Do you care that Liz Truss had an affair?

On the one hand, I feel that it's her own business, but on the other, I want a PM I can look up to, who I can trust, who has dignity. After Boris, after his endless lies, Truss doesn't inspire the integrity that I want to see in my country's leader. AIBU?

Just further proof that she stands for nothing and has no principals at all. She should never be PM.

partygate · 02/09/2022 17:56

Did you post a similar post when Boris was running for PM given the MULTIPLE affairs he had? Or is it just woken who are held to your standards?

Notonthestairs · 02/09/2022 17:56

"They get a nudge wink and aren't they are a card."

Lex - I don't think Johnson has had that treatment on MN. I think his long list of affairs has been considered rather unpleasant and certainly nothing to be proud of. This has probably been compounded by the number of children he has fathered with different partners.

Of course there is no way on earth Truss would have been able to rise to PM if she had had a similar number of children with a similar number of partners. That absolutely is based in misogyny.

People make mistakes in life. Her husband forgave her and they went on to have children together. People make mistakes. I used to work for a national company at a local office complex of about 5,000 people. It was like a village. They worked long hours, worked away from home a lot. Affairs were rife. Westminster is like that. Things happen.
I don't ascribe to cheating on spouses. But I also don't see the point of going on about it 17 years later when we have no idea what was happening within her own marriage at the time.
I don't expect family, friends, colleagues and bosses not have made mistakes that they later regret. That's just not real life.

Apl · 02/09/2022 18:05

Hm. Ordinarily I would, but from a quick google it seems she was age 25 and had an affair with her much older mentor in Tory politics when she’d only just started out, feels like a gross old dude was exploiting her more than anything else. Glad her marriage survived it.

balalake · 02/09/2022 18:08

@MarshaMelrose the affair 17 years ago, before being an MP, is reasonable to forgive. The more recent one(s) if true are not.

What you do before seeking public office is different from what you do once in, and what you do when you are a parent is different from if you are not.

MarshaMelrose · 02/09/2022 18:14

And just to add David Lloyd George was such a cheating philanderer he brought his mistress to his house where his wife lived. He once did an interview whilst in bed with two naked women.
Oh and by introducing national insurance he laid the groundwork for the national state. He was a great pm who achieved a lot for workers. He just slept with a lot of women.

drpet49 · 02/09/2022 18:14

“More than one affair? Yes, it does bother me, and it would if she were male.”

^I agree

Questionaboutjoboffer · 02/09/2022 18:15

The fact that she had an affair is low in the pecking order of awful things about her in the role of PM. Hopefully we won’t be stuck with her for too long.

MarshaMelrose · 02/09/2022 18:16

The more recent one(s) if true are not.

So at the moment you're just judging her on gossip. Who is the source of that gossip?

ddl1 · 02/09/2022 18:16

Not really- I care more that she's thick as two short planks, will say or do anything to appease her base, and seems not even to believe in road safety.

And prostitutes. He liked those too.

Still a great politician.

Loics · 02/09/2022 18:17

Like others have said, it's bad, but only one of many awful things about her. Overall, I'm more worried about how she is basically a female Boris, very right-wing, bumbling, clueless and ready to implement things without thinking them through. Although, she will be a godsend for Labour, I think this is the nail in the coffin for the Tories, if she becomes PM. Silver lining and all that.

Bestcatmum · 02/09/2022 18:19

There doesn't seem to be a single person in this shower of crap that isn't an alcoholic or who can keep their trousers on. Yes it does bother me and Im Sick of the lot of them.

illicitinkling · 02/09/2022 18:35

Given my own track record and regular romps with Dan … perhaps I should stand for Parliament - Dan could be my personal adviser - I could be the Minister for Rumpy Pumpy and bored wives - there’d be no time for media games and getting depressed about the cost of living - women would be getting so much fun they’d be perspiring in the heat!!! 😎 electricity and gas switched off!

Anothernamechangeplease · 01/09/2022 00:31

It doesn't help my perception of her, but it is certainly not the worst thing about her. If I thought she had the potential to be a great PM, I would be able to overlook it. As it stands, it just confirms my existing perception that she is a person without integrity.

This pretty much sums up how I feel about it.

illicitinkling · 02/09/2022 18:38

Ah didums @Anothernamechangeplease Liz Truss is going to be a GREAT PM able to side-step Sir Beer Starmer and his shenanigans and Make Britain 🇬🇧 Great Again!!!

TheHateIsNotGood · 02/09/2022 18:40

Nope couldn't give a rat's arse.

Ffs - an adulterous, raging Tory living in cloud cuckoo land. Just when you thought the central office staff couldn’t get any worse.

Endlesssummer2022 · 02/09/2022 18:51

I take the view that if you are willing to lie and cheat on your own family then you will have no qualms about doing it to strangers. I don’t trust cheats and liars anyway but people who fuck over their own family are extra awful.

Verbena87 · 02/09/2022 18:59

I care about her voting history around the domestic abuse bill, and her apparent lack of critical faculties. Who she chooses to fuck is not on my list of concerns.

PinkRiceKrispies · 02/09/2022 19:00

More surprised she is only 47!

Blossomtoes · 02/09/2022 19:26

Indeed. When I told my son she’s the same age as him he nearly fell off his chair.

CanThisBe · 02/09/2022 19:30

I'm no Truss fan but the misogyny directed at her is appalling and so much of it from women!

She's clearly not stupid, she got into Oxford from a comprehensive school. She's socially awkward and has a foot in mouth tendency, is not a slick presenter, which we seem to accept as almost endearing in male politicians but not, apparently, in women.

And women are criticising the fact that she's not as young looking as other celebrity women her age? Even if it's true, WTF?
