Do you care that Liz Truss had an affair?

SheSaidHummingbird · 01/09/2022 00:03

On the one hand, I feel that it's her own business, but on the other, I want a PM I can look up to, who I can trust, who has dignity. After Boris, after his endless lies, Truss doesn't inspire the integrity that I want to see in my country's leader. AIBU?

Couldn't care less if Liz had an affair.
Couldn't care less if Boris had cheese & wine.
Couldn't care less if Keir had pizza and beer.
Couldn't care less if Rishi's wife is rich.

The country is in a shit state, yet we seem more interested in our leaders social lives, and in turn they allocate a load of time having to defend themselves.

It's time they cracked on and sorted this mess out .

Correct.

Suedomin · 03/09/2022 13:47

Not particularly bothered about her affair , but I am bothered about her policies. And her character . She is ruthlessly ambitious , has no values and will be a disaster for the UK

DowningStreetParty · 03/09/2022 14:06

I do care about affairs. I couldn’t care less how many partners people have as long as nobody is being lied to. It’s the lying and secrecy I hate.

If people don’t have the decency to split up from their serious, committed partner once they have fallen out of love, or before they get into bed with someone else (or with successive someone else’s) then they’re a shitty person.

If you can barefaced lie like that to your partner and kids, the very people you profess to love most, then you’re a shitty person. You love yourself the most. You’re placing your own wants and convenience way, way above your loved ones’ security or happiness. Cheats and liars who also through their job, have been given power over other people, are very unsafe people to be around. I definitely don’t want anyone like that as a PM again.

Boris johnson with his constant lying and political short cuts and populist insecure neediness for personal popularity and laziness, the holidays and parties and his terrible judgement (presumably because his own standards of what’s normal in personal behavior are so low?), has shown himself so unsuited to a position of responsibility that he’s actually had to resign as PM.

All this at a crucial time for the UK of cost of living and energy crisis, climate crisis, Brexit and post pandemic recovery. This distraction due to his moral failings is costing everyone in the UK money and stress every day that passes. We’ve been pissing about for weeks with no real government due to Johnson not having the decency to resign as PM so we could have a general election. Shame on him.

I'm really surprised to see people saying they don’t care about these kind of things. You don’t find many people who are selfish at home and public spirited and unselfish at work. Seems very naive to think that way.

SheSaidHummingbird · 03/09/2022 15:28

DowningStreetParty You have voiced my thoughts exactly. People and relationships evolve and there is no shame in falling out of love. But infidelity is a spineless, selfish act; it's cowardly. And I don't want a PM who is any if these things.

The next PM is going to inherit some of the most severe issues the country has faced in decades. I don't trust Truss to deal with Putin, the energy crisis, the NHS, the strikes etc. She's a weak hand-puppet.

Magic paintbrush This is how I feel. It takes a huge degree of arrogance to believe that you can cheat and lie to those closest to you - your spouse, your family and children - and then merrily run for PM, asking voters to have confidence in her.

@DownNative What the UK does or doesn't do when the target of nuclear strikes is immaterial.. as i said, nukes/MAD has failed, its too late and no one is going to target the UK only, their effects are hardly containable.

I i find it absolutely amazing that you think 2 carriers with a handful of planes would deter China invading Taiwan, only the Yanks can do that, together with the economic consequences.
Need i remind you the QE carrier barely made it out of the Solent before it broke down.

I would rather have someone in power who isn't an out an out populist, which is what Truss is modelling herself on, she is likely to do stuff to seek popularity, regardless of the outcome, hence unable to distinguish between Macron, a friend and Putin, an enemy.

Yes plenty of Labour politicians screw up, which is why i'm not really a supporter of them but they would be a lot better for the UK than the current Tory Govt, who despite 12 years in power have not improved anything at all, in fact with Brexit, made things far worse.

I think personal behavior does matter - any of these people could be standing addressing the nation and telling us what to do, how to behave.

We need to have total confidence in our leaders at time of crisis.

Telling us all to stay at home, don't mix Save the NHS etc etc but doing the very opposite, is one reason why the country is in a mess, they don't use public service, aren't bothered about cost of living, so don't give a stuff about any of us :(

How rich someone's wife is, really shouldn't matter as long as Sunak leads by example, but remember he got a fine.

DownNative · 03/09/2022 16:05

@Alexandra2001 What the UK does or doesn't do when the target of nuclear strikes is immaterial.. as i said, nukes/MAD has failed, its too late and no one is going to target the UK only, their effects are hardly containable.

On the contrary, MAD would ONLY have failed if any warhead actually and literally lands on its intended target.

Being launched is not itself evidence of a failure in MAD since they CAN be diverted in mid air and aborted safely elsewhere. This capability IS exactly why each State would launch as soon as a rogue State launches. That action itself is what would lead to diverting and abortion of warheads. That's the foundation behind MAD.

As ever, you keep on falling into the False Dilemma Fallacy when the option I just mentioned is valid.

I i find it absolutely amazing that you think 2 carriers with a handful of planes would deter China invading Taiwan, only the Yanks can do that, together with the economic consequences.
Need i remind you the QE carrier barely made it out of the Solent before it broke down.

Right.....please quote where I stated exactly that?

What a Strawman Argument Fallacy from you! Quite an error in logic there. Bravo! Bad faith on your part.

I would rather have someone in power who isn't an out an out populist, which is what Truss is modelling herself on, she is likely to do stuff to seek popularity, regardless of the outcome, hence unable to distinguish between Macron, a friend and Putin, an enemy.

That would be your opinion. That's fine. But also irrelevant to what I've actually said so far.

Yes plenty of Labour politicians screw up, which is why i'm not really a supporter of them but they would be a lot better for the UK than the current Tory Govt, who despite 12 years in power have not improved anything at all, in fact with Brexit, made things far worse.

You could have fooled me with how fervently you've been defending anything to do with Labour in here. It's not particularly balanced.

John Major, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Theresa May all had integrity and were not liars.

Didn't Major have an affair with Edwina Curry?

vera99 · 03/09/2022 22:23

She has finally brough the 'cuck' out - but Kwasi remains out of sight heralded only the Sir Gavin Williamson's Chief Whip's spreadsheet way back when.

Who cares what Liz Truss did or didn’t do in her twenties - it’s the here and now that matters and the gripping storyline of @illicitinkling (Helen and @MyNameIsDan ) as they enjoy fun filled escapes whilst holding down employment and supporting families without rocking any boats - for those saying this isn’t real - it is and these illicit encounters are played out by the lucky few who compartmentalise fun whilst operating under a cloak of absolute secrecy - the ladies can’t smile at home but they can laugh and let go in the arms of their non judgmental lovers! Affairs have always happened - but the internet has turned it into an art form for those that know x

vera99 · 03/09/2022 23:01

Hey, up you're shilling your own naughtiness and probably getting an illicit thrill to (thigh) boot!

I take the view that if you are willing to lie and cheat on your own family then you will have no qualms about doing it to strangers. I don’t trust cheats and liars anyway but people who fuck over their own family are extra awful.

Couldn’t have put it better myself

Do you care that Liz Truss had an affair?

Um, Prime Minister David Lloyd George.

Blair was his offspring, politically . George did good things early in his premiership. Then he got mesmerised by war fever. Sent the Black and Tans into Ireland. Sold honours for money.

I'll defend any unjustified attacks on Labour or for that matter on a Con politician, there are a few decent ones, just none in cabinet, making policy... maybe Truss will change that?

If someone criticised Labour for not openly supporting strike action on the railways for example, i'd completely agree with them... is that balanced enough for you???
Do you criticise the Cons or praise anything Labour has ever done? nope but do i demand "balance" from you? of course not.

Its a ridiculous thing to pull me up on.

BritWifeInUSA · 04/09/2022 18:01

She had an affair? Not a big deal, in my opinion.

I’m more concerned about Sunak’s immigration fraud and lying and defrauding the US government. That’s more serious than an affair, in my opinion. He used his green card, which he was no longer entitled to, to travel back and forth between the US and the UK even during 2020 and 2021 when regular Brits, like my mother, were barred for traveling here because they followed the rules.

Entering with a GC requires you to confirm to the immigration officer on duty that you are a permanent resident of the US and your absence from the country was temporary, such as a holiday or a business trip. He lied. He was living and working in the UK and using the GC for his own personal benefit. GC holders who leave the US to move to another country or go back to their homeland must surrender their GC as they leave. It’s not a deluxe tourist visa.

pigsDOfly · 04/09/2022 18:09

I really can't be bothered about the fact that she's had an affair, or even how many she might have had.

My horror is purely reserved for the fact that she's about to become our next Prime Minister.

pigsDOfly · 04/09/2022 18:11

And if you're looking for integrity in 'our leaders' OP, I fear you're going to be sorely disappointed.

SheSaidHummingbird · 04/09/2022 23:00

pigsDOfly Trust me, I already feel like an idiot for my brief moment of hope that things could get better when Boris announced his 'resignation'.
