The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

1000 replies

Festoonlights · 08/09/2022 12:44

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace says.

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," they said in a statement.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Her immediate family has been informed.

The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

Breaking news BBC

We very much hope she is okay, it made me feel sad to read this. I think the line her immediate family have been informed was a worrying line.

What a concern

IHateWasps · 08/09/2022 13:23

I accept that dying young is a tragedy, but dying as an old person is still traumatic for the family partly because you have seen them go on and on, and keep thinking they are immortal

For the family yes, absolutely but I suspect that most people on MN are not that.

I would be very grateful to those posting to be sensitive and mindful of those that are struggling with this news. This is a thread for those that are sharing their feelings about the Queen's health and celebrating her most wonderful life.

Wow, we got to 8 pages before someone couldn't resist bringing her up. I'm impressed.

I like the Queen and have great respect for her (not so much the other family members)

This is sad however you look at it

She's 96 years old and has a good innings indeed

With her husband passing away last year, I'm sure this has had a massive impact on her and her health

I agree. The passing of a lifelong companion has a dramatic effect.

My DF is a shadow of his active fun loving self since we lost my DM.

But our feelings about it will be varied, surely?

No we didn't.
It got deleted for being absolutely batcrap crazy. Page 2 I think.

What, the biggest news in the world today? They're literally there for clicks, they're not going to miss the chance for an avalanche of page views.

BBC coverage of her death and impending death is set out in a written plan and agreed with the Queen. This is not a decision being made today. The BBC actions have been set out in a plan for years.
Once she dies we have lots of coverage, comedy programmes postponed, etc,

Why is she at Balmoral? Such a long way for all the "VIPs" who need to visit . I didn't think it was a particularly favourite place of hers?

She was there on her 'summer break'. I imagine she's been too frail to travel anywhere else.

JustlookingNotbuying · 08/09/2022 13:25

For me also, it’s the idea of big changes on the horizon. When our Queen passes, most of us will have only known her as the head of our Royal family, the thought of changing all of that feels weird. I personally hate change but after living for 49 years I know it’s inevitable. Still hate it though.

I stand corrected. Never change, MN.

(Actually, please do. The Meghan obsession is so boring.)

It is also regularly rehearsed by those that will be heavily involved.

No wonder so many kids have anxiety issues these days if parents are sitting down with them to ‘prepare’ them for the Queen dying. Plus there are people who know it’s one of the Princes first day at school?

Some of you lot must be the type that sleep outside Buckingham Palace at night decked out in union jacks so you can be at the front waving flags when they walk by.

It's been all over the news it's George, Charlotte and Louis's fist day at their new school.

Trulyweird1 · 08/09/2022 13:26

@CanaryShoulderedThorn 💐 for you. I have been there, and it’s very hard, but I get comfort from having been there for her.

i also live close to Balmoral and the royals are often seen out and about. It will be the end of an era when she goes, and I for one will be sad at her passing.

How on earth did she get dressed and pose for that photo shoot. Incredible

Because she is an incredibly strong, determined woman who puts duty FAR above her own comfort levels. She is incredible, we have been very lucky & we will never see another person like her.

I really want her to be ok

Sapphirensteel · 08/09/2022 13:27

It’s sad for her family , no one wants their loved relative to die, but I feel greater sadness for the pensioners who’ll be cold this winter and could well spend their last hours on trolleys in hospital corridors.

CapMarvel · 08/09/2022 13:27

I have no time for the institution of the monarchy at all but you have to respect the queen for a lifetime of dedicating herself to what she shes as a divine duty.

What I do object to is people like Liz Truss coming out with statements that the whole country is "deeply concerned" and "praying" for her health. Nope, sorry. When she goes I'll shrug my shoulders and that will be it. We're not all forelock tugging subjects, thanks.

I read Charles and William are on their way to Balmoral.

Lockheart · 08/09/2022 13:28

Sadly I suspect it won't even be days. I'm not saying I'm right and I don't mean to be ghoulish, but the fact is that the palace almost never comments on the queen's health in this way so if we're at the point of this sort of announcement I would guess they expect something fairly soon.

CanaryShoulderedThorn · 08/09/2022 13:17

Well as someone who is sat here beside my mother who is dying, I have nothing but sympathy for them all.

Sending my deepest sympathy - I know how hard it is. Take care of yourself.
