Help me get some mental clarity Mnetters.

DH and I have 2 DC 3 and 9 months. Thinking of grabbing a cheap bit of winter sun in Nov, all inclusive 4/5*.

want it to be mid 20s at least to have lounge by pool/ beach and not do a lot else sort of hols. Basically 0 intention of leaving the hotel compound/ beach area somewhere that can’t be walked to.

talked to DM about you know as light convo and she balked at the destinations. Insisting they weren’t safe, hygiene would be poor, health care should anything happen would be insufficient and that it’s tantamount to neglect and me putting my selfish need/ want for a hols about my kids welfare, it’s just got me questioning myself.

looking at -
hurgurda in Egypt
looked at and dismissed Ayala and izmir as I think they aren’t that warm in nov
cape verde
dubai ( unlikely as seems pricey but maybe can find a deal)

shes being ridiculous right? Would you take your kids here? I just need to soundboard that these are perfectly legit places to take kids.

We’ve taken our kids to some far flung places. I went to Egypt around 15 years ago but I would not go now and definitely not with kids.

Thisisanewnamename · 28/08/2022 21:20

Ideally ideally would prefer a Muslim country so we can eat anything there but can be swayed if it’s a banging hotel

What about Malta.

Low 20s google told me

MintyGreenDreams · 28/08/2022 21:22

@Jjones8 why wouldn't you go now out of interest?

Afterfire · 28/08/2022 21:26

Join some of the various Tui and Jet2 groups on Facebook. Most of the complaints are about holidays in Egypt and Cape Verde. (Dirty, food poisoning so severe requiring hospitalisation, men hassling teenage girls even in resort, different standards re expectations etc, etc etc) and lots of complaints that there’s nothing to do in cape and you can’t even go in the sea due to strong currents. Doesn’t sound fun!

Jjones8 · 28/08/2022 21:29

High risk of terrorism - check out the global terrorism index.

MintyGreenDreams · 28/08/2022 21:29

@Afterfire I didn't experience anything like that or saw anyone being pervy ever and there were a lot of young girls there.

Fair enough. That is good - but it’s not the experience of many people on the Facebook groups.

We've taken the children to a lovely hotel in the UAE, only snag was getting the kids their holiday vaccinations 💉

I wouldn't do Egypt atm. Have done in the past though with no issues.

What about Thailand?

mnahmnah · 28/08/2022 21:34

What about the Azores or Madeira?

Thisisanewnamename · 28/08/2022 21:34

I will say, that I’ve been to a lot of the countries in the mena region and the only ones I felt letched on were Tunisia and Egypt and sort of oman but I walked in through the mens entrance to a restaurant by accident but that was more outrage rather than perved on

OP posts:
mnahmnah · 28/08/2022 21:34

Or Morocco!

amicissimma · 28/08/2022 21:34

Marrakech? Or Tunisia would be a little warmer.

EadnothTheStaller · 28/08/2022 21:35

Have you looked at Eilat?

Israel. Right down south on the Red Sea.

Hbh17 · 28/08/2022 21:39

Hurghada will be absolutely fine, and you would be supporting a country that needs the tourists back, so doing a good thing.
Dubai is a bit dubious, for ethical reasons.

maddiemookins16mum · 28/08/2022 21:40

Cyprus in early Nov will still be warm. Modern, great hotels, very good medical facilities.
or
what about Israel (Eilat/red sea).

LionessesRules · 28/08/2022 21:41

I know what you've just said about Oman, but Muscat. We lived in ME, and it was honestly the best place we visited.
Bahrain might meet your requirements, if you are near heathrow, as think that is the only direct UK flight.

I wouldn't go to Egypt.

Lineala · 28/08/2022 21:43

Sprig1 · 28/08/2022 20:31

I have been to Egypt twice in the last 3 yrs. I don't know why people are saying they wouldn't go. You are probably more at risk of terrorism in your UK departure airport than you are in a major resort in Egypt. We have always felt completely safe and had a great time. It represents excellent value for money.

With respect, this is bollocks.

Quackpot · 28/08/2022 21:46

Cape Verde health care isn't great by all accounts, but I would go if the whole party was in general good health with no pre existing conditions.
I wouldn't go anywhere in the UAE due to conflict of ethics.
Egypt isn't safe.

That said, I've noticed holidays to Gambia coming up on TUI lately so it appears people will go anywhere.....

CoffeeNeeded2019 · 28/08/2022 21:47

I’d go for the canaries ; safe and mid 20’s every time we’ve been in November (4 times) - perfect for beach / pool /sun bathing etc and not too hot for the kids - just take a cardi for the evenings

incidentally I’d been put off from a few awful childhood holidays to Tenerife/Lanzarote , but it turns out lots changes in 25-30 years!

7eleven · 28/08/2022 21:47

I was on a sun lounger enjoying 25 degrees in Gran Canaria last November.
