The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace says.

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," they said in a statement.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Her immediate family has been informed.

The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

Breaking news BBC

We very much hope she is okay, it made me feel sad to read this. I think the line her immediate family have been informed was a worrying line.

Will certainly be the end of an era!

Sadly I have a feeling that she has already gone. I think they are letting the family gather before announcing. I hope I’m wrong.

I'm not a royalist but I will be very sad when the Queen dies.

I'm not a royalist, but I don't think the national pscyhe has really prepared itself for this. On top of (waves hand) everything else.

I'm absolutely no Royalist, either.. But Her Maj's picture hung in our Infant school {she looked very young in that portrait} in then Assembly Hall and it was something we just grew up with.
The Queen.
HMTQ has definitely been better for this Country than many Prime Ministers.

England has gone to Shit in the last few years , and losing the Figurehead will be very symbolic.

Doddery Charles is not top to the job, and William would be better.

End of an Era when Her Majesty the Queen joins Duke of Edinburgh.

Classic FM is playing rather sombre music today

PlattyJubes · 08/09/2022 14:46

@YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse - because it's in extremely poor taste and because this thread is not about whether a Monarchy belongs in 21st Century Britain but about the illness and possible death of a 96 year old woman.

Chakraleaf · 08/09/2022 14:46

3pm changing of guards Is cancelled

lasvegasherewe · 08/09/2022 14:41

@CaptainBarbosa but Diana died on Saturday so why would you be in a classroom when the news broke?

The teacher came in on what must have been on the Monday and just sorta exclaimed it as I think maybe they were trying to use it as a educational thing or something.

I've no idea, it's not a full memory, I remember being sat crossed legged on the carpet and her telling us.

It was bizzare.

RebOrHon · 08/09/2022 14:47

Not shocked as such @firef1y but it’s inevitably going to mean a shift in the zeitgeist of the country & commonwealth. It seems we’ve all been in a constant state of flux and anxiety over the past few years; the Queen’s death will be yet another ripple in the pond.

Tierne · 08/09/2022 14:47

Buckingham palace says she "remains comfortable". Surely that's quite positive actually? "Medical supervision" doesnt sound too bad either

It's a shame that other important news doesn't get the same coverage or apparent strength of feeling, news that DOES actually affect people in real life.

A 96 year old woman who had enjoyed a massively privileged long life, dying in her own castle surrounded by her family and the best healthcare imaginable, is not a tragedy.

The level of faux performative hysteria about this is going to be unimaginable.

I totally agree. It’s sad on a personal level for her family but it will have absolutely no effect on mine or anyone I know lives.

Anjo2011 · 08/09/2022 14:47

Changing of the Guard has been cancelled this afternoon at Buckingham Palace . Another sign that this isn’t a typical day.

Rely on for what? She has done jack shit for us.

God, there are some pathetic people on here!

Mr PoppysParka - hello? Do you know anything about history? I despair.

Just one example, although I guess I'm wasting my typing time:

I remember that Jeremy Paxman said that he changed his views from republican to mild monarchist when he covered the Queen's visit to the Republic of Ireland. There are so many sad events in the history of our 2 countries that it was a big deal for the Irish to welcome her on an official visit, of course. If you watched the coverage, she went with incredible humility and quietness. I was so moved by her demeanour - it was so subtle and gentle, expressing her sorrow at the past without even saying anything. Paxo believed that a politician couldn't have done it - it took someone of the Queen's symbolic stature and lack of ego to do this very delicate diplomatic task. She herself had lost a relation to an IRA attack so she knew the deal.

But whatever you views (and I can't help feeling that the really crude people on here may well be just...ignorant), this isn't the time for vicious spite. I can't stand the sight of Jeremy Corbyn, but if someone told me he was dying, I'd genuinely be sorry, for him and his loved ones.

I'm not bothered by people who are thoughtful, considerate republicans - no problem, and some have been on here and have said sensible things. But the level of school-playground spite and venom against a very old person who has been born into a role she never asked for and who has done it with great sincerity all her life is chilling. I hope I never meet you lot!

She's the most public of figures, part of a very controversial institution, it's perfectly understandable and appropriate that it be discussed.

Medical supervision to me sounds like palliative/EOL care.

Especially with the use of comfortable.

Then again I could be absolutely wrong

I used to be a nurse and saying someone comfortable can mean anything from they are indeed sat comfortably or they are unconscious and close to death, but in bed comfortable.

"Comfortable" is what they say when there's not much chance of someone's health improving.
"Medical supervision" suggests they're doing what they can to keep her comfortable.

Veeragall · 08/09/2022 14:49

There is no Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace in the afternoon. And it doesn't happen on a Thursday in Sept even in the morning.

Chakraleaf · 08/09/2022 14:49

Palliative care worker and comfortable is often used for end of life.

girlmom21 · 08/09/2022 14:50

A new monarch and a new PM in the space of a week would go down in history too, wouldn't it

Veeragall · 08/09/2022 14:50

Guard change had been cancelled for tomorrow though. Not a good sign.

No one cares about what you expect, least of all the Royal Family, no doubt.

No one cares what you think either but we are both entitled to our view.

PlattyJubes · 08/09/2022 14:51

@YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse - I disagree with you vehemently that this is an appropriate time to do this. You are remarkably lacking in emotional literacy and I am v grateful that I don't have to engage with you in real life.
