming and climate change long before it was on most people's radar has helped it not become as much of a party political issue as it is in the USA (for example). It's certainly one issue I want all parties to address so I am happy to have seen the royals speak more on it in recent years and I do think that's down to Brian.

He's certainly eccentric. I hope he still talks to his plants.

Tierne · 08/09/2022 17:17

The passing of the queen is the end of an age. It means the 20th century is officially dead.

IHateWasps · 08/09/2022 17:17

Yep.
It's the kind of attitude though that has kept the monarchy in position. Not surprising.

Good point. It's depressing though if not surprising.

EmptyHouse0822 · 08/09/2022 17:17

This may come across as ridiculous but I’ve literally only just seen this thread and I have no idea what’s happened. I’ve just turned on the news and they keep talking about the Queen being unwell but nothing specific and the same when I try and Google.

What has actually happened that has led to all this media coverage?? I’m guessing something serious must have happened?

Why would it be a blow? She's 96 and has been getting increasingly fail. Unsurprising if she dies. Very sad, but not a blow!

It's clearly more than just unwell.

@Tierne
If these are her last moments I wish she could record a last message for us to hear

What?? Why??

BiddyPop · 08/09/2022 17:18

Strange that William and Edward both travelled in the same plane. They are the closest adult heirs to the throne after Charles - Andy and Harry are both out of the picture, I'd imagine.

I think both William and Edward live in the Windsor area though? So would have been physically close together, so makes sense to travel together?

William being #2 in line to the throne but Edward significantly lower (after William's children, Harry and his children, and Andrew, if my memory serves me right....I may well be slightly wrong on the order though). So far less of a line of succession issue than William and Charles travelling together.
