To send my neighbour's parcel back and not give to them

So I’ve just had a parcel delivered from justfab. My neighbours name but my address and postcode. They’ve used the second line of the address to say “deliver to (their door number) it looks like they deliberately had it ordered to my number. Why would anyone do that?

This neighbour has lived near me for three years. All through lock downs. They’ve made it very clear they didn’t want to be neighbourly for example I wave if we pass each other etc. They make eye contact but ignore me. I pull over so we pass each other on the small road. They refuse to. Even if it means me reversing 20meters and they would have to reverse a couple of feet.

Aibu to just send it back to justfab?

I’d send it back & make sure the company know it is nothing to do with you. It’s been done on purpose and correcting an incorrect credit rating is a nightmare. My parents has it when a lodger ran up loads of debt at their (his) address. Was very difficult to get his debt unhooked from their name.

if they were pleasant neighbours/had made a mistake fair enough, but they sound like scammers of some sort - even if it is just getting an extra first time buyer discount

Salamamca · 29/08/2022 09:54

My neighbour did this. They’re never in when their parcels arrive and they always end up bringing them here. One time it was a massive selection of boxes that resembled a wardrobe or something that was stuck in my hallway for 2 days. She eventually came around to collect it but the next time she had something delivered, she actually put my address as the delivery address (with her name but my address). I was fuming and now refuse to take anything in for them.

cookiecreammmpie · 29/08/2022 10:03

I'd give it to them this time, seeing as you did accept it when it was delivered. Ask them about why it had your address down. And then after that don't accept any more.

CuriousMama · 29/08/2022 10:11

My neighbour did this. She'd opened a Very account in my name. She's in prison at the moment for a different thing. Much worse. Sadly she'll be back next door as rent is being paid. My friend is her landlord.
Be wary.

I wouldn't like this, I wouldn't want anything potentially bought on credit or subscription coming to my address, using your address to get a discount isn't acceptable.

I would contact the company inform them you haven't ordered anything and this person doesn't live at your address and ask them to arrange collection. It's essentially fraud.

RainbowToucan · 29/08/2022 10:31

The address thing is most likely a mistake but it’s flabbergasting that they’re using you as back-up parcel receiver when they don’t even acknowledge your existence.

Either keep it until they come looking for it then force them into a neighbourly chat or just send it back.

zingally · 29/08/2022 10:33

Keep it for yourself!

I did that once. Maybe 10 years ago I begrudgingly took in a parcel for a neighbour and watched the postie put a note through their door. And then the neighbour never came to collect it. I'm not your dogsbody, come and get it yourself. It sat in my hallway for about 5 months, then I opened it.

Needless to say, I became the proud owner of a very nice cocktail making set!

MrsMontyD · 29/08/2022 10:38

I don't get on with one set of neighbours but I do take in their parcels, but a parcel or letter sent to my address but not in my name I wouldn't pass on, I had too much trouble when my exH continued to use my address long after he left.

saleorbouy · 29/08/2022 10:45

Just drop a note in the door telling them there's a parcel at your address.
When they collect it ask them not to use you as the local PO box.

I’ve made this mistake before- put in my postcode
and clicked the address. Only once I’d paid I checked and realised my mistake. I couldn’t alter the address but I could add a note on to say to be delivered to my address. I get on well with my neighbours so I knocked on the door and let them know of my mistake. It might easily have been a mistake but since uoh two don’t seem to get on, she maybe didn’t want to bother you. I wouldn’t send the parcel back, I’d knock on her door, give it to her and just ask why your address is on it- don’t need to be rude about it just query it.

I've read several variations on this now and don't understand how this works. We always have same shipping as billing address (unless it's a gift for someone and sent to them) so why doesn't it show up as incorrect during security checks?

stopitstopitnow · 29/08/2022 11:09

Send it back with a "Not known at this address" notification.

KarmaStar · 29/08/2022 11:39

Your post isn't clear to me.if she or he had their own name and address on why not just give it to them?rude or not you have no authority to hang on to that parcel whilst deciding what to do with it.

Moltenpink · 29/08/2022 11:43

Surprised that so many posters would be chilled out about an account being opened at their address, I’d be really concerned and straight on the phone to justfab.

The ‘scam’ is that if OP now wanted to take advantage of justfab’s offer of £10 shoes, she probably wouldn’t be able to, because justfab would already have her address on file as having availed of the offer.

ginghamstarfish · 29/08/2022 15:54

If it does have your address I'd send it back (yes despite the inconvenience) and write 'not known at this address'.

It could be a scam. If she decides not to pay it'll be your address passed to debt collection, not hers.

Send it back and say you suspect fraud. Play dumb, that you don't know who she is. Make the company do the chasing.

So now the scam isn’t big enough for you? Why ask then?

@Trying20 I agree, just give the parcel. Why does everyone jump to the worst conclusions straight away.

HyggeandTea · 29/08/2022 17:41

My neighbour had a parcel in my name with their address because my sister got my house number wrong.
I'd just give it back.

Blossomtoes · 29/08/2022 17:49

why doesn't it show up as incorrect during security checks?

For the same reason that you can have a gift sent to another address. What’s the difference?

Kittycat37uk · 29/08/2022 21:29

Are you sure she's not using your address to get a credit account?I would check that coz u don't want to be getting any ccjs or anything because of your neighbour
