Me three

I think it's because her solution to the energy crisis was tax cuts and not handouts. She's back peddled on that now but how she thought that would help the poor is unbelievable, when most don't pay tax.

Most of her proposals only benefit people in work and earning reasonable money.

Personally she'll be as bad as the rest so not much change really.

But she's a woman so that's positive in itself. For good or for bad that's what it's about and AFAIC women in power need the opportunity to be as good or bad as their male counterparts.

Because this is MN and you have to bash the tories at every given opportunity, labour are the political party of MN and no other party will be tolerated.

Never voted Labour in my life actually and was a Conservative since Uni.
First time for everything though

I really resent the fact that only 100k odd people got to decide our new PM.

I think when a PM resigns there should automatically be a new general election.

The current government is not fit for purpose.

A lot fewer than 100k decided Gordon Brown to replace Tony Blair!

God that speech was total word salad nonsense. Even the tories must be horrified at Liz for PM....

The 'best' bit was the loud silence after she said that 'her friend' Boris was 'admired from Kiev to Carlisle' (eventually there was lukewarm clapping)

To quote the old MN phrase: 'is she on glue' ?

Truss is mediocre& a mediocre PM is not what we need in these challenging times.

MaggieFS · 05/09/2022 13:00

She did NOT need to reference "her friend" Boris Johnson. She could have moved on.

Wirewool · 05/09/2022 13:00

SleeplessInEngland · 05/09/2022 12:56

Oooh, watch out everyone, we've got a non-sheep in the thread!

Ha ha ha encourage others to mock me all you like, I wouldn’t have expected anything less.

Antarcticant · 05/09/2022 12:57

I will deliver on the energy crisis, dealing with people’s energy bills

Oh, great, thanks, Liz. Shall I email it to you, or would you rather I printed it off and popped it in the post?

😂

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/09/2022 13:00

So Liz is now off to meet Liz

Porcupineintherough · 05/09/2022 13:01

gratefulheart · 05/09/2022 12:48

Can someone tell me in simple terms why this is not a good option.....

Yes. Can you explain (simply or otherwise) why you think it is?

Liz Truss is the best we can do? God help us all.

carefullycourageous · 05/09/2022 13:01

MaggieFS · 05/09/2022 13:00

She did NOT need to reference "her friend" Boris Johnson. She could have moved on.

That was pure 'please don't stab me in the back, Johnson loyalist MPs' Grin

Figgygal · 05/09/2022 13:01

What an embarrassment
She comes across like she's never had an individual thought in her life

they could have brought back Theresa May at least

Notlosinganyweight · 05/09/2022 13:01

VickyEadieofThigh · 05/09/2022 12:48

For months, when anyone has said Johnson needs to go, there have been a load of people saying "But who would replace him? There's nobody better!" I kept saying "Of COURSE there will be - there are hundreds of Tory MPs to choose from..."

Bloody hell! Who would've thought that Truss was the best they could come up with?

I know, a minority voted for this and will fuck this country because of this. There isn't a great deal of choice in the tory party, but she and Rishi were not the best candidates.

Oh well hopefully the downfall will be sped up so something better can come in quicker, but it shouldn't get to the point where the country has to be literally on its arse before these people realise they should probably stop being selfish and start doing their fucking jobs.

Lunabun · 05/09/2022 13:01

She also clearly has a strong personal commitment to long awkward pauses when speaking.

🤣🤣

sobeyondthehills · 05/09/2022 13:02

I look forward to the plans she talked about yesterday.

Because there is no way she would have lied about that

RaRaRaspoutine · 05/09/2022 13:02

DIanaRiggFan · 05/09/2022 12:46

We’re all fucked. Putins gonna nuke us just to take her out

We’ll be very warm for a fraction of a second, at least

Underhisi · 05/09/2022 13:02

The dreggs indeed.

SleeplessInEngland · 05/09/2022 13:02

Wirewool · 05/09/2022 13:00

Ha ha ha encourage others to mock me all you like, I wouldn’t have expected anything less.

Honestly, if you want to hold yourself hostage to fortune that Truss will be great no-one's stopping you. Have at it.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/09/2022 13:02

does she actually plan to send troops into Ukraine?

bloodyunicorns · 05/09/2022 13:03

Christ on a bike.

She's awful. She's going to roll back workers' rights until it's like the industrial revolution again...

Afterfire · 05/09/2022 13:03

Figgygal · 05/09/2022 13:01

What an embarrassment
She comes across like she's never had an individual thought in her life

they could have brought back Theresa May at least

At least she could have danced onto the stage and we could have laughed about it.

Tinner01 · 05/09/2022 13:03

Actually I think Liz Truss is good news. Because she’ll be so hopeless the Tories will be voted out next election!

fromdownwest · 05/09/2022 13:03

What is very telling, is that even though the Conservative party have literally self destructed, Starmer and co have only managed to pull a 9% polling advantage from the cross over in Nov'21.

It highlights what a mess UK politics is currently in.

MattDillonsEyebrows · 05/09/2022 13:03

whynotwhatknot · 05/09/2022 12:53

oh dear im all for women in power but not necessarily this one

This has been said for all the women leaders so far, and there’s only been 3!

Misogyny at its finest!!

Well done. 👏

Riapia · 05/09/2022 13:05

Out come all the Jeremy worshipers, weeping and wailing and gnashing their teeth.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/09/2022 13:05

i remember there was a lot of excitement about Maggie Thatcher and the fact that she was a Woman prime minister
i guess any excitement here is muted, been there, done that.
