I'm considering going to a D Cup size.
I'm interested to hear from people's.expeiences. of having a breast augmentation.

In particular what was recovery like
What implants did you have
Do.you wish you'd gone larger/smaller/never had it done.
How do you field them now?

My appointment is late September with a view to having them done before Christmas.

Thanks everyone x

Bloody hell, she’s 44 not 90!

To read some of the posts on here you’d wonder how anyone over 40 has the audacity to impose their perimenopausal body on the world by leaving the house.

PurdyLilThang · 27/08/2022 07:11

I don’t think women over 40/50/90/100! shouldn't enjoy looking good and take pride in their appearance.

I think it’s more that by mid 40s you start to see sense. I’m 45, so thinking from my own perspective. What are the risks? Who are you really doing it for? What’s wrong with small breasts anyway?! Isn’t it better to be fit and healthy and embrace who you are?

SundayTeatime · 27/08/2022 07:12

My situation is different as I had my breasts removed due to a mastectomy, and I literally have no breasts at all. I’m youngish, fashionable, I care about clothes and how I look. Implant surgery would be free for me on the NHS, but I decided not to. They need to be replaced every so often, and there’s the risk of breast implant illness, infection, leakage and capsular contraction. They can move, swing around, though perhaps that’s different if you already have your own breast tissue.

Or maybe see things ‘differently’ rather than ‘see sense’

I'm 44, size 8, 5 ft 5. I can never find bras to fit me as my boobs are too small. For years i wore badly fitting padded bras which gaped at the top of the cup and gave me that obvious 'padded bra' silhouette. I tried the special Mumsnet way of measuring and it didn't make any difference. Still nothing fit! I've given up and wear bralettes from Hollister in a size small. What a difference! I love my boobs now I'm not struggling with badly fitting underwear. And I'm loads more comfortable. I'd love cosmetic surgery for a number of issues, but breast enlargement isn't on my list at all.

This is going to sound a bit ageist I guess but here goes… I could understand going for a bit of a lift but at 44 is going from small to massive boobs really a good investment? Are you really going to be flaunting your assets like a 20 something in the years to come? It sounds like the equivalent of a middle aged man buying an over expensive car due to mid-life crisis.

I'm 42, I'll be having them done as soon as I'm able. I've always wanted it and always had to put other things first. My time will come and at 42 there's hopefully still half my life left so why not be how I want to be for it?
Giving up at 44 because you're not 20 something would be awful

CambsAlways · 27/08/2022 08:45

I think your bust size sounds great to me, petite frame and neat, but obviously you aren’t happy with the size, I personally wouldn’t do it, I’ve heard of a few people that are desperate to get them removed,

ShirleyJackson · 27/08/2022 08:51

Embrace your membership of the Itty Bitty Titty Comittee, OP.

It’s great. They stay pert, everything fits, and you can go without a bra in the summer.

Hibye23289 · 27/08/2022 08:57

If it's what you want go for it! I had mine done 12 years ago aged 21, went from a 32a to a DD, the implant size was 300cc not very big due to not having enough boob to fit a larger implant in plus of it's too big you could get stretchmarks. 12 years on and 2 children later mine look great! My boobs look natural after having kids but they are not sagging, they are really good! I went with Transform. The pain wasn't the worst in the world, I was back to being cabin crew after 10 days.

zurala · 27/08/2022 09:02

Had mine done 20 years ago. Still love them. Went from flat to D cup. Have had no issues with them at all. They look really natural and are in proportion with my big hips. It really helped my confidence and self esteem. People used to make comments about my flat chest.

Acornacorn · 27/08/2022 09:04

I’m having implants later this year. Having spent my entire adult life with zero breasts I am really excited about having breasts for the first time. I’m not going big: expect I’ll just end up as a C cup.
I’m actually the most body confident I’ve ever been now I’m late 30s and had my kids. But I want to feel feminine. I think people with breasts find it hard to understand why I am taking on the risks and expenses.

sekactao · 27/08/2022 09:09

Many people seem to, but you don’t have to go from small to massive! A “D” cup isn’t even big if you have a small back size.

I had mine done maybe ten years ago now. No problems at all, so far.

I went over the muscle and so had no pain to speak of. I was back to normal a couple of days after the op. I didn’t need the paracetamol they offered me.

I didn’t go too big and as I already had some breast tissue they look natural. I’m not sure how big you would need to go to give yourself backache. It’s not been a problem for me. Because I had been wearing a heavily padded bra for years beforehand, nobody even noticed the change post op. Which suited me.

ChagSameachDoreen · 27/08/2022 09:19

No way. Implants are so chavvy.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 27/08/2022 10:28

@ChagSameachDoreen why is wanting to feel happy and comfortable with your body chavvy?

I had a waist and hips but never grew any boobs. I was teased terribly at school.

I didn't have huge implants. The surgeon and I discussed I couldn't as my frame is too small. I don't look like Katie Price, just like someone who has boobs as opposed to a flat chest.

I had them under the muscle so they look less fake.

How does that make me a chav? What a stuck up, snobby attitude 🙄

balalake · 27/08/2022 10:30

I have not had one. However the one woman I know (for certain) had one, led to complications, and perhaps as a result feel that this type of surgery should only be as something following disease or accident.

MermaidEyes · 27/08/2022 10:51

Re some of the comments about menopause, I agree you need to consider that. Mine have gone up a cup size since starting peri-menopause. I have a friend who's always been very slim, she hit 50 and her boobs practically tripled overnight. She ended up having to get rid of a lot of her pretty dresses and tops because they just wouldn't fasten anymore.

KvotheTheBloodless · 27/08/2022 11:01

I think the key thing is only doing it if you know you can afford to have them fixed if you get BII, and when the implants need replacing (they don't last forever, only 10-20 years).

The other thing to bear in mind is that they can look a bit matronly as you age, so you might look better naked but will look older/fatter in clothes.

entropynow · 27/08/2022 11:02

Straw argument if ever I heard one but crack on deliberately misreading for maximum outrage, do.
OP, waste of money. Your self esteem should not hang (pun intended) on your tits.

sekactao · 27/08/2022 11:07

I had them under the muscle so they look less fake.

That’s interesting as my primary concern was that they had to look as natural as possible and my surgeon recommended over the muscle. It may depend on how much breast tissue you have to start with. I wasn’t totally flat chested.

As I said before, nobody appears to have noticed in ten years. I have worn bikinis in front of my sisters… and they definitely would have said something.

PotatoHammock · 27/08/2022 11:08

Honestly, I wouldn't. I only know 4 people irl who have had boob jobs, and 1 had minor complications involving more surgery, and another had major complications from the anaesthetic and ended up with life threatening blood clots on her lungs.

They never look "natural" and you'll have scarring, so they'll always look better in underwear than naked. So just buy padded underwear!

LesOliviers · 27/08/2022 11:14

IwillrunIwillfly · 26/08/2022 17:58

If you're a size 8 clothes then a 34 inch band is almost certainly too big for you, and so the cups will be too small. If you have a look at boob or Bust on Facebook they have a measuring guide, you're probably more likely to be around a 28d (which is still a small size, not all d cups are the same, they vary with the band size).

As for whether you get a boob job, I cant comment other than to wish you luck and I hope it all goes well!

I was going to comment the same regarding your current bra size. I'm a size 12 and I'm a 30-32 band depending on cup size. You're not wearing the right bra size for starters which hugely affects how your breasts look.

MidnightMeltdown · 27/08/2022 11:16

I wouldn't if I were you. I'm 32D naturally so I can't comment on the procedure, but I often think that clothes look better if they're smaller.

It's not fashionable to have cleavage on display anymore, and tops that look pretty and feminine on other women can easily look cheap when you've got unwanted cleavage on display. I feel like I have to be a lot more careful about what I wear to avoid judgement.

If you're not planning on walking around flaunting your cleavage like a page 3 model then I don't see the point. I'm sure that you look great as you are.

Josette77 · 27/08/2022 11:20

I think it's o weird we talk about women's bodies as what's in fashion.

We objecty ourselves way too much.

sekactao · 27/08/2022 11:25

I must admit that fashion never entered my head when I made my decision. In any case, fashions come, go, and come back again.

MidnightMeltdown · 27/08/2022 11:48

I just mean that times have changed a lot since the days of push up bras and the 'Hello boys' type adverts of the 1990s.

I think we've moved on a lot from that and I hope that we won't be going back.
