Help me get some mental clarity Mnetters.

DH and I have 2 DC 3 and 9 months. Thinking of grabbing a cheap bit of winter sun in Nov, all inclusive 4/5*.

want it to be mid 20s at least to have lounge by pool/ beach and not do a lot else sort of hols. Basically 0 intention of leaving the hotel compound/ beach area somewhere that can’t be walked to.

talked to DM about you know as light convo and she balked at the destinations. Insisting they weren’t safe, hygiene would be poor, health care should anything happen would be insufficient and that it’s tantamount to neglect and me putting my selfish need/ want for a hols about my kids welfare, it’s just got me questioning myself.

looking at -
hurgurda in Egypt
looked at and dismissed Ayala and izmir as I think they aren’t that warm in nov
cape verde
dubai ( unlikely as seems pricey but maybe can find a deal)

shes being ridiculous right? Would you take your kids here? I just need to soundboard that these are perfectly legit places to take kids.

If you don’t like the Canaries, you won’t like Cape Verde. Have you been to all the Canary Islands?

38daystogo · 28/08/2022 20:54

I know you might not want the long flight but in Nov and if it really is your only option there's no way I would be risking the canaries it would have to be a Carribean Island. Jamaica or Domician Republic .

Both of those are crazy dangerous right? ive been punta Cana and we had to be escorted around by armed guards, it was really intimidating

canaries just aren’t warm enough I don’t think 😭

Luxembourgmama · 28/08/2022 20:58

I'd only go to cap Verde from that list

I’ve definitely been to Tenerife, lanzarote and fuetorventura and I think one more who’s name escapes me, definitely been to those 3. I’ve really really negative association with them from awful childhood hols, can’t go back

I was in Tenerife in November and it was 25/26 every day.

howdidigethere · 28/08/2022 20:58

Cape Verde is made up of several islands and the main ones for package holidays are on Sal and Boa Vista. I hated Sal - literally like a big sandpit, nothing to do or see but if you just want guaranteed sun and to lie by a pool then you'd probably be OK. I don't know what healthcare is like there but it's a pretty poor country.
Just to say (to correct misinformation!) some of the other CV islands are quite lush and scenic. It's not all flat and arid like Sal. However, they are trickier to get to - another flight or ferry from the hub airport.

littlelovely · 28/08/2022 20:58

I would definitely go for the canaries. Pick well, there are some lovely spots if you choose wisely. With babies that young, it’s just a nice safe option and the weather is decent. We enjoyed Tenerife Gran Meliá and Boabab Suites, and also had a nice time in lanzatote.

Thisisanewnamename · 28/08/2022 20:59

Gran Canaria that’s the other one I’ve been to! That’s it!

If you have never been to Cape or Egypt then I doubt you will like them. Egypt is a shithole. If you can afford Dubai then that will be safe and probably still 30 plus. Not sure that heat is great for a baby though.

EcoCustard · 28/08/2022 21:02

Going against the grain here and we regularly visited Egypt pre covid pre kids and a few times with very young Dc. Always had a lovely time and felt very safe & comfortable in resort and out of resort. That was Sharm, Dahab, Marsa Alan & Hurgharda.

MintyGreenDreams · 28/08/2022 21:03

Hurghada is safe and has some stunning hotels.
Me,dh and ds 8 got back 4 days ago.
We've booked for next year.

38daystogo · 28/08/2022 21:04

Where was you going with armed guards? I stayed in the Royalton in Punta Cana in 2019. I loved it flew with only myself and DS for 2 weeks. No issues at all and I met lots of friend Candians.

There's risk all over.

DublinDoris2000 · 28/08/2022 21:04

I wouldn't go to Egypt with young kids. I went their a while ago and had many scam attempts (taxis/shops/'tour guides') and got groped on the street in the middle of the day. You'd be sheltered from this in a resort but I'd stick to somewhere less challenging for a short family holiday.

springerb88 · 28/08/2022 21:05

Are you sure about the "being escorted by armed guards in punta Cana" comment....hmmm

Joonio · 28/08/2022 21:06

Oman is safe if you don't mind the flight. Kids that age are better and safer at home.

MintyGreenDreams · 28/08/2022 21:06

Friendliest staff I've ever encountered on a holiday and the hotel was the cleanest weve been in.We stayed in a 5 star though so can't comment on 3 or 4.

Shopping centre in 2010 perhaps prior to it becoming more touristy but we had to be escorted around with the armed security in small groups around the local shopping centre (clothes had got lost in transit) aside from that we were told not to leave the hotel

I love Egypt. But Hurgharda is the worse place I've ever been. I had a terrible holiday there.

chilliesandspices · 28/08/2022 21:09

Personally I loved Egypt (the only place in the world I've been 3 times). Cape Verde was too windy and I ended up covered in sand because of sunscreen. Hated the canaries because I'm vegetarian and the vegetables were all canned. Both in the all inclusive and when I got fed up and ventured to a local restaurant.

armed security might be a better way of putting it but yeah, many years ago now though

I can't speak for Egypt as I've not been, but I was in Tenerife last November. Weather mid 20s the whole time, perfect for sunbathing. I've been to the Canaries in October, November, January, February and March and had great weather every time

PegasusReturns · 28/08/2022 20:30

I wouldn’t go to Egypt.

Not sure canaries are hot enough.

Dubai is perfectly safe and the weather will be the nicest of your options

Canaries definitely hot enough for pool lounging in November -we do it every December in Tenerife

Wonnle · 28/08/2022 21:18

Better off going to Canvey

Google has told me it’s low 20s
