Do introverts prefer autumn/winter more?

If you’re a quieter, more introverted person, do you prefer the colder months?
I feel I used to adore summer when younger and more outgoing, but now sort of welcome autumn and winter in more.
Less pressure to be out doing things than on sunny days, I can hide away at home, hide away in winter clothes, less people around (I live in a tourist place) and less going out.
Am I a weirdo 🤣

Yes!

It feels like a big blanket wrapped around me. Spring and summer just feels like someone is shining a giant torch at me and I hate it.

A big blanket is how I describe it too! I love dark afternoons; I feel safe from the sun. I used to love the warmer months but not any more.

Whether or not the psychology experts on here can agree to label me as an introvert, I prefer being alone, need time to get over seeing other people, and have totally and utterly had it with the sound of shouty humans and their terrible Spotify playlists by the end of August every year :)

Goldmember · 28/08/2022 19:50

No, I love Summer. Sitting outside with a book. Beautiful blue skies and warmth on my skin. I don't go anywhere just for the sake of it though.

SprinkleOfSunak · 28/08/2022 19:52

Yes, definitely! I detest Summer, and even Spring annoys me, as you have to wear less clothing and everyone is talking about Summer!

HannahSternDefoe · 28/08/2022 19:55

Ab-so-flippin'-lutely!
I hate summer. It never goes properly dark. Mornings are ok until around 7am when everyone starts to get up (I'm up by 4am to make the most of it) I will miss the cricket though.
Give me dark nights, a couple of tealights, a fleecy blanket, gloves, coat, scarf.

etulosba · 28/08/2022 19:57

Autumn is the worst season for me.

A big blanket of gloom.

RampantIvy · 28/08/2022 20:02

DH is an extreme introvert and prefers summer, but we do live somewhere where it is quiet. We also have quiet neighbours.

DD is an introvert and likes autumn best of all, but that is mainly because she can't tolerate very hot weather and suffers from hayfever.

Im introverted but a lot of people confuse social anxiety or being anti social as introversion.

I like people being introverted doesn’t make you a recluse and hate people, just means it’s draining when I do spend time interacting .

season wise I prefer winter but I don’t think it’s anything to do with introversion but more my love of winter sports/activities

Yes I was thinking exactly this! I’m introverted in that I need to recharge at home in my own space whereas I’m quite social and love seeing friends. Extroverts get their energy from social situations in comparison. However I do love autumn. I also find my social needs change depending on time of year!

Jalepenojello · 28/08/2022 20:05

I’m an introvert, and no.

I used to prefer winter as it posed less challenges to my extreme anxiety around socialising and leaving the house. Much easier to excuse myself for hiding at home for months hiding behind dark nights, cold wet weather. And I realised it wasn’t healthy at all but I only realised this with hindsight.

I worked on my anxiety a lot and now I love bright nights and early sunrises.

I am still an introvert.

Absolutely! Summer leaves me feeling terribly exposed, then there's all that enforced 'fun' we're expected to have when the sun is out. I much prefer to slink around in the shadows of autumn and winter.

EatingWormsMichael · 28/08/2022 20:09

I'm an introvert who likes fresh air and nature to recharge so I probably prefer spring and summer when it's a pleasure to pop out. But I do like the cosiness of autumn winter. I love living in a country with seasons!

megletthesecond · 28/08/2022 20:10

No. Hate the darker months. There's more space and freedom in summer.

IodineQueen · 28/08/2022 20:20

I’m a fairly extreme introvert and agree. I live somewhere that gets very busy in the summer. The crowds and constant noise and activities make me retreat more, then I feel sad because I think I must be a proper weirdo. I often feel depressed in the summer months and come alive again at the beginning of the autumn. The light is different too, paler. I love being able to go out for a walk on a crisp sunny day and not be surrounded by people. I also like the dark nights… they’re like a cozy cocoon. I feel like I can be me without feeling bad about being me, if that makes sense. Smile

As an introvert, yes, I love September October months the most. The drawing in of the evenings, the cosiness, the curtains closed, just love it. It feels more mystical? But that could just be me.

Yes! This is me. But I also love November & December. And Jan & feb 😂

I am very antisocial, there is a lot of pressure to be out and about during the summer.

I love the dark nights. The coziness. The big, thick duvets. Warm boots & chunky jumpers. It's quite magical.

Suzi7979 · 28/08/2022 20:27

Yes, September and October are my favorite months. I hate summer.

Tangled123 · 28/08/2022 20:30

No, I’m an introvert and I hate winter. I don’t cope well with the cold, and long nights depress me.

I have a huge lack of energy and motivation during winter, so I generally sit about the house bored, getting really claustrophobic and annoyed with my family. At least in Summer, the weather is good enough that I can go outside and escape them from a bit.
I live in a low population density area so it’s easy to avoid crowds when I want.

transformandriseup · 28/08/2022 20:45

I love a quiet sunny day at home with the windows open and a good book. Quiet and peaceful and I can hear the birds!

I love summer and sitting in my garden in the evenings listening to the wood pigeons. I live in a rural village though so fairly quiet anyway.

lurchermummy · 28/08/2022 20:56

No I'm an extrovert and like the cooler weather but I'm fat and find hot weather hard to cope with

sunshineandshowers40 · 28/08/2022 20:57

I'm an introvert and love summer absolutely hate winter.

doingitforyorkshire · 28/08/2022 20:59

Introvert here, I love autumn and spring best, not so keen of winter, don't like the cold. Like summer, I just don't do what the herd does or go where its busy.
If I see folk going one way I seem to naturally pull the opposite way. No matter what the season.

springisaroundthecorner · 28/08/2022 21:25

Definitely. I love autumn and winter. When the kids go back to school, everything is back to normal. I can go to many places and there are no crowds. It's bliss. Long summer days and warm/hot weather just make me so tired. In cooler weather I feel energetic and happy

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 28/08/2022 21:35

This is going to sound very twee and smug, but I’ve sort of trained myself to like all of the seasons. I’m a mixture of mostly introvert and a little bit of extrovert I think.

What I don’t like is: 1. Working in a hot office when it’s really hot, 2. Waiting for and walking to public transport etc in the cold and rain. But not sure anyone likes that!

CityKittie · 28/08/2022 21:59

I’m very introverted but prefer spring/summer months. I enjoy being outside and going for long walks. I love that work is slightly less intense as people are away which means less meetings etc. I also have awfully dry skin (eczema and psoriasis) which always improves in mild weather and is rubbish in the cold which really affects my mood.
In winter I can really tend to hunker down and not leave the house which isn’t great for my mental health. I’ve had periods of depression and whilst locking yourself into a cave all winter feels safe - over time I’ve left that it does me no good - and I need time out in the world.

GuyMontag · 28/08/2022 18:00

There's no such thing as an introvert.

People like what they like.

What an odd, and untrue, remark.

But to answer the question: I'm an introvert and I absolutely hate the winter, and am not that keen on autumn as it signals the end of being able to do things like sit outside. I have SAD which really doesn't help, but also I just blossom outdoors in the summer. Life feels two-dimensional in colder weather. It's not really the cold that's the problem - it's the darkness, which sometimes feels intolerable to me in the depths of winter. I have a lightbox and try to get as much natural light as possible, but it doesn't help much. Maybe I'm the exception that proves the rule. wry smile

BabyShaark · 28/08/2022 22:12

I’m definitely an introvert and I love spring and summer

SomethingFast · 28/08/2022 22:17

No, I find Autumn overwhelming depressing and winter only slightly better. Spring is my favourite.
