People laughing at my disabled son

My ds has physical and mental disabilities. We are currently on holiday and I've been feeling upset today as several people have imitated/mocked him (not to his face but laughing in couples behind his back). They have also done this in front of me knowing I'm his mother.

It's made my family feel uncomfortable and I've been thinking should I speak to the hotel about it? We have worked hard to have a nice hiday and didn't expect the guests to be like this.

My SIL took someone to court over someone mocking my DN. Absolutely disgusting behaviour that ignorant woman would be getting a hug of cold water chucked over her.

Good for your SIL ,about time it was taken more seriously

Hopefully the OP will be encouraged by the replies she’s had here to think about and practice something she could say the next time she meets with this sort of behavior. Not that she should have to but it’s either that or learning to be comfortable with ignoring it or getting upset every time it happens because it’s happened and you’re not happy with ignoring it.

I have a severely disabled child so can understand exactly what the Op ,s going through ,my 12 year old has severe non verbal autism with challenging behaviour and screams loudly and frequently ,but I don't think it's helpful for people who have no idea of the reality of the situation to post stupid suggestions.

Don’t let it put a downer on your holiday. They’re ignorant people who would be really embarrassed if they were caught doing this. Have a quiet word with the hotel staff and point out the individuals responsible. They may be able to seat you away from these people?

This post is absolutely heartbreaking 😢
Nothing to add but sending a huge virtual hug to your lovely DS xx

Ps. Personally I'd take a photo and plaster them on social media
Flowers

Just reading the updates and hope you are all enjoying your well earned holiday OP. The twats behaving in this way are just ignorant pondlife. I hope the hotel staff will have a serious word if you are able to identify them.

I work in an SEN school and we have many trips out to promote life skills such as supermarkets, parks, public transport, cafes and restaurants. I've witnessed behaviour similar, thankfully rarely and always adults. I perfected the resting bitch face death stare complete with raised eyebrow and screwed up nose to indicate my disgust. I've also given a mouthful to a snooty customer who was tutting and huffing as out wheelchair was blocking his access in the bread section. I spun round and loudly said a little patience goes a long way and he may find using his kind words more effective than the animal noises he was making. He turned beetroot, apologised and hid from us after that!
