Do introverts prefer autumn/winter more?

If you’re a quieter, more introverted person, do you prefer the colder months?
I feel I used to adore summer when younger and more outgoing, but now sort of welcome autumn and winter in more.
Less pressure to be out doing things than on sunny days, I can hide away at home, hide away in winter clothes, less people around (I live in a tourist place) and less going out.
Am I a weirdo 🤣

Yes!

It feels like a big blanket wrapped around me. Spring and summer just feels like someone is shining a giant torch at me and I hate it.

dudsville · 28/08/2022 17:52

I love a quiet sunny day at home with the windows open and a good book. Quiet and peaceful and I can hear the birds!

Spidermanagain · 28/08/2022 17:58

@dudsville That is lovely, but it’s never that quiet when the suns out where I am 🙈At least it’s it’s pouring down there’s peace…that sounds so miserable 🤣

There's no such thing as an introvert.

People like what they like.

You have described it so well! That's exactly how I feel.

justforthisnow · 28/08/2022 18:03

As an introvert, yes, I love September October months the most. The drawing in of the evenings, the cosiness, the curtains closed, just love it. It feels more mystical? But that could just be me.

There most certainly such a thing as an introvert. What do you mean?

BrokenCopper · 28/08/2022 18:04

I am a super introvert, I enjoy summer. I avoid busy places all together.

mast0650 · 28/08/2022 18:04

Yes to what @Wickywickyyow said. Very well described. I feel more pressure to relax and have fun in the summer, in a way that is not conduicive to me relaxing and having fun at all! But I have at least one friend who is definitely an introvert but also strongly prefers the warm, sunny months. I'd say she possibly suffers from SAD, or something close to it.

MovieQueen12 · 28/08/2022 18:04

I think so. I hate summer. The heat, the pressure of bring out all the time and socialising. My idea of heaven is having a whole afternoon/evening, alone, with lots of snacks, netflix and my warm bed. Feels more acceptable to do that in the colder months. That's if they ever get here. September next week and still showing as warm.

Minimochi · 28/08/2022 18:05

No, I definitely prefer summer.
However, we've got a lovely garden, with a pool. I can just float about in peace. Our neighbours don't tend to be in their gardens and there are high bushes and trees all around, so nobody can really see into the garden. I like warm, sunny weather. 30+ degrees and I'm in my happy place.
Temperatures drop to -20 here in winter and I hate it. Hate wearing ski trousers and a thick coat to play outside with DS. Makes me feel trapped and sweaty.

I mean it's cod psychology invented by advertisers. I find it incredible that people are basing their identity and sense of self on such nonsense.

DatingIsDifficult · 28/08/2022 18:11

Yes! Autumn and winter are dark, cloudy, grey, curtains shut, lots of clothes, scarves etc whereas summer is like a spotlight, that’s a good analogy. If I lived somewhere peaceful it wouldn’t be so bad but summer where I live is dogs barking, people playing shit music in the garden, shouting in the garden, tutting at the sound of my lawnmower, flesh everywhere, teenagers hanging around bored, and it’s just not my cup of tea really. Life begins on September 1st and the next five months is heavenly.

LordEmsworth · 28/08/2022 18:15

"I'm an introvert and I prefer autumn, therefore I know without a doubt that all introverts prefer autumn and all extraverts prefer summer, there is no other alternative. If you are an introvert who likes summer,I know you are lying about one of those things" 🙄

ManateeFair · 28/08/2022 18:16

I’m extremely introverted and I do somewhat prefer autumn/winter, but my dad and brother are also introverts and they much prefer summer.

Exactly.
What a load of shite.

@guymontag @StandingStill who's who?

Rigidity · 28/08/2022 18:21

I like the quiet of winter. Bored retired neighbour puts his power tools away and I can't hear the whiny child next door constantly as they finally close their doors and windows (they like to make sure the whole street hears their entire lives Hmm). Bring it on.

Introvert and extrovert were terms coined by the eminent psychologist Carl Jung at least a century ago. Nothing to do with advertising or marketing and not ‘cod psychology’.

I assume you are confusing this with Myers-Briggs personality types, which are something completely different. MB types include introversion and extroversion but also combine them with a load of other stuff. In fact, the I/E part of Myers-Briggs is actually the only bit that does have any validity.

Not that any of this matters in a light thread about seasons. But some people apparently can’t just let people enjoy a harmless chat, so…

FuzzyPuffling · 28/08/2022 18:26

I'm an introvert and Spring is my favourite season.
But I agree about too many people in the summer. I can't wait for the schools to go back so the beaches are quieter.

DragonsAndMoons · 28/08/2022 18:28

December is one big socialising month for most though isn't it? Christmas work party, christmas drinks, NYE, more drinks and friends and that's not starting on family.

I socialise loads in autumn as well as there's so much to do - Halloween party, bonfire night, pumpkin carving, plenty of walks.

January to March is where it goes quiet.

SeptimusWarrenSmith · 28/08/2022 18:28

I don't like noisy neighbours and I have hay fever.

On the other hand I like my friends.

Am I am introvert or an extrovert? It's all so difficult.

spiderlight · 28/08/2022 18:29

Yes, absolutely! In summer, I always feel as if I'm expected to be Making The Most Of It, but I hate hot weather and bright sun gives me migraines. I feel much more comfortable outdoors in autumn and winter, and less of a misery when I'm at home with a book.

PlanetNormal · 28/08/2022 18:31

I’m an introvert and I enjoy spring, summer & autumn for different reasons. The wether is good, the days are long, I can get out & about going places & doing stuff. Not necessarily sociable stuff, though.

Winter is my least favourite season. I don’t mind the cold but I hate the short dark days and I absolutely detest bloody Christmas which is the only time of year I dread.
