To ask when I should expect the warm weather to end?

I know a lot of people are dreading winter this year but I’m dreading this warm weather going on for much longer. It makes me utterly depressed. Ive stopped most of my hobbies, I avoid going out, I constantly feel crap and lethargic, I’m looking at the weather app everyday praying for colder weather but it’s over 20 degrees for the next few weeks at least.

How many more weeks before the cold and dark returns?? Any idea?

Yes I am worried about the fuel bills before anyone asks but I’m still craving the cold

I'm in London and whilst it's still over 20, it is mostly low 20's now (mid-20's in the middle of the day, but with a breeze) it really feels like it's turned towards Autumn. Fingers crossed we're done with the properly hot weather.

ScaryBiscuitz · 04/09/2022 08:06

I’m in East Yorkshire, it was 25 degrees yesterday and so humid. I had a splitting headache, honestly I just wanted to cry, I’m so tired of it now. I can’t remember the last time I slept properly

I'm in London and yesterday was awful so stuffy, Underground was boiling. Am hoping we will soon see it gone too op.

Redqueenheart · 04/09/2022 08:24

I am visiting Scotland right now. Rainy and cold. :) Actually a welcome change after stuffy London.

I hope the weather in the South East will be cooler by the time I come back. Like you I simply can't cope with the hot weather anymore. I have decided to move out of London because of it.

Devo1818 · 04/09/2022 08:29

Thanks for the thread - I have been thinking the same.

Devo1818 · 04/09/2022 08:31

To add, I'm in London, yesterday as it got towards evening I felt chilly for the first time and put a cardi on. Admittedly it came off again when I started cooking.

From memory I think October is when it is noticeably colder. My app says high of 20 for the next 2 weeks.

Singleandproud · 04/09/2022 08:31

I'm in Norfolk right on the east coast, it tends to stay warm until the third week in September and then we get wind and rain.

I know it's the driest part of the country but we haven't had any meaningful rain at all since before May, those thunderstorms other areas got after the heat waves were just cracks of lightning here, everything is just so dry, dusty and dead.

lljkk · 04/09/2022 08:34

some years there's residual warmth until October half term. I've been on north sea beaches splashing in water in late October.

Devo1818 · 04/09/2022 09:19

I distinctly remember seeing the first frost during the 3rd week of October a couple of years ago.

Whammyyammy · 04/09/2022 09:25

South West. We put all our garden furniture etc away yesterday, as can feel the weather turning

Dd was born mid October and I remember a frost as we drove to the hospital that morning. Seems unreal that it could be frosty in a few weeks though.

KickboxingWanker · 04/09/2022 09:28

North West - I normally find September really warm just as the children go back to school, this sometimes lasts until early Oct.

mind you have seen loads of migrating geese flying over (loudly) over the past day or so - maybe they know something we don’t!

PupInAPram · 04/09/2022 09:31

Am I the only person hoping for a mild and breezy winter? I'm in the North-West and would be very happy to stay frost free for as long as possible.

Handsoffmyrights · 04/09/2022 09:34

I feel the same as you OP. It feels never ending.

Sunnyqueen · 04/09/2022 09:40

It's changing now but it really dips in the last week of September I find. I'm the opposite of you and really getting worried about my mood and how I'm going to cope.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 04/09/2022 10:00

I feel the same, OP. I've got a medical condition which means I'm warm most of the time, so the heat has been unbearable. You aren't alone, I was chatting with a much younger colleague at work the other day who really suffers in the heat - we were gleefully looking out of the window at the clouds and rain 😂

YellowTreeHouse · 04/09/2022 10:01

Just stop being so miserable.

GoneWithTheWine1 · 04/09/2022 10:03

This week, it's dropping to 11 where I live. 🤷🏻‍♀️ maybe move more north lol.

ScaryBiscuitz · 04/09/2022 10:05

I’m so glad I’m not alone in this. I hate the way everywhere is so busy, everytime you step outside there are people and noise, kids everywhere, dogs everywhere - no point in trying to go for a day out anywhere as it’s too stressful a) trying to get parked, b) trying to avoid crowds, c) trying to keep cool

I miss my winter morning walks - 7am when it’s dark and cold, silence on a Sunday morning with frost on the ground.

7am this morning might as well been mid afternoon, sunny, people everywhere 😫 I’d have to go out at 4am to get anywhere near the same feeling of peace

I was thinking about this yesterday. I remember when my kids were little, the first weekend of October we had the pool out, a BBQ and went for a picnic! Then a few years later I remember being at a Halloween event and all the kids were in shorts and T-shirts. I mean that’s quite unusual, but pointing out to say it’s hard to tell when it will get colder!

I love the colder months and dark evenings, although am worried about heating costs this year.

I’m near London and the last few days have felt more autumnal, if that helps.

I’ll tell you the same in January 😂

The difference is cold weather is miserable.

Warm weather is pleasant and joyful.

How far north is north? I’m in East Yorkshire … would LOVE to live in Northumberland.

Maybe for you. For me (and many others) the cold dark weather is peaceful - the sunny weather is suffocating and depressing

I'm in Scotland and its definitely not cold! Yes it's wet at times but still warm enough to wear a t-shirt out. Just nice 😁
