I love a sandwich with cheese and jam, preferrably strawberry jam, but other flavours are nice too.

Who is up for trying it an telling me if I am really weird or you like it too?

Also, what other weird food combinations are nice and should be tried?

Cheese and jam is good, as long as it's either a crumbly white (eg wenslydale) or a very strong cheddar. The cheese needs to be tangy.

Also good:
Cheese with fruitcake (almost any cheese)
Cheese on toast with a little crunchy peanut butter under the cheese (must be crunchy pb)
Pop the lid off a warmed mince pie, slip in a small piece of crumbly cheese (here comes the Wensleydale again, or white Stilton), lid back on, and nom.

Cheese with pretty much anything vegetarian!

And crunchy peanut butter (must be crunchy) goes with pretty much anything, too. Except celery. I don't get the vibe from PB&C.

Also try hummus with cold sliced meats.

And bresaola wrapped around mini cucumbers.

FastnetLundyRockall · 28/08/2022 08:58

Cheese with honey, especially something like a baked camembert

Babdoc · 28/08/2022 09:00

Wensleydale on wholemeal bread with either apple or marmalade is delicious.
And Wensleydale on Yorkshire brack, or with a slice of Dundee cake, likewise.
I prefer all other cheeses on their own, but that combo just works so well.

YANBU
my first reaction to this when my housemate suggested it when I was a student 15yrs ago was something that should not be repeated 🤬🤬🤬 I was disgusted!
But OMG - I was so wrong..... love it 🙌🏻🙌🏻😍

LetsGoNorth · 28/08/2022 09:02

Cheese and chocolate spread is lovely - I wouldn't have it in a sandwich but on crackers.

I think it's Philadelphia (sp) that have a chocolate/cheese spread which is very nice (or they used to anyway).

LittleBirdBlu · 28/08/2022 09:04

Cheese and chilli jam is amazing!! Better on crackers, but still very good in a sandwich too.

mrsfeatherbottom · 28/08/2022 09:06

Raspberry jam and cheddar cheese are great together!

Also, as a PP said, Wensleydale cheese with Christmas cake is amazing!

tellyiscrap · 28/08/2022 09:06

I love it .. going to show my age here 😂

Many years ago Kwiksave used to sell a jar of apple and strawberry jam for about 30p

It was heavenly with cheese on a nice sandwich
Never found apple and strawberry again

startfresh · 28/08/2022 09:07

Works on crackers as well. It's a usual combination for us.

You have brie and cranberry jam, or Camembert and cranberry. Of course cheddar and strawberry jam is lovely.

Although I don't think I could have it grated. Has to be sliced.

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/08/2022 09:08

No!!!!!

But a taste sensation is crumpet, butter, marmite, Philly cheese.. the mix of rich, salty, cold and hot is an epic. If I was having it on toast I might add cherry tomatoes.

God no, I don’t like any combination of sweet and savoury together. Things that are puddings or toast should stay there!

The absolute exception is dipping McDonald’s fries in chocolate milkshake.

I didnt realise people actually did that. Absolutely vile.

crochetmeahat · 28/08/2022 09:10

Oh it never occurred to me to put jam on a cheese scone until now I'm going to try it later

drunktrifle · 28/08/2022 09:10

My dad used to make me a buttered digestive biscuit with a slice of cheese and a blob of jam on as a snack when I was little. He also gave me strawberry and cream cheese toasties.

Cheese and banana toastie- try it before you deny it

Confused
steakzilla · 28/08/2022 09:12

OP I can understand the appeal of cheese and jam, i dont know if I would try it.
I do like pineapple on pizza very occasionally so I guess that is fruit and cheese, so I may like it.

ShirleyJackson · 28/08/2022 09:16

Yes to cheese and jam.

Also try crisp apples dipped in humous.
Apples spread with crunchy peanut butter.

ShirleyJackson · 28/08/2022 09:17

And peanut butter on porridge. Even better with a few raspberries or blueberries.

BeyondMyWits · 28/08/2022 09:17

When I was growing up we were poor (scrape the mould off the bread before you toast it poor)⁹. A staple Sunday night tea was a cheese and jam sandwich. One push over the grater for the cheese and a smear of "mixed fruit" jam.

So no, won't be returning to those days if I can avoid them.

marmitecake · 28/08/2022 09:18

May I counter your AIBU with asking whether you've tried Brie and lemon curd? It's like eating a cheesecake..Smile

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 28/08/2022 09:20

I love a bit of cheese and jam on a croissant

carefullycourageous · 28/08/2022 09:21

Sweet and savoury is a winning combination, I often have cheese with jam (fig jam or gooseberry jam is best IMO).

ThisisCollie2022 · 28/08/2022 09:22

My ex college sat there eating a cheese and jam sandwich last year. I was almost barfing at the thought.

Anyway, I got home and told DH. He was intrigued. And my colleague was well known for being THE best guy, most well rounded, intelligent, cheeky and reliable person I've ever worked with.

So, I decided if he liked it then maybe it'll be a good one. Tried it and tasted just like Wensleydale and Cranberry cheese.

Or like cheddar with a sweet chilli onion style chutney.

Wasn't bad at all. :)

ShirleyJackson · 28/08/2022 09:22

Ooh mixed fruit jam! That takes me back. Can you still get that?

maddy68 · 28/08/2022 09:24

My dad was Scottish. Its delicious. He used to call it a "jelly piece"

PolkaDotMankini · 28/08/2022 09:30

Stilton glued to a cracker with chilli jam is delicious.
