Help me get some mental clarity Mnetters.

DH and I have 2 DC 3 and 9 months. Thinking of grabbing a cheap bit of winter sun in Nov, all inclusive 4/5*.

want it to be mid 20s at least to have lounge by pool/ beach and not do a lot else sort of hols. Basically 0 intention of leaving the hotel compound/ beach area somewhere that can’t be walked to.

talked to DM about you know as light convo and she balked at the destinations. Insisting they weren’t safe, hygiene would be poor, health care should anything happen would be insufficient and that it’s tantamount to neglect and me putting my selfish need/ want for a hols about my kids welfare, it’s just got me questioning myself.

looking at -
hurgurda in Egypt
looked at and dismissed Ayala and izmir as I think they aren’t that warm in nov
cape verde
dubai ( unlikely as seems pricey but maybe can find a deal)

shes being ridiculous right? Would you take your kids here? I just need to soundboard that these are perfectly legit places to take kids.

Where’d you go @Sprig1 ?

Sharm this year and Marsa Alam pre-covid.

Suzi888 · 28/08/2022 20:43

The Canaries aren’t great in November- at least not guaranteed sun. Fuertaventura- windy as hell!

RyanYESorNO · 28/08/2022 20:37

Definitely wouldn't go to Egypt myself, never mind with young kids.

Dubai, probably fine and there's probably great health care there if insured. But I'd just not ever go there for a number of other reasons.

Cape Verde, I've always dismissed as a holiday destination as its just so barren and nothing to do, but if you literally are not leaving the hotel, then I think it would be great for the weather you want (Although I've heard the beaches can be very windy). I think your mum may have a point though about health care. Have you looked at what is available in terms emergency care so that you can address her concerns? Although still very unlikely, accidents are actually more likely to happen on holiday as you're in an unfamiliar environment and more likely to take risks you wouldn't at home. Or if the children came down with something serious. Maybe they have great health care on Cape Verde, but it just seems to me as a place of nothing!

Canaries Islands is the usual choice of people wanting winter sun, although not guaranteed. And Florida the next popular choice.

Would love Florida but it’s too pricey and we want to go next year, just want relatively cheap luxury for now to get away from how sodding depressing the UK is right now… it’s not too much to ask right 🥹

Stick to Bognor if you’re gonna even think about being unsafe.

ForestDad · 28/08/2022 20:44

Had a great time in hurghada this year. More hotel choice so you're more likely to get something ideal for you and family i.e something for everyone.

Cape Verde ok but pretty dull.

Try a Greek island or Majorca or similar.

That’s what I was thinking too but I’m a stress head so the comments have worried me

Sorry to break it to you but I think a lot of MN hold the exact same stance about Egypt Turkey and Dubai wellll don't even get me started. You soon will get clarity same as your DM.

Can you do Antalya in October that's one of the warmest parts.

Malad · 28/08/2022 20:47

I wouldn’t go to Egypt or Cape Verde. I got a really bad stomach in Egypt that kept me in my room for 5 days. That was in a 5 star big name brand hotel too! Cape Verde wasn’t for me. I found it desolate, too windy and just not that attractive.

if you want Warm Weather and child friendly resorts, stick to the Canaries.

I don’t really like the canaries

food hygiene standards are shocking in most Egyptian resorts. Google food poisoning Egypt.
Cape Verde is (apparently) dull, windy and quite bland.
Dubai has appalling human rights towards many ethnic groups, women and homosexuals.

just go to the canaries!

noclothesinbed · 28/08/2022 20:48

Egypt no way and too long on a plane with young children. I would stick to Tenerife or canaries much safer and nearer too.

Tui told me it was 22 degrees in November bit too chilly to be at the pool and on the beach all day!

wish we could do oct but dh has some work commitments apparently

As long as you've got travel insurance they'll all be fine. You'd be treated in a private hospital, unlikely to be one locals use.

Apart from the fact their ethics may be a bit different.

I know someone who unfortunately had a stroke in Turkey. Got good medical care but their way of dealing with the patient being a bit agitated was to tie them to the bed!. Poor person was traumatised for months

Sickoffamilydrama · 28/08/2022 20:50

I'll 2nd Cyprus, I'm there at the moment and forgot how much the Cypriot people love children, the health care is good and it is very safe.

I would avid Egypt, I went once, never again, not safe!

dubai is safe.

Itwasntright · 28/08/2022 20:52

Id go to cyprus. The weather should be good at the time of year and its very safe.

Definitely wouldn't go to Egypt.

bettbburg · 28/08/2022 20:52

I would go to Cape Verde but remember there is no hospital there as far as I recall, it might not be ideal if you have any medical issues.

Frazzled2207 · 28/08/2022 20:52

I’ve been to Egypt and wouldn’t take kids there. Had bad tummy trouble and unwanted attention (I was by myself, with a dh in tow it might be better).

Dubai no way but friends have been and liked it.

cap verde doesn’t sound my cup of tea at all but I imagine it’s quite safe.

Whataboutitthen · 28/08/2022 20:52

Marrakech

Mrsmch123 · 28/08/2022 20:53

Wouldn't go to Egypt again as I thought it was grim. I would go to Dubai or the canaries

yeah I hated sharm but the tui hurgurda hotels looked nice and not too costly either… gonna be costa del Manchester at this rate 🥲

I know you might not want the long flight but in Nov and if it really is your only option there's no way I would be risking the canaries it would have to be a Carribean Island. Jamaica or Domician Republic .
