Hi
I am 44 years old. Mother to one Dd..I am a size 8, 5'2" and currently have 34a/b Cup size
I'm considering going to a D Cup size.
I'm interested to hear from people's.expeiences. of having a breast augmentation.

In particular what was recovery like
What implants did you have
Do.you wish you'd gone larger/smaller/never had it done.
How do you field them now?

My appointment is late September with a view to having them done before Christmas.

Thanks everyone x

44, 5'1 and size 8. Had 330cc 16 months ago. Didn't change my life but most things fit better. Some days I wish I'd gone bigger but fear I'd have a matronly shelf bosom if I did.

IwillrunIwillfly · 26/08/2022 17:58

If you're a size 8 clothes then a 34 inch band is almost certainly too big for you, and so the cups will be too small. If you have a look at boob or Bust on Facebook they have a measuring guide, you're probably more likely to be around a 28d (which is still a small size, not all d cups are the same, they vary with the band size).

As for whether you get a boob job, I cant comment other than to wish you luck and I hope it all goes well!

GarlandsinGreece · 26/08/2022 18:03

Just do your research. I don’t have a boob job, but a couple of friends had explants recently, due to developing breast implant illness.

Josette77 · 26/08/2022 18:11

My friend with breast implants all got very ill and they had them removed. I wouldn't. It's a big risk and you have a dd to take care of.

chilliesandspices · 26/08/2022 18:16

I had mine done in 2011. I couldn't even fill an A cup. My boobs were just nipples, no actual boob. I had 350cc round textured implants under my muscles with the incision through my nipples. I was in quite a bit of pain for the first few days but nothing unbearable. It was about 2 weeks before I could raise my arms above my shoulders. My partner at the time had to help me get dressed for the first few days. The strangest part was when I first took my sports bra off for a shower about 4 days after surgery. It felt like they were going to fall off and I had to hold them. If I had incisions underneath I would have had a full blown panic! They look brilliant now, like the perfect perky teardrop shape. I don't regret them at all but with hindsight I would have been happy with 300c too because clothes my size are a little tight on the chest. I'm 5ft2 and a size 10. That being said, nobody knows I've had a boob job unless I tell them because they aren't obviously large.

Etinoxaurus · 26/08/2022 18:18

I’m similar build to you but 10 years older. I’m very very pleased to have the boobs I do particularly as I age, leave them alone! Although as pp have said you’re almost certainly wearing the wrong size.

What a waste of money and the skill and time of all the medical staff.

17in · 26/08/2022 18:23

I had mine done early 20s, I was 32a now a 32e.. definitely don't regret having them and they haven't done to badly so far (4 kids and nearly 10 years later) they don't look massive though.. it bloody hurt though! The pain was awful for 2 weeks.. like lava pouring down my chest every time I sat up.. I don't have any feeling in my boobs now though. I can feel my implants too which is a bit weird. Don't regret them though.

Paintsplat · 26/08/2022 18:24

I didn't have any opinions either way on them, but a good friend had them done years ago (she's late thirties, had them done in her early twenties) and had quite serious health problems due to the impacts leaking. It took her a long time to find someone who would remove them, and it was really stressful for her living with them once she'd decided she had wanted them removed. She has a number of auto immune conditions and she blames the implants for them. I have no idea whether they are the cause or not but I can see how it would make her feel.

I don't know whether the technology has changed since her op was done, as to whether that's still a relevant concern.

PrettyIndigo · 26/08/2022 18:28

Google BII, it's very real. My friend had hers taken out, and now her breasts are not only small again, but saggy due to the implants stretching out the skin, and she can't afford an uplift. She wishes so badly she had left them alone!

Sunnyqueen · 26/08/2022 18:28

I really would love one but honestly I'm too scared of dying from anaesthetic to go under the knife for surgery that's not life saving or very medically necessary...i just think my kids would think wow mummy died for the sake of a cosmetic surgery... I am an anxious person though. Plus if I had the money I'd probably rather spend on a once in a lifetime holiday for me and the kids. But I guess if you've got the money and don't have the anxiety then go for it, I'd never judge anyone for having one despite what I've just said. It's your life and your money so do what feels right.

Luredbyapomegranate · 26/08/2022 18:31

Ooh I’d think about that OP, it’s not as if you have no boobs at all like the PP above. You don’t want to end up with numb nipples. Do do the bra measuring thing.

I followed someone with a big following and she did a Q&A and she wished she’d gone bigger and said many others who messaged her felt the same way.

Clearly a common thing for most women who undergo the surgery so I wouldn’t worry.

EatingPeanutButterWithASpoon · 26/08/2022 18:37

I had a boob job in 2007. Loved the look, unfortunately I had pip implants inserted and the court case is still ongoing (industrial instead of medical grade silicone). I was a size 8, went from a large B to DD and had 250cc put in. I changed them in 2017 because of the pips and still loved the look. I'm now breastfeeding my second and dont like them anymore. They're large and have gone south! I'm going to be 40 and next time I can change them I want to be done with them now, out and uplift. What I'm reading about breast implant illness on the Facebook support group is horrifying and I'm counting myself very lucky I'm not suffering these symptoms.
I would recommend very thoroughly doing your research and being aware of breast implant illness first.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 26/08/2022 18:37

I had no boobs and had mine done when I was 27 I think.

I had them re-done at 39 when I felt a lump and my implant had gone a bit hard.

My implants had taken a lot of knocks falling off horses I think 😂

No regrets. I went from a 32 barely A to a 32C.

Both times it wasn't painful and recovery was uncomplicated.

erikbloodaxe · 26/08/2022 18:40

I had mine done 17 years ago. From an A to a D cup. Recovery was fine. I've never had any problems BUT my god I wish I'd never had them done. As you age (I'm mid 50's) they just make you look fat, matronly and frumpy. Forget buying dresses, they won't fit. I just wish I'd had the confidence back then to say I am enough as I am.
I'll have them out at some point and I cannot wait.
You are enough exactly as you are.

What a strange comment. Waste of money? Is the OP borrowing money from you? And why would it be a waste of time and skill for the medical staff? That is literally what they are there to do...to perform breast augmentations as that is what they will be trained to do😄

I wouldn't think the medical staff who will be getting paid well for it would agree

BeanieTeen · 26/08/2022 19:24

This is going to sound a bit ageist I guess but here goes… I could understand going for a bit of a lift but at 44 is going from small to massive boobs really a good investment? Are you really going to be flaunting your assets like a 20 something in the years to come? It sounds like the equivalent of a middle aged man buying an over expensive car due to mid-life crisis.

For me (having had them at 42) it's a revelation to be able to wear clothes and not worry about bra straps/underwear. I don't go topless or flaunt them, I just didn't love my deflated post-children breasts. I actually enjoy my figure for the first time in a long time

My mum developed massive bosoms when she hit menopause. If I do the same I won't think twice about having them removed and an uplift

RunningSME · 26/08/2022 20:35

I had mine done 10 years ago after six years they capsulised. I went in for a mammogram to look at the damage and there was a grey patch underneath one of the implants which was potentially cancerous.

I had them removed this year possibly one of the most excruciatingly painful experiences I’ve ever been through, the recovery simply awful. The plan was to give them a year to recover and then try again with a different brand of implants but the whole experience was so terrible I’ll be leaving them as they are and frankly they’re nowhere near as bad as they were in my mind the first time round.

I can second the matronly look as well, after 10 years they had dropped and looked far worse the normal dropped boobs and yeah they just made me look incredibly fat because none of my tops would do up or jackets

Allgoodthings1 · 26/08/2022 20:41

I really planned to have mine done but didn’t in the end up and a girl I was friendly with at the time did. Hers look very false and she goes out of her way to have them on show all the time now, it kind of makes me cringe and has really put me off them 🤦🏼‍♀️ I think bizarrely having no boobs has come back into fashion, you rarely see women with huge boobs modeling clothes etc now whereas it used to be that body shape was constantly promoted. Each to their own I say. If it will make you happier and you can afford it, go for it

therestissilence · 26/08/2022 20:50

I'm seven years younger than you and would love to have mine removed, if only that were possible. They've been useful in terms of feeding babies but now they give me backache and make clothes-buying really difficult. With respect, why do you want to buy yourself backache? And why do want to do this at 44? Just for clothes?

ittakes2 · 26/08/2022 21:04

I had mine done at 18 - also nothing up top and I was happy with 200ml which I think of is unheard of these days. Also did under the nipple which I do not recommend as my feeling never came back.
I had to have 3-4 breast surgeries before I was 30 to fix encapsulation. Had them out for good at 38 and so glad I did as nice to not feel you are lying on plastic.
one thing I can’t see anyone else mention is they need to be replaced ever 15 years. So have it now and you’ll be in surgery at 60 having them redone or out - and then again at 75. I was not told that when I had it done.
