Please can I have a tldr to why it's a bad thing?

I only know she wants to remove speed limits on motorways.

Is there anywhere I can find more of her policies?

Mostly it is to make inflation worse, cut taxes for the rich/businesses and deport everyone she can regardless of who you are, why you are here or where you were born.

Expect some rapid pivoting now she needs to appeal to more than just the swivel-eyed loons.

She also clearly has a strong personal commitment to long awkward pauses when speaking.

Anothernamechangeplease · 05/09/2022 12:54

Expected but depressing nonetheless.

Let's hope that she governs less badly than her campaign would suggest. The Tories will be toast at the next election, but I'm seriously worried about how much damage Liz Truss can do in the meantime.

CurzonDax · 05/09/2022 12:54

Judging by the responses in her most recent interviews, as well as this speech (which I assume had at least been pre-prepared), the opposition are going to be able to regularly wipe the floor with her at PMQs each week.

Underhisi · 05/09/2022 12:54

Hopefully this is the end for the Tories.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 05/09/2022 12:54

57%-43% to Truss

Interesting. Not the landslide people were predicting.

I just hope she has a good cabinet and advisors.

She hasn’t. They will be chosen on how hardline and hating of anyone with less money than them than actual ability or knowledge

Is the OP running for prime minister?

Why are you asking me? It’s a bit late now, they’ve already chosen one.

When someone starts a thread for discussion asking god to help us all, it would be helpful to know what policies they are in favour of before the inevitable sheep like agreement with them.

girlmom21 · 05/09/2022 12:55

CapMarvel · 05/09/2022 12:53

On the plus side, she'll doubtless make the tories completely unelectable come the next GE.

On the negative side, the UK will probably be fucked beyond all recognition by the time we get there.

She is a fucking nutter. With Boris you could at least sort of see why people would like him but I cannot, by any measure, think why anyone would think Truss would be a viable PM.

I saw a newspaper report yesterday or the day before suggesting that there's a plan to elect her then do a no confidence vote at Xmas and re-elect Boris. Very strange.

EmmiJay · 05/09/2022 12:55

Grieffffffff🙄

jetSTAR · 05/09/2022 12:55

Oh fuck 😵

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/09/2022 12:56

her speech
during this leadership campaign, I campaigned as a Conservative and I will govern as a conservative.
And my friends, we need to show that we will deliver over the next two years.
I will deliver a bold plan to cut taxes and grow our economy.
I will deliver on the energy crisis, dealing with people’s energy bills, but also dealing with the long term issues we have on energy supply.
And I will deliver on the National Health Service
But we all will deliver for our country. And I will make sure that we use all the fantastic talents of the Conservative party, our brilliant members of parliament and peers, our fantastic counsellors, our MSs, our MSPs, all of our councillors and activists and members right across our country. Because, my friends, I know that we will deliver, we will deliver and we will deliver.
And we will deliver a great victory for the Conservative Party in 2024. Thank you.

for those, like me, who turned it off!

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 05/09/2022 12:56

She also clearly has a strong personal commitment to long awkward pauses when speaking.

Oh those awkward pauses where you can see her desperately trying to think of something to say. 'Data is loading. Please wait'.

Cringesome.

Capturetotalelotion · 05/09/2022 12:56

As a recent Conservative voter but not party member, I thought neither was a good choice. Definitely time for a change of government. I have voted for all the 3 main parties in the past, so now is the time to reassess my preferences I think.

Yes interesting, she was so talked up that anything under 65% looks bad and that was quite a long way under. She got the lowest % of any winner since members started voting.

I look forward to whatever video Labour is releasing today with all the attacks from Sunak about Truss's economic 'plans'.

Oooh, watch out everyone, we've got a non-sheep in the thread!

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 05/09/2022 12:51

If you find out tell Liz, that's pretty much all she's got.

There's something about less foreign cheese, and 76p to help with the £6k energy bill.

To be fair unless you moved home in the last year there is no reason to be paying a 6k fuel bill. If people didn't choose to fix (I did and paid an early exit fee to do so because it was so clear where energy prices were going) last September that isn't the states problem.

hamdden12 · 05/09/2022 12:56

lancsgirl85 · 05/09/2022 12:48

I don't anything about her. Why is it such a bad thing? (Genuine question!)

Because this is MN and you have to bash the tories at every given opportunity, labour are the political party of MN and no other party will be tolerated.

She doesn't have any. This is the problem.

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/09/2022 12:57

She's the ERG choice, keeping the seat warm for Johnson.

Afterfire · 05/09/2022 12:57

I really resent the fact that only 100k odd people got to decide our new PM.

I think when a PM resigns there should automatically be a new general election.

The current government is not fit for purpose.

Antarcticant · 05/09/2022 12:57

I will deliver on the energy crisis, dealing with people’s energy bills

Oh, great, thanks, Liz. Shall I email it to you, or would you rather I printed it off and popped it in the post?

Yes, Mumsnetters famously love Labour's stance on trans people.

I think we the great unwashed are allowed to think 'oh fuck' when faced with PM Truss.

Never in the history of British democracy have average voters been required to draw up a comprehensive manifesto before being allowed to express the view that the current PM is a total twat. This is a proud tradition.
