Do introverts prefer autumn/winter more?

If you’re a quieter, more introverted person, do you prefer the colder months?
I feel I used to adore summer when younger and more outgoing, but now sort of welcome autumn and winter in more.
Less pressure to be out doing things than on sunny days, I can hide away at home, hide away in winter clothes, less people around (I live in a tourist place) and less going out.
Am I a weirdo 🤣

I'm majorly introverted and actually prefer spring/summer! I feel like spring is so full of hope, and summer just makes me feel good with the long warm evenings and sunlight coming through the windows at 5am.

Last year, I adopted my first dog and the summer was SO amazing - taking him out to all these new parks, spontaneous afternoon trips during the work week to make the most of the weather, loads of playdates, hiking trip in the Lakes, etc. I was legit depressed when autumn hit - I hated it! I was convinced I had SAD.

Yet this summer, the novelty of all the parks within a 45min radius has worn off and we just couldn't be bothered! 😂I basically can't wait for autumn, because I feel like I'll have less of The Guilt about not doing anything, haha. Honestly just can't wait to wear hoodies again and not have to shave my legs. Who even am I right now?

Arnaquer · 28/08/2022 22:55

No I don't!

Dazedandconfused10 · 28/08/2022 23:01

I do all my socialising in the summer, then hibernate for autumn and winter. My friends know not to expect anything from me during colder months

Baoing · 28/08/2022 23:02

I mean it's cod psychology invented by advertisers

I don't understand this...what advertisers? Who's making money out of labelling people introverts?

Anyway... autumn and winter all the way, every day. I'm an introvert. I have great social skills, but prefer not to use them much Grin

mast0650 · 29/08/2022 11:57

"I'm an introvert and I prefer autumn, therefore I know without a doubt that all introverts prefer autumn and all extraverts prefer summer, there is no other alternative. If you are an introvert who likes summer,I know you are lying about one of those things"

Nobody has said this, or implied it?

RampantIvy · 29/08/2022 12:10

I think some people just prefer colder, duller, more miserable weather, and some don't. I don't think it has anything to do with introvert or extrovert.

I think a lot of posters on MN who romanticise about autumn and winter live in areas (probably in the south of the UK) where autumn and winter isn't as miserable as it is where we live. I love a bright, crisp autumn and winter day, but they are very rare round here (edge of Pennines in Yorkshire).

With the energy crisis looming I wonder how many winter lovers will be looking as forward to it this year?

@guymontag @StandingStill who's who?

Well, quite!

Whichever you are, please stop claiming your opinion (because that's all it is) is hard fact.

This. Thoughts of roaring fires, long walks scuffling through autumn leaves and crisp-yet-sunny winter days are appealing, but the reality here at least (Midlands) tends more often to be drizzle, sogginess and the sky being that awful grey-whitish colour most of the time. Only Christmas (which I love) gets me through the misery that is winter for me.

Possibly, but I'm in the north, and I LOVE a bleak, dreich, grey day, and well as the crisp, bright ones Grin

lollipoprainbow · 29/08/2022 13:55

Yes I always feel I have to be out doing things in the summer, when it's cold and rainy I can stay home without feeling guilty.

jay55 · 29/08/2022 13:59

I like the long evenings of summer.

I hate December and how busy the shops are and forced social events and the wet weather.

The very first word of the very first response, to the question "do introverts prefer autumn/winter more" is: "Yes!". There then follows a slew of posts saying "well I'm an introvert and I do", which strongly implies a "therefore you are right". Not one of them says: well I'm an introvert and I do but that might just be coincidence.

So actually quite a lot of people have said or implied this...

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 29/08/2022 14:05

I'm an introvert and I love summer, hate autumn and winter. But I do have a lovely big garden which isn't looked over by any neighbours so I can hide away in my garden.

Delatron · 29/08/2022 14:15

I don’t think it’s introvert/extrovert maybe more active people versus lazier people?

I like the summer evenings being light and warm because I can get out there and do so many more things (not necessarily with other people) -paddle boarding/ walking the dog/ running/ enjoying my garden. In the winter from 4 once it gets dark you can’t really go outside and do loads of active things. I hate driving around in the dark.

All we hear from Winter lovers is about ‘snuggling under a duvet on the sofa’. I would only want to do that for any length of time if I was ill..basically festering under a blanket. But for months and months?

With the energy crisis you’ll all need to be snuggling under more than one blanket. Wonder if Winter will be so popular this year when we’re all freezing and miserable?

JoWawa · 29/08/2022 14:16

Neither

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 29/08/2022 14:31

I'm a massive introvert. I love summer. Reading a book in the garden, having a glass of wine, going walks off the beaten path as it's not too muddy, going cycles. To me, autumn and winter is a series of social events - halloween, bonfire night, all the school and christmas events, christmas parties, new years eve...and then I'm stuck indoors a lot of the time with family so struggle to find any alone time

Baoing · 29/08/2022 14:37

Do you really think that? It's very unlikely, and - obviously - a little offensive. The opposite of active isn't lazy.

I'm a winter loving introvert. I love water sports, running, hiking, yoga and lifting weights all year round.

I imagine that 'snuggling under a duvet' for most people is a small part of enjoying cold weather. It's not a job. It's not hibernation.

GoneWithTheWine1 · 29/08/2022 14:40

Autumn. Because winter I have to socialise with people during Christmas. Envy

nothing to do with being lazier that's ridiculous get off you self aggrandising pedestal.

I'm more active in winter due to winter sports, Snowboarding, because I cannot be outside as much, I spent more time swimming at the local pool. I prefer jogging in winter as in summer its to warm, (early spring and late autumn as well).

Delatron · 29/08/2022 14:52

@Baoing The snuggling under a duvet always seems to feature very highly in the reasons to enjoy Winter. It does sound lazy to me - sorry.
And being ‘cosy’ - what does that even mean? Nobody will be cosy this year with the energy crisis - or maybe just rich people will be cosy.

I still enjoy outdoor activities in Winter. I will concur I prefer winter running. But trying to fit everything else I like to do outdoors in to daylight hours (whilst also working) is harder in the winter. Of course weight lifting will be indoors so that doesn’t count.

Delatron · 29/08/2022 14:55

Right, forgot snowboarding and skiing. Which we all have access to in this country all winter…

I love winter sports as much as the next person. I am directing my comments at the snuggling under a cosy duvet brigade. If you like winter because you have access to snowboarding all winter then I get it. I’d probably love winter if I lived in the Alps…..not dreary non snowy England

Baoing · 29/08/2022 15:00

Right, forgot snowboarding and skiing. Which we all have access to in this country all winter...

You do know about Snowdromes? Plus Scotland is occasionally good for skiing - not for a few years now, but I've had some brilliant skiing in the Cairngorms.

And you didn't direct very obviously your comment to the under-the-duvet lot, you opened with I don’t think it’s introvert/extrovert maybe more active people versus lazier people? which was as broad a brush as possible really.

But anyway.

Not really. Almost half the responses before yours say the opposite. Or say "might just be me".

Delatron · 29/08/2022 15:07

I’m talking about outdoor activities that you can do in the evening outdoors in the light. Ah ok, Scotland was good for skiing a few years ago. Because we all live right by the Cairngorms..Bit irrelevant for most people..

I was very clearly talking about the cosy/snuggling brigade. Just because my opening line didn’t mention them I went on to explain what I meant. And it does sound lazy to me.

TheSandwoman · 29/08/2022 15:14

I am massively introverted and summer is my favourite time of year. But I tend to go to very quiet and secluded beaches etc. Or just soak up the sunshine and relax in my garden. I hate being cold but love to be outside.

In winter I hide in the house as much as possible. Clear sunny days where you can wrap up are ok, but wet/ windy/ overcast days are a sensory nightmare and very oppressive. I cope by lighting the fire, fluffy blankets, nice warming food. But it is basically hibernation.

I'm confused why you think introverted would correlate with a preference for winter? You don't have to see people at any time of year. In fact in winter it's worse as it often means meeting inside and having visitors to your house rather than meeting people outside somewhere, where you can escape back to your quiet space at home whenever you want to.
