Is there anything more repulsive than Boris Johnson pretending to give a shit about Ukraine?

Has he no shame?

And is there anyone stupid enough to fall for today's crass publicity stunt?

A lot of people on here seem to be overlooking (or unaware of) the fact that the Tory Party has been accepting dubious Russian donations (and make no mistake - all oligarchs money can be traced back to Putin) for decades.
Johnson attended the birthday party of a former KGB colonel the DAY AFTER being elected PM and later put the same man's son in the House of Lords.
MI6 have flagged another off the books meeting Johnson had with Russian top brass as a "risk to national security"

All of the above is on record. The man is a shameless grifter at best. A traitor to the UK and Ukraine at worst. Despicable

Absolutely - nothing can be taken at face value when dealing with a prolific liar.

Obviously the answer to your question is yes @coffeerevelsrule. And in the very first post too. 😂

Agreed. There are plenty of people still sufficiently deluded to imagine that Johnson actually cares about anything or anyone but himself.

Do you know more than the president and vice president of Ukraine? Both have said he's been their biggest supporter and advocate, so they obviously think he does give a shit.

Shame he doesn't give a shiny shit about so many other important things.

balalake · 24/08/2022 21:28

Mr Johnson's government has only half supported the people of Ukraine. Supported their military, but his government dragged their feet and made it unnecessarily difficult and slow for Ukrainians to come here for sanctuary.

I’ll get dd to chalk his name on a paving slab - maybe that’ll appeal to his ego and he can actually do something good and noteworthy for this country.

Keepingupappearance · 24/08/2022 20:55

@badbaduncle in what way? I’ve always been confused about Boris and the Tory’s courting Russians but then going so hardcore about Ukraine.

I have not the least doubt that it’s. Or because of personal ethics. But I’m confused about what his interests are??

I agree. I bet it’s a tangled mess of dishonesty and lies. Future generations should be entertained by it though when it comes out.

MarshaMelrose · 24/08/2022 21:36

StoneofDestiny · 24/08/2022 21:00

We all care about Ukraine.
However, I'm certain his care is coupled and driven with a desire to make a name for himself as a 'statesman', a reputation he could not get any other way.

You can't know that but let's say he only supported them for his own nefarious reasons, what does it matter? If he did the right thing.

You have no idea of anyone's motivations because you can't see into their heads. You have no idea if a surgeon who operates on you very successfully did it because he loves mankind or he has an eye on an award which will get him more money. What does it matter as long as he did a good job on your operation?

bellinisurge · 24/08/2022 21:37

@VeniVidiWeeWee President Zelensky quite rightly is doing anything to keep Ukraine in the headlines. He's got more important things to worry about than the internal politics of another country.
Doesn't mean I have any increased respect for our oaf of a PM.

Then get the op to change the title to her thread.

He's done a good job in Ukraine.

coffeerevelsrule · 24/08/2022 21:51

His support for Ukraine, in terms of military aid etc, may well be laudable, but my thread refers to his visit today. There was no need to make the visit other than it being a PR stunt. He could give pledge the aid/military support (and it's very easy to pledge stuff when you know you are not going to be the one to deliver...) without going over there.

It is utterly shameless the way he goes over there for a photo opp. Things aren't exactly great here (we're not at war, I know) yet he's been on holiday throughout the summer, despite us being told he had to remain in post after the NC vote, just to then do absolutely nothing. He will be dividing his time between N10 and Chequers now apparently. What a joke.

He's trying to argue that the power price hikes are exclusively to do with Ukraine. That's bollocks.

People wanted him gone as PM. His party asked him to stay on til a replacement had been elected whilst at the same not making any decisions. That's what he's doing.
He's gone to Ukraine at their invitation because they wanted to show their gratitude. I don't blame him for going. It must be nice to escape the moaning for a while. I don't understand why you think his actions of support have been laudable and then you go off using vile language accusing him of not caring. He either did a good job or he didn't. And you seem to agree with Ukraine president that he did.

Blossomtoes · 24/08/2022 22:13

Did they? It looked like his decision to me. So he could play soldiers for two months.

MarshaMelrose · 24/08/2022 22:16

But you're not really a fair judge, are you?

coffeerevelsrule · 24/08/2022 22:18

He's been on holiday for the entire summer!!

As fair as you 🤷‍♀️

No. Because I have criticised him over things he's done. I just don't think he deserves criticism over this.
All you do is be nasty. Play soldiers. 🙄

Clearly not or he wouldn't be in Ukraine.

Blossomtoes · 24/08/2022 22:26

What else do you call his series of photo calls this summer? He’s been in and out of a flak jacket every week. He’s definitely played soldiers. And he wouldn’t have gone anywhere near Ukraine this week if there hadn’t been yet another photo opp and a bloody great ego massage in it for him.

I'm sure he'll find some further excuse to raid the dressing up box before he leaves.

No one calls into Ukraine for a random catch up over tea and cake. The president might be a bit too busy for that. 🙄
But when the he's specifically invited by the president, why wouldn't he go?

Blossomtoes · 24/08/2022 22:38

The president wasn’t too busy to arrange a commemorative flagstone for him. Or have a medal award ceremony. What useful purpose did Johnson’s visit have? He’s done nothing of any value since he resigned, it’s all been bread and circuses.

Thought this thread got pulled ?

Judging by the evidence of Johnson and his behaviour, I'm making an informed judgement - as history will. He does nothing that does not draw attention to himself. He is trying to sculpt a legacy for himself - nothing more than that.
