The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace says.

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," they said in a statement.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Her immediate family has been informed.

The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

Breaking news BBC

We very much hope she is okay, it made me feel sad to read this. I think the line her immediate family have been informed was a worrying line.

Performative doom and gloom is exactly it.

You can see it on this thread already, you're not really allowed an opinion that isn't 'aww I'll miss her so much, the nation's granny'.

Some posters are asking what does she mean to the average person in the U.K.-

So for me the Queen was a constant presence and made me feel the country was in safe, steadfast hands. Prime ministers and political parties come and go, but the Queen was always there.

Every Christmas we gather and listen to her words and Christmas message, and whenever the country was hit by tragedy I felt she was there to steady us all with her kind and wise words.

Every single day from the moment she was crowned she has dedicated to our country, she has been an extraordinary head of state, immense fortitude, elegance and dignity and one we could always feel proud of, to feel she was the very very best of us.

BBC said Edward and Sophie had travelled.

I think it’s more to do with the age of the children - Beatrice and Eugenie haven’t gone either and both have young children.

None of the grandchildren have other than William and just reported, Harry. No Peter, Zara, Beatrice, Eugene, Louise or James have been mentioned.

VioletInsolence · 08/09/2022 14:19

It’ll be like when Kevin in Motherland has to inform his daughters that he can’t go to sports day 😆

TheKeatingFive · 08/09/2022 14:20

as I did not want this to feel like another thunder bolt (like covid) in their lives. As the fallout of the Queen passing will be bigger for many people than even covid

What?!?!

Alltheholidays · 08/09/2022 14:20

We’re going to get all the performitive grief nonsense very soon..
it’ll be a million times worse than Diana😣
we’ll get a day off though!

Beautifully put, @Festoonlights.

She's a connection to my grandparents and a society that I remember growing up in

I think if you dig deep enough, most of the trauma and grief felt by people will be because it’s one of the starkest reminders of our own/everyone’s mortality. If one of the most powerful and abiding people on the planet who’s been a whole century must also pass through, what chance the rest of us. And of course it reminds some people of other losses. But yeah, mortality.

I think this is how I view it, and pretty much sums up my current emotions.

And of course as always when something like this happens (in real life or otherwise) it almost winds you. One minute you're going about your day, the next minute you have a very grave situation.

IHateWasps · 08/09/2022 14:21

Well said, and if you don't agree just FO.

Nope. Sorry.

greenhousegal · 08/09/2022 14:21

How did that woman stand, meet and greet the new PM (and be nice to the former one) just a very short time ago? A very quick deterioration which suggests a sudden crisis. Sorry I do not mean to be speculative, but like others I am caught up with it all.

Absolutely.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 08/09/2022 14:22

I hope Sophie has gone — I think they were closer than some of the others. I think the Wessexes lived near and used to often visit "just because".

I'll be sad too. She's always been there, and actually between my family we've seen or heard from a royal most years at events or ceremonies. They don't seem that remote to me really. It'll be a big change for the whole royal family.

Twizbe · 08/09/2022 14:22

They are putting crowd barriers up outside balmoral ...

HotHeatDays · 08/09/2022 14:14

By the sounds of it it is only the direct relation that has gone, other than Camilla and Tim Lawrence who were already there. Sophie hasn't gone either.

And that’s quite normal. Dh did not sit with me at my dad’s bedside when he was dying and my dad wouldn’t have wanted that. There’s not always a lot of dignity when someone dies, I can understand only wanting blood relations.

Cocksandrubbers · 08/09/2022 14:22

I feel oddly upset, am sat at work watching the news on my phone.

I mean we all knew it was going to happen, but it feels very surreal doesn’t it? What do we do, do businesses close? And I hope harry gets theee in time.

This is sad news, I'm not a royalist but I can admire and appreciate everything she has done in her lifetime. My thoughts are with her and her family.Flowers

QuebecBagnet · 08/09/2022 14:23

Though I guess they can hang around downstairs. Balmoral is probably big enough. 🤷‍♀️

For me she's the woman who secretly lobbied Parliament to hide the extent of her family's wealth at a time when food bank usage was peaking.

Different life experiences, I guess.

I nearly said that — I understand Meghan going with Harry since they're travelling together, but wondered if she'd end up hanging around in the hall!

LuluBlakey1 · 08/09/2022 14:24

The BBC are reporting Harry and Meghan are going to Balmoral. It astonishes me that either of them would think it appropriate Meghan should be there. Kate, Beatrice, Eugenie, Zara are not travelling there but she is.

VioletInsolence · 08/09/2022 14:24

I’m not a royal hater. I hate the Queen no more and no less than I hate any other human. (Which is quite a lot if I spend too much time on MN.) Because she is a human, the same as the many other humans who will die today. And she’s had a far better life than most of them.

EverydayIsPJday · 08/09/2022 14:25

Really sad news, no matter how unsurprising for her age. She's been incredible.

Can't understand why people are so rude on here, what are you getting out of it? Nasty people.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/09/2022 14:25

No, it doesn't sound good, but then I said that when HM missed the Remembrance Sunday service and she's still here so far

Back then, though, there was no statement saying the medics are "concerned", so it does sound as if folk are being prepared

If so I'd hope for a peaceful passing, just as I would for anyone
