To send my neighbour's parcel back and not give to them

mummy203 · 26/08/2022 15:51

So I’ve just had a parcel delivered from justfab. My neighbours name but my address and postcode. They’ve used the second line of the address to say “deliver to (their door number) it looks like they deliberately had it ordered to my number. Why would anyone do that?

This neighbour has lived near me for three years. All through lock downs. They’ve made it very clear they didn’t want to be neighbourly for example I wave if we pass each other etc. They make eye contact but ignore me. I pull over so we pass each other on the small road. They refuse to. Even if it means me reversing 20meters and they would have to reverse a couple of feet.

Aibu to just send it back to justfab?

Usually a discount is based off a new account new email etc and has nothing to do with the actual home address. It could be a complete mistake, I'd just take it round or wait for them to come get it. Best not to jump to the worst conclusions.

No, they look at a number of things, including address. Otherwise it’s too easy, it takes 1 minute to set up a new email address, and the first time discount would be abused.

I’ve never used JustFab though, it looks like a scam to me.

baffledcoconut · 26/08/2022 19:04

Send it back. We’ve got some dickish neighbours who’ve pissed off every single other house in our little area. There is something peculiar to all the houses here that if you know about is VERY useful and makes life so much easier.

No one has told them. Ever. It’s an unwritten rule to never mention it amongst the whole area 😬

mellicauli · 26/08/2022 19:12

It's more effort to send it back than to take it over, ring their doorbell and dump it on their doorstep. Don't wait for them to answer.

Mumsnet never fails to make me grateful for my neighbours!

Maybe they just clicked the wrong number in the drop down list. I did this once.

My poor neighbour once took in a massive parcel (over a metre in each direction) which was something we'd returned months earlier. It must have been stuck in the courier's warehouse. We were refunded but it somehow made it's way back to us ..... while we were on holiday.... for a fortnight!

@mummy203

I'd take it in and not do anything with it until THEY come and ask for it - give it a couple of weeks then bin it

Good idea, this will also put them off doing it again

Blossomtoes · 26/08/2022 19:40

Mumsnet never fails to make me grateful for my neighbours!

Me too. Thank God for living next door to decent reasonable human beings - both sides too. I’m never moving.

SarahSissions · 26/08/2022 20:04

Just hand it over. I’ve had a parcel go walkabout because the retailer changed my address because they couldn’t find mine on their automated system. I doubt they’ve done it to spite you, but if you send it back you move the relationship from politely ignoring to openly hostile

bruce43mydog · 26/08/2022 20:06

Its no skin off your nose to just hand the parcel to neighbour when there back home. Life is difficult enough. Try and help out people where you can. They will remember and may repay the favour in future. You never know when you may need help sometime or other.

^They sound like utter dickheads. I would
never do them any favour.

Monsun · 26/08/2022 20:09

YABU - but only if you don't even give them a chance to explain. Just take the parcel round and ask. When you know, you can make decisions on how to move forward with this and future (parcel) issues. Problem solved.

I will never understand why people choose to spend their time and energy filling their heads with conspiracy theories with a bundle of what-ifs and/or second guessing why? Seriously, how many hours have you already wasted on this?

As someone else pointed out, given that you're not on friendly terms, they wouldn't have deliberately used your address.

And as for it being some kind of scam - it's hardly a good one since it's entirely traceable & provable!

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 26/08/2022 20:13

I had this happen. Parcel from ASOS. My address unfamiliar name. So could be a neighbour or could be someone from anywhere. We have a neighbour fb group but I didn’t use that. It’s a common scam. Whoever they were had set up an account and used my address. That account is now registered to my address and they could be up to anything. I got in touch with ASOS and arranged a return - which believe me is in itself a pain in the arse if you don’t have an account with them! In the meantime neighbour posted on grp - who’s got my parcel? With a pic of my very distinctive front door. I had to message it was me. I returned it. She retorted with a snotty ‘that was quick’. I wish I’d replied with a ‘you’re welcome’! It really pissed me off. As if I was in the wrong. Anyway - I was then too busy getting down to the fucking post office to quickly get the sodding thing off my hands!!
I will take in a correctly addressed parcel for any neighbour whether I like them or not. No way if they’ve used my address.

HannahSternDefoe · 26/08/2022 20:19

Don't just send the parcel back.

You need to contact the company and get them to cancel the account - it's fraudulent to use your address - and get proof of postage for the parcel when you do send it.

I had to do this when we bought this house. The previous owner set up an account and had stuff sent here. I contacted the company, closed the account and got proof of postage...3 months later the police knocked the door as I was being accused of fraud by the previous owner. Shock
Thank god I had a paper trail for the return.

Gagaandgag · 26/08/2022 20:25

Why don’t you go on just fab website and do a trial order up to putting addresses in and see if their address comes up on the dropdown? 😂

mummy203 · 26/08/2022 20:25

lll3333 · 26/08/2022 18:36

They sent it to yours because you'll be home to accept it & they're out?

I’m usually out, I was only home this afternoon because I’m ill. I’m wondering how often they’ve done this without me knowing. I’m going to send the parcel back 👍

Just write 'NOBODY OF THIS NAME AT THIS ADDRESS' and take it back to the post office.

If they have the audacity to knock and ask if you have it tell them what you did.

They are CFs of the highest order, especially as they won't give you the time of day!

It's obvious the dropdown didn't have their address so they used your's and added their's. The delivery company should have put it through their door. You should have refused to accept it. Since neither of those things happened, just knock on their door.
It's a pain in the backside if a website doesn't have your address. It's not their fault and not something they can easily fix.

SapphireSeptember · 26/08/2022 21:01

Oh lord, I had a parcel come yesterday for someone who doesn't live here. I don't even know who they are! (Previous tenant?) He must live locally though as he turned up five minutes later with the delivery driver. (And now I'm worried some random guy knows where I live. Not the delivery driver, he was pissed off with the random guy.)

TheFormidableMrsC · 26/08/2022 21:57

I've got amazing neighbours and as I am at home every day, I'm happy to take in their parcels. Previous neighbours were horrible cheeky fuckers of the highest order and without asking me, stuck a printed out note on their front door saying all their deliveries were to go to me at No x. The absolute sodding nerve. When an entire set of bedroom furniture ended up in my front room in various massive boxes, I said no. Everything from then on was turned away 🤷🏻‍♀️

You need to check your bank and credit score carefully now. That’s one of the most common scams going.

Never hand over a parcel delivered to you like that. They are usually mobile phones or iPads etc ordered fraudulently.

I hate to tell you but that's literally a text book scam.
They order something that has to be delivered to the given address for security reasons, wait for it to arrive, then come and knock on the door and pretend to have delivered by mistake or whatever and ask for it "back".
Never hand over anything that's been delivered already to someone you don't know personal, whether in error or not. Always get in touch with the sender

thatslow · 27/08/2022 08:42

Surely it will be more effort to send back. Just give it to them, the only people it really impacts by sending it back is you and the delivery company/company ordered from and with the rising costs of everything why put that on them.
