To not understand this Disney obsession?

Adults who love regularly holidaying at Disneyland/Disneyworld and love buying all the Disney merch... what is it you love about it?

OP posts:
Mumofsend · 27/08/2022 21:37

I enjoy taking my children to Disney, because for complex reasons there was a defining moment when I first took them. I find it odd to go without kids. It's special to me due to the kids and that core memory rather than disney itself.

ChagSameachDoreen · 27/08/2022 21:37

Overgrown children! It's pathetic.

takeasadsongandmakeitbetter · 27/08/2022 21:40

How awful are some people!! It's a little bit of magic in a pretty miserable world. Ok so I wouldn't buy Disney merch but definitely wouldn't feel the need to write or comment negatively on a bitchy post about people who do!

I love a trip to Disneyland, can't wait to take my kids when they are a bit older.

I find it nostalgic and comforting and a little bit of magic!

Lots of people love theme parks, Disney is just another theme park surely?

Winterfellismyhome · 27/08/2022 21:42

Not a Disney adult btw

To not understand this Disney obsession?
Afterfire · 27/08/2022 21:42

Wow people are miserable 😳

For the record I’m not into Disney. At all. But it’s just a bit of harmless fun isn’t it? Not sure why people have to be so judgey about it.

Mybeautifulfriend22 · 27/08/2022 21:42

I’m not interested in Disney world etc but know adults that go.

is it really so difficult to understand people like different things? Have different interests etc? I couldn’t think of anything worse than sit round a pool for two weeks but I don’t judge people for doing it. Just not my thing.

SunshineClouds1 · 27/08/2022 21:44

Not into the merch but I love Disneyland!
As pp it's literally a theme park.

We all have our own taste and interest.

Don't be a fun sponge

Gonewiththewindbeforelong · 27/08/2022 21:45

I get what you’re saying and I felt like this before I went. I first went as an adult with DH on holiday (way back when he was DP). I was well in my 30’s and didn’t know what to expect!

I really enjoyed it. Certainly an experience, if an expensive one, but it is quite magical and fun. An escapism if you like. Yes, some people go to extremes with effort and really get into it, and that’s fine! I bought Minnie ears for 30 dollars which I’m still bitter about the price of all these years later, lol. My point is you do get quite into it. It is a nice place, with a nice vibe and it did bring back nostalgia. I guess some people like that and the ‘Disney Magic’. I look a bit differently after seeing it myself. Each to their own!

CaptainBarbosa · 27/08/2022 21:47

Oh gosh I took 8 year old DS to Disneyland we went a bit bonkers and suddenly became pin collectors 😂😂 no idea what I'm now supposed to do with like 200 euro worth of Disney pins, but.....I enjoyed it it was fun.

I'm not sure I'd do it as a solo adult, not my thing, but each to their own I say.

Annieisalright · 27/08/2022 21:49

Because it's fun and a nice holiday

I've gone to Disney world every year since the age of 18 with DH. We now go every year with our kids (excluding 2020/2021)

SizzlerFizzler · 27/08/2022 21:49

It wouldn't be for me but I can see why people are into it. It spans so much. It's films, it's music, it's cartoons, it's theme parks where literally thousands of other people share your passion. Same sort of thing as with comic-cons I suppose. You can immerse yourself in the fandom.

Floofboopsnootandbork · 27/08/2022 21:49

Different people enjoy different things, why is that so hard for so many people to grasp? And someone liking something you don’t doesn’t make them pathetic overgrown children.

Hamster1111 · 27/08/2022 21:49

We went for the first time recently and I was surprised at how seriously some of the adults there took it, with the merch and the badges etc but it is such a unique place, with no judgement (well not openly) i think people can just indulge their inner child and fandom with likeminded people. It's not something I did whilst I was there but I can see why people do, it's a nice bit of escapism if that's your thing!

I bet you're fun irl

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 27/08/2022 21:50

I adore Disney.
For me it fits in with my love of anything theatrical and musicals.
I used to be a Disney Princess to hire for kids shows and tried so hard to get on the Disney cruise liners but never got to audition.

I don't know what there is to not like?

sheepandcaravan · 27/08/2022 21:51

But op could you not say this about many things.

There is so many bad, evil things adults do in this world.

Anything good that gives enjoyment shouldn't be a concern.

YouMadeABear · 27/08/2022 21:51

I'm just really emotionally immature tbh and I have a lot of positive memories attached to Disney. My teen/YA years were tough and life now is good but stressful. I suppose I seek comfort in nostalgia rather than drugs. I'm not bothered if some people find that pathetic.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 27/08/2022 21:52

Though I don't like Disneyland but that's mainly because there are too many mardy adults who expect no queues, whinge it's too hot, don't like the prices and whatever else they can kick off about.

Figgygal · 27/08/2022 21:53

Its the harry potter fans youve got to really look out for 😃

Considering there are many Disneyland's out there your experience can't be universal across them all

Plus Disney world of course

123Callie · 27/08/2022 21:56

I don’t feel any emotion towards Disney whatsoever. I didn’t watch the films as a child so I don’t even get nostalgia. The whole thing is cute on the outside but the hard nosed business of it is always showing through.

I’ve been to Disney twice as a young adult and it was worth going to see what it was all about but I have no plans to take my kids. Not that it would be fun for them anyway going with their cynical and magic free Mum.

Same but I'm autistic.
I think that Disney is wonderful.
Its been a constant in my life and I'd take every holiday at Disneyland if I could.

It would never occur to me to ridicule another person about their hobbies or their likes and dislikes. It's totally harmless.

DinosaurDuvet · 27/08/2022 21:56

I’m an Disney adult - nostalgia & escapism from the real world. It’s just a little piece of magic

Sone people like golf (I’d rather watch paint dry), some people like gardening. If we were all the same the world would be pretty boring

flawlessfilter · 27/08/2022 21:58

I’m saying this as a non Disney adult - I don’t understand posts like this. Are people that ignorant they can’t grasp the concept that all people are different and find joy through various ways?

Potholing looks like the worst thing in the world to me but I’m not out there questioning why others like it. I just live my life and let other enjoy something that makes them happy without demanding they validate their enjoyment to me.

Haha true! I just can’t get into the whole Harry Potter thing
