Help me get some mental clarity Mnetters.

DH and I have 2 DC 3 and 9 months. Thinking of grabbing a cheap bit of winter sun in Nov, all inclusive 4/5*.

want it to be mid 20s at least to have lounge by pool/ beach and not do a lot else sort of hols. Basically 0 intention of leaving the hotel compound/ beach area somewhere that can’t be walked to.

talked to DM about you know as light convo and she balked at the destinations. Insisting they weren’t safe, hygiene would be poor, health care should anything happen would be insufficient and that it’s tantamount to neglect and me putting my selfish need/ want for a hols about my kids welfare, it’s just got me questioning myself.

looking at -
hurgurda in Egypt
looked at and dismissed Ayala and izmir as I think they aren’t that warm in nov
cape verde
dubai ( unlikely as seems pricey but maybe can find a deal)

shes being ridiculous right? Would you take your kids here? I just need to soundboard that these are perfectly legit places to take kids.

Some of the seas around the resorts in Cape Verde are very dangerous. My brother just returned from a holiday there & wouldn't let his teenage kids in the sea. People were carried out on stretchers on a couple of occasions. Just check the beach reviews carefully!

Littlepaws18 · 28/08/2022 21:50

I looked at Cape Verde with four children and the jabs you need to go is insane. We decided not to put the kids through that.

ILoveMonday · 28/08/2022 21:50

I think your kids are too young for those countries. It will be stressful, no-one speaks the language and it's a long way from home if there's a problem. If you just want to lie by a pool what's the point? I second Cyprus or if you're desperate to go further, Morrocco would be better. It's just that little bit closer. November it's still properly warm.

I know what you've just said about Oman, but Muscat. We lived in ME, and it was honestly the best place we visited.
Bahrain might meet your requirements, if you are near heathrow, as think that is the only direct UK flight.

I wouldn't go to Egypt.

id one million per cent go back to oman. I just made a cultural boo boo out of ignorance in quite a conservative area. In general I love the Middle East

Op have you looked at Senegal? Tui are flying there this winter as a new destination for them.

Sadly no where near lol but Bahrain holds a soft spot in my heart, bit of a long flight though. God this is hard lol

Bahrain is shorter flight than Dubai - if you get a direct plane.

DmitriMendeleev · 28/08/2022 22:00

I wouldn't go to Cape Verde with children as the healthcare is non existent and on our welcome meeting were warned that anything serious results in an airlift to the Csnary Islands.

chilliesandspices · 28/08/2022 21:09

Personally I loved Egypt (the only place in the world I've been 3 times). Cape Verde was too windy and I ended up covered in sand because of sunscreen. Hated the canaries because I'm vegetarian and the vegetables were all canned. Both in the all inclusive and when I got fed up and ventured to a local restaurant.

Not sure which bit you were in - when we went, we had a villa & went to the local supermarket, loads of fresh fruit & veg - we had salads & BBQs most days.

Lalliella · 28/08/2022 22:08

Dubai isn’t safe for the slaves building it. But that probably isn’t what you’re asking.

I’d go to Cape Verde or the Canaries.

Porcupineintherough · 28/08/2022 22:17

I can't believe people are suggesting Cape Verde w young children. Malaria kills children, esp the under 5s. Do you really want to go somewhere that requires a whole range of vaccinations plus anti malarial tablets just for a bit of sun?

Dreamingcats · 28/08/2022 22:22

If you didn't like Sharm, I think Hurgada is similar? I loved Egypt but not those resorts.

I hate Dubai, so I'd chose Cape Verde!

How about Madeira?

Porcupineintherough · 28/08/2022 22:22

Minniem2020 · 28/08/2022 21:54

Op have you looked at Senegal? Tui are flying there this winter as a new destination for them.

And again. West Africa is a wonderful place with a whole host of tropical diseases and limited healthcare. If you are interested in the culture it might be worth risking that, although not with such tiny children. But for a week of sun?

I've just come back from 3 weeks in sub- Saharan Africa with my 16 and 14 year olds - first time I've dared take them travelling there. Had a great time but they both ended up in hospital with dysentery during the course of the holiday.

CatherinedeBourgh · 28/08/2022 22:26

I've been to Hurgada and tbh the beaches are not that great, although the diving is fantastic. Wasn't that warm when I went either, and the water would concern me with babies.

I think for what you want at that time of year it would have to be the caribbean or maldives/seychelles if budget allows. There are lots of destinations in the caribbean which will offer the kind of thing you want in a range of different budgets and are really safe.

friskybivalves · 28/08/2022 22:28

Madeira is a bonkers landing.

Muscat/Oman is stunning. Not cheap though.

A Dead Sea resort in Jordan - Movenpick or similar?

Elsiid · 28/08/2022 22:29

Cyprus can be very rainy in November. We lived there for 10 years and it's hit or miss.

Cape Verde wasn't great either, very windy, sea too dangerous to swim in a lot of the time and a brothel with very very young girls just outside the 5* TUI complex, that TUI reps just said oh yes don't walk down that street. Hotel was just about okay but none of us would go back.

Didn't like Egypt much either, sea was warm but armed guards on the gates but just sitting around playing cards. Anyone wanting to get past them could do easily. Staff didn't seem friendly either.

Canaries aren't my favourite place either but weather is an issue most places that isn't a long flight.

November is a funny one. Can you move it to October and go for a very southern part of Turkey or Greece?

Unfortunately not, apparently dh big project needs to land in oct… so annoying as we were all set with Izmir before

I’d do Canaries OP, Costa Adeje specifically. And did at this age. I recommend Baobab Suites or Hotel Suites Villa Maria.

I don’t like the Canaries much either but you said you are planning to stay entirely in resort so does it matter? Surely you’d choose based on safety, short flight and no jet lag if you just want sun and a resort.

I wouldn’t bother with UAE, Florida, Caribbean as the flight and jetlag with small ones would be hellish.

In N Africa tummy bugs would be a concern tbh. I picked up something nasty in Marrakech and I usually have a cast iron travel stomach.

If you want to go further afield my next suggestion would be Mauritius- great family friendly resorts (Beachcomber chain are great for kids). Long flight but can fly overnight and no jetlag.

Anyway, enjoy!

friskybivalves · 28/08/2022 22:32

sorry - meant to say you could do a Dead Sea/Red Sea combo in Jordan. Aqaba as well at the kempinski or something might work depending on your budget.

I’ve actually stayed in that hotel the movenpick Dead Sea and Red Sea. Loved it! Might fall outside our modest budget though.

looks like it’s Barry island for us, in November… beautiful. Winge winge winge

Aqaba, on the red sea in Jordan? I've only passed through but it looked smart, will have nice weather

Emanresu9 · 28/08/2022 22:33

Cape Verde yes, but I wouldn’t go anywhere near Egypt. And I did visit Egypt in the 90s so not against it in principle.

Redburnett · 28/08/2022 22:35

I love Red Sea resorts in Egypt but there is absolutely no way I would take such young DC to them.

Absolutely gorgeous, I learned to dive there and Jordanians were incredibly friendly. Highly recommend but might be too costly. We want to do WDW florida Next Nov so we’re saving for that (plus the winter) :( just need sometbing to look forward too, been a crappy year

Yeah the tummy bugs worry me.

epypt got me good before. I won’t elaborate too much, but on a snorkel boat in the Red Sea… less than ideal. Really don’t want that with such small kids.

anyone know the hottest canary island? Might have to revisit that idea I poo poo’d
