There's something about less foreign cheese, and 76p to help with the £6k energy bill.

Don't we even get a new kettle ? 😕

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/09/2022 13:13

odd to mention corbyn
unwise to mention boris

Afterfire · 05/09/2022 13:14

reesewithoutaspoon · 05/09/2022 13:06

I,m calling it now. Despite the energy companies making vast profits on the current cap level. she will freeze it at say 2.5k and people will be grateful they arent paying 3.5k even though the energy companies could have cut costs and still make huge profits. and people will be thankful for it and forget all the other shit they have done over the last 3 years

Yes. I think this too.

kateandme · 05/09/2022 13:14

Trouble is as much as boris is a twat. If enough people rallied, made anger,or he got the picture he was being a tit sometimes sometimes he would stop albeit if it was HIS idea. With truss she will steamroll anyway.she has no compassion.no care.her harshness and way she interacts is just awful. I fear her more.
she is opportunistic.
she’s power hungry.
she does not care.

If she goes with the small state approach in the worst cost of living crisis in living memory then you might as well give Starmer the keys to Downing St right now.

Absolutely, although in fairness we can't assume the stuff that leadership candidates have to spout to win over completely unrepresentative party members represents what they genuinely intend to do.

SleeplessInEngland · 05/09/2022 13:12

The thread is not titled 'give explicit reasons why you think Truss will be bad'. It's just a soundboard for instant gut reactions.

You're getting annoyed for nothing.

I’m not annoyed. Sounds like you are though Grin

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/09/2022 13:15

Boris, you got Brexit done. You crushed Jeremy Corbyn, you rolled out the vaccine. And you stood up to Vladimir Putin. You were admired from Kyiv to Carlisle.

Greensleeves · 05/09/2022 13:15

Apparently she's going to give Health to Therese Coffey and put Rees-Mogg in charge of energy policy. Oh, and Priti Patel hasn't done enough to control Channel migrants, so she'll be out.

Sacking Priti Patel for being a wet. Christ on a cracker, we're fucked.

RiftGibbon · 05/09/2022 13:16

There's a song on the new Muse album called "We are all fucking fucked".
Seems an appropriate listen today.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 05/09/2022 12:47

Is anyone really surprised?

Speech was cringeworthy.

I agree, was awful.

JS87 · 05/09/2022 13:16

Reasons why people think she will be a disaster

  1. she plans to solve energy crisis by giving tax cuts to the wealthy to reduce their bills (e.g. cuts to NI and income tax higher rate possibly moving to 80K- doesn't help those who pay under threshold for income tax at all)
  2. tax cuts will lead to decimated public services and nhs and education suffering more
  3. she isn't interested in renewable energy at all. opposes on-shore wind and solar farms
  4. She wants to scrap EU working directive and introduce US working conditions- think 2 weeks max paid holiday, 60 hour weeks, 6 week maternity pay and no paternity pay. This will apparently grow the economy and help make the rich richer.
  5. she doesn't think before she speaks and is not diplomatic at all. See comments she made in the early days of Ukraine war
  6. wants to scrap NI protocol

Anyone want to add any others?

123derbyshire · 05/09/2022 13:16

So glad it wasn't fishy rishi!! What he did to the self employed was unforgivable

Yep, good call :(

kateandme · 05/09/2022 13:16

I very much fear for the vulnerable and those struggling so much more now.

JS87 · 05/09/2022 13:17

oh yes
7) her speculative choice of cabinet ministers is very right wing.

She is a ERG puppet
It's going to be horrible all round

Afterfire · 05/09/2022 12:57

I really resent the fact that only 100k odd people got to decide our new PM.

I think when a PM resigns there should automatically be a new general election.

The current government is not fit for purpose.

@Afterfire

We don't vote the Prime Minster in, so that makes no sense.

Sirius3030 · 05/09/2022 13:18

FreddyHG · 05/09/2022 12:53

Good I see the left leaning Mumsnet already loath her. I think she will do well and our third female pm. Small state please and no bankrupting the country.

Small state? Cut back on infrastructure and safety nets.

Let’s hear your policies…

Spot the Tory voter 😂

I am, as it happens. I'd made a cup of tea half an hour ago that I forgot about and now it's cold. What a waste.

what a lovely unifying opening message (sarcasm)

And the silence as she waited for applause was uncomfortable although it did come eventually. I think they needed someone with a sign to hold up when she wanted applause.

kateandme · 05/09/2022 13:16

I fear as much for the middle people who she would rather see in the vulnerable group

Numbat2022 · 05/09/2022 13:21

She's not really PM in a normal way. She's simply the new ERG puppet, who will do what she's told until they decide to replace her.

It's terrible for the country, but I do hope it hastens the demise of the Tories.

georgarina · 05/09/2022 13:22

It would have been bad either way, but FML
